It will examine the different traits of entrepreneurs, such as where they get their ideas and how to be alert to opportunities; how to leverage resources; what success looks like, idea generation and implementation. This free workshop is recommended to individuals thinking about progressing to the 10 week Start Your Own Business course. Participants should have a basic knowledge of bookkeeping. Participants should also be familiar with Excel. Participants will be shown how to prepare Purchases Book, Cash Book, Sales and Cheques Journal. They are also given a template showing them how to calculate tax, PRSI and USC on a monthly basis which will assist with tax planning. It is not necessary to bring a laptop to this training. ThurSdAy 14 FEBruAry 9.30AM - 4.30PM Horse & Jockey Hotel, Thurles costing and Pricing- Getting the right Price €30 This course aims to provide participants with an understanding of calculating costs and actual price for their product/service to enable profitable returns. The workshop will enable participants to calculate their breakeven sales volume and an appreciation of the factors they need to consider when setting prices. ThurSdAy 7 MArch 9.30AM - 12.30PM Clonmel Resource Centre, Kickham Street, Clonmel Basic Bookkeeping and Taxation €30 The course which takes place over 4 evenings will cover the theory and practice of setting up a simple bookkeeping system. Participants will cover the working elements to prepare Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet and will be introduced to revenue rules on calculating tax on profits and the other taxes that will apply in business. Participants will be shown how to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge on how to source tenders, identify tender opportunities and learn skills such as preparing and writing successful tenders, understanding public procurement policies, preparing tender documents and managing the brief. ThurSdAy 14 MArch 9.30AM - 4.30PM Horse & Jockey Hotel, Thurles Introduction to VAT €30 Participants on this half day course will gain an understanding of their obligations to Revenue, and the business records they must keep to satisfy Revenue. Topics covered will include: introduction to VAT; different VAT rates; Revenue’s definition of a business expense; calculating Revenue liability when working from home; when and how to make a VAT return, and the benefits and advantages of VAT registration. TuESdAy 26 MArch 9.30AM – 12.30PM Racket Hall Hotel, Roscrea how To File a Tax return-Manual & rOS Online €30 The aim of the workshop is to inform small business owners or managers about tax obligations, the payment of tax and filing of tax returns under self-assessment. The programme aids participants to make decisions about which taxes to register for and then how to use the revenue online service to mind their tax accounts. At the end of the seminar, participants will have the ability to manage their accounts with Revenue, and understand the importance of digital certificates and how Revenue security works. WEdnESdAy 3 APrIL 9.30AM – 12.30PM Moycarkey-Borris Community Centre, Littleton debt collection Workshop €30 The aim of this workshop is to improve participants’ credit management skills. There are a number of key areas which can cause issues for the small business in relation to credit management. These key areas will be covered, such as dealing with new customers, credit to customers, length of time it takes to issue invoices to customers, the importance of written contracts and quotations. Participants will leave the course with a better understanding of their role as employers and with working templates to support them in relation to operating procedures, staff handbook, and grievance and discipline procedures and policies.. Participants will learn how to set up a Facebook business page to effectively promote their business, product or service. Participants will learn how to engage the customer and build brand loyalty by increasing likes, shares and reach. Participants should already have a personal Facebook page and be comfortable with functionality prior to attendance at this course as time will not allow for tutor to instruct in setting up a Facebook page. Participants will be equipped with the tools and knowledge to be comfortable managing and promoting their website. Please note that this is not a course on how to design and build a Wordpress website. This is a practical workshop where participants will be instructed on how to create a video from storyboarding and scripting through to editing using graphics and voiceovers. Each participant will be given the opportunity to record an online video and instruction on how to upload it to their online marketing platforms. They will gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of what is involved in designing their website so that it performs for their individual business. Participants will learn about the importance of good design, content development and website promotion, and how to create a consistent brand and promote and market their business online. TuESdAy 19 FEBruAry 9.30AM - 12.30PM Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh Selling Online - What you need to Know €30 This seminar will provide an overview of the technologies involved in creating an online web store, payment methods, shipping and also the legal aspects such as consumer’s rights and taxation issues. The course will provide an overview of website e-Commerce concerns- pricing, dealing with third parties, what platforms to use, getting found, converting sales, getting your content and layout right, targeting your customers, hidden costs when budgeting, security and backups. The Programme matches up the knowledge, skills, insights and entrepreneurial capability of experienced business practitioners with small business owner/ managers who need practical and strategic one to one advice and guidance on planning for the impact of Brexit. The mentor contributes independent, informed observation and advice to aid decision making. All applications for mentor assistance are dealt with individually and must be preceded by the business completing the Brexit SME Scorecard to assess the key needs of the business to determine the most essential mentoring objectives. The content and intensity of the programme modules will be based on the training need requirements of the participating companies. One to One Support Each participating company will receive a minimum of 3 on site visits that will address the key critical issues facing your business. The visits also provide the opportunity for redefining the learning points from the workshops and start applying them to the management of your business. Lean is about being effective and efficient - doing things quicker, better, cheaper together. Lean strives to stamp out waste and to continually improve performance. Lean for Micro is designed to encourage existing firms adopt Lean business principles in their organisations to increase competitiveness. The Lean programme involves a short in-company assignment by an external ‘Lean’ consultant who will introduce Lean principles and complete a specific cost reduction project. The programme will commence with a diagnostic of current practice and performance. Key performance indicators will be established to achieve targeted business improvement measures based on a set of Lean tools and methodologies tailored to suit each client’s situation. Lean for Micro is available to eligible companies across a variety of sectors. The Programme will involve a mix of workshops and on-site meetings. The programme is also ideal for firms trading with Northern Ireland or the UK who wish to review their cost base and margins ahead of BREXIT.
