Brookburn’s ‘Extra Time’ Activities Programme Welcome to your ‘one stop shop’ for finding out about clubs and activities that happen after school at Brookburn. These clubs are provided by Brookburn staff, Brookburn parents and professional activity companies, for the benefit of our children. The aim is for them to enrich the curriculum and be a source of stimulation and fun for all ages. Wherever possible, these clubs are free or for a minimal cost, however professional activity companies will incur costs that they must cover and will therefore often charge a fee. There was fantastic participation, once again, throughout last year, that we hope will continue this academic year. Due to a finite availability of space, there is a limit on what we are able to offer our children, especially in terms of sport related activities, however some clubs are committed to using the outdoor spaces come rain or shine, as we endeavor to im- prove on this. Most children are able to attend the club that is their first choice and waiting lists will continue to operate to ensure everyone gets their turn at some point over the school year. We are delighted that some new clubs and activities have been added to the list and we are extremely grateful for the support of parents and teachers in getting these established. Please feel free to contact Bethan Hulse, the Deputy Head, if you have other ideas or could offer any clubs to develop our ‘Extra Time’ Programme. Please read the extra activities page carefully. Please note that some clubs request pay- ment weekly, some half termly and others termly. We are looking to attract organisations to rent space in the school for clubs, events, etc. We have availability in the evenings (after 6pm) and at weekends. Please contact the school office on admin@brookburn.manchester.sch.uk. Thank you for your support.

Our ‘Extra Time’ policy: terms and conditions General Our `extra time’ activities are planned to extend children’s experience at Brookburn and their enjoyment of school life. They are not part of the formal curriculum and are voluntary. They are open to all children and our equal opportunities policy applies. We will plan activities so that they are fully inclusive. In some instances, we may organise a club to attract a particular group who are under represented in the ‘extra time’ activities. Clubs will have a minimum number of children required to run and may need to be cancelled if that number is not met. We welcome feedback and ideas for extending the programme. Our standards for activities organised by the school All activities will be overseen by a member of school staff. Activities may be led by a member of school staff, by a volunteer or by an additional helper employed for this purpose. All adults involved have a valid DBS. We will ensure that all those leading activities are appropriately qualified or experienced. All activities will be carefully planned and we will monitor them to ensure their quality. For each activity, we will survey children taking part to find out how well they are satisfied and where we can improve. We will also consult parents through a focus group or survey from time to time. Our normal safety standards and procedures will apply. We will take all reasonable care to ensure the safety of children taking part. Our insurance does not cover personal accident or injury to participants or loss/damage to personal property unless it can be shown that this is due to negligence by school employees, volunteer helpers or assistants for the activity. We expect the same standard of behaviour during these activities as we would in the normal school day. If a child does not meet these expectations s/he may be asked not to attend. What we ask of parents/carers In applying for activities you must ensure that you disclose any medical conditions which your child may have and which staff organising the activities should be aware of. You must provide an emergency contact number. You must arrange for your child to be collected for their journey home promptly at the end of the activity. Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed and has any clothing or equipment specified for the activity. You must contact school or the club leader if your child is not attending the club. Activities organised by outside bodies These activities are not overseen by a member of school staff and are the sole responsibil- ity of the professional company running the activity. In agreeing to these activities, we will do our best to ensure that they are of high quality and led by appropriately qualified adults. We will make a formal agreement with the provider which will include all necessary checks. We will monitor these activities to ensure that standards and safety are maintained and will get feedback from children. Children attending parent led clubs may be charged £1 - £2 to cover refreshments. Private specialists and companies organising activities on the school premises are responsible for setting their own charges. These specialists / companies have their own public liability and are charged for the use of the premises and facilities. When agreeing for these activities to take place we will encourage the provider to ensure that the charges are reasonable and that some free places are made available for children on free school meals.
