Current regulations Entry from a risk area Depending on how your country of origin is classified by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), you must be tested before entry and / or stay immediately after entry for a few days in self-isolation / quarantine. Health Care System State Health Insurance Private Health Insurance Participants of the DSH-Course Degree students and students over 30 years old Everyone MUST have health insurance. You can choose your insurance company yourself. Especially if you take a private health insurance: please check if everything important is covered! Liablility Insurance and Contents Insurance If your hurt someone or break something it can become very expensive in Germany: This is why a liability insurance is advisable. Registration in Siegen Within 2 weeks of your arrival, you have to register your new address at the responsible Local City Office (Rathaus/ Bürgerbüro) Please bring the following Passport „Wohnungsgeberbestätigung“ (form that has to be filled in by your landlord) https://www.siegen.de/fileadmin/cms/olsformulare/WohnungsgeberbestaetigungEinzugInclSpeichern.pdf At this time, you can only enter City Hall with an appointment. Registration in Siegen Please note: If you can only register after the 2 weeks because you were either in quarantine or because the appointment was not made earlier, this is no problem!!! If there are any problems with opening an account at a bank because you have not yet registered with the City, please explain the situation. Visa and Residence Permit This applies to students who are not an EU- or EEA-citizen (European Union or European Economic Area): You have to apply for a residence permit. Please ask for an appointment at the Foreigner‘s Registration Office (Ausländerbehörde) before your visa expires. Please remember to ask for extension in time. International Student Affairs
Visa and Residence Permit According to the Foreigners‘ Registration Office, your studies have to be completed within a specific time frame (usually standard period of study +50%) Bachelor: 6 Semester + 3 Semester 9 Semester Master: 4 or 5 Semester + 2 Semester 6-7 Semester This means: 20 credit points per semester! If your studies happen to take longer let the Foreigners‘ Registraiton Office know ahead of time so problems can be avoided! If you want to change your course of studies, you are only allowed to do so during the 1st-3rd semester. In any case, you should talk to the Foreigners‘ Registration Office before!! Visa and Residence Permit You can get the extension as well as further information at the Foreigners‘ Registration Office. Tips: Please always stay polite and honest!! If you face any problems, feel free to contact us (ISA) -> we‘ll do our very best to help you! If you get a letter from the Foreigners‘ Registration Office (or other) that you do not understand, please come to us and ask for help. Do not ignore letters from any authorities! Finances Please plan your finances early on since you do not get any financial support from the ISA, the University or the city! Job Placement Service If you need help planning your finances (Jobvermittlung) please turn to us! Rundfunkbeitrag The German Rundfunkbeitrag is an obligation for all citizens of full age. It funds radio and television (even if you do not have a TV or Radio). ONE flat= ONE Rundfunkbeitrag (contribution) 17,50 € Each (shared) flat/ appartment has to pay only once. If more than one person live in this flat/ appartment, only one person transfers money and all the others have to transfer their part to the paying person. Important: everyone has to register! Semester ticket What else should you know? the ticket … allows you to travel entire NRW within the local public transportations (Bus, S- , U- and Straßenbahn, like a tram, RB and RE trains) no IC or ICE!! is only valid in combination with an official ID (incl. photo). children up to 6 years and strollers can be brought for free. you can not take people with on your ticket. … is (fully) valid from semester start but you can already use it in Siegen area. Email account and WIFI Activation via unisono Activation of student‘s email account is very important all important information will be sent to this address! Please always use this account when communicating within university (with professors, examination office, service teams, ISA, etc.), so that you can be identified by them. Accommodation Please take note of your rental contract – German landlords are quite strict with it, e.g.: Cancellation period Normally there is a cancellation period of 3 months, possible to the end of a month. If e.g. you cancel the contract on June 14th, you have to rent the appartment till end of september (5th may –> move out date 31st July; 6th may move out date 31st August). If you live in a shared flat (WG), please talk to your flatmates and ask for details. Deposit Normally you have to pay a deposit when renting a room/ flat (like 2 monthly rents. When you move out, you only get the (whole) amount back if you leave the apartment clean and tidy. It may take some months until you get back the deposit. International Student Affairs
Accommodation Behaviour There are also other students who need an accomodation in the future. So please stay friendly towards the landlord and flatmates and keep your place tidy in order to keep a good impression. International Student Affairs

Bottle deposit if you buy drinks in glass, plastic bottles or in cans, most of the time you have to pay deposit which is between 8 and 25 cent. As soon as you bring back the empty bottles/ cants to the supermarket, you‘ll get back the money. so do not just throw them into the waste! International Student Affairs
