Introduction The best business leaders are those who understand and integrate all functional areas to make decisions that are aligned with their firm’s strategic goals. These leaders possess comprehensive business skills, an entrepreneurial mindset, and are able to operate as a strategic thinker, organisation builder, and operations manager. BFM’s GMP aims to help you develop these skills, adopt flexible leadership styles, and sharpen your decision-making abilities to lead more confidently. This 14 day course over four months covers key functional areas namely strategy, design and innovation, marketing, finance, and leadership. A certificate of participation is awarded for attending all modules. 1

Curriculum Strategy (27 - 29 July, Mon - Wed) Business leaders use strategy to coordinate functional areas. This module takes you through competitive strategy and corporate strategy frameworks, strategy execution, and change management. You will learn from experiences of best practice organisations and gain skills and techniques to achieve strategic outcomes. Cases: Lloyds Bank, Google, Haier, Hero Honda India, ThyssenKrupp / Malaysian company turnaround Design & Innovation (30 - 31 July, Thu - Fri) Great designs have propelled companies like Apple, Dyson, Philips, BMW and Four Seasons to international cult brand status. Participants study how companies use design and innovation as a competitive advantage. Topics include design thinking principles, methodologies and tools to innovate and develop better products, services and user experiences. This module includes a service design collaboration with Prince Court Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Marketing (24 - 26 August, Mon - Wed) You will explore the various disciplines and levers of marketing, and take an in-depth look into pricing, channel management, product development, branding and advertising, and developments in China. A mix of B2B and B2C case studies will be discussed to expose you to different industries and markets. Cases: Burberry, Clique Pens, Fortis, Unilever Hindustan, Xiameter Finance (28 - 30 September, Mon - Wed) This module is designed to provide a solid foundation in financial management regardless if you have finance experience and training. Personal Leadership (26 - 27 October, Mon - Tue) Leadership is a people business. The complexity of personal motivations and relationships can make the job of managers challenging. In this interactive class, you will learn how to adopt different leadership styles, and develop skills in influencing without authority, in dealing with conflict, and managing a multigenerational workforce. Participants will complete a pre-course leadership profile test. Cases will be used to discuss leadership problems. Entrepreneurial Leadership (28 October, Wed) The programme culminates in a wrap-up where you will review with the Course Facilitator what you have learnt in each module, and the essential skills of an entrepreneurial leader. “Through the leadership module, I gained a better understanding of myself, and why and how people deal or interact with me and my most inclined response.” Ramesh Mark Sankey, Group General Manager for Content, Astro Radio (GMP ‘14) 5
Faculty Strategy Dr Philipp Meyer-Doyle INSEAD, Fontainebleau Meyer-Doyle is an Assistant Professor of Strategy at INSEAD where he teaches corporate strategy in MBA and executive education programmes. He has worked for UBS Investment Bank specialising in mergers and acquisitions advisory, and for a private equity fund in London where he was also a director of one of its portfolio companies. During this time, he was involved in advising organisations on their acquisitions and strategy, and in the sourcing, appraisal, and execution of acquisitions. His research interests extend to micro-foundations of strategy, corporate strategy, mergers, private equity, and hedge funds. His research has been published in premier journals like the Strategic Management Journal. He has won several prestigious awards for his research from leading academic management and strategy associations including the AOM BPS Robert Litschert award. He holds a PhD and Master of Science degree in Managerial Science and Applied Economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, as well as a BSc (Hons) in Management from the London School of Economics. “The strategy case studies were interesting. Design & Innovation Dr Carlos Montana University of Canberra An award-winning industrial designer, Montana is currently an Associate Professor and Course Convener of industrial design at the University of Canberra. With more than 15 years of experience, he has been a keynote speaker at international conferences and design workshops, a jury for design competitions, and advisor to academic and professional design-related institutions. Companies he has collaborated with include Motorola, Siemens, Philips, Asus, Fujitsu, and Matsushita Denki (Panasonic). As a design practitioner, Montana has been involved in designing packaging (Unilever Andina); electric appliances (Whirlpool, Italy); and ceramics (Colceramica Organizacion Corona). He has studied, taught and developed design projects in Colombia, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Australia. Several of his projects as well as student-projects he supervised have won international design awards like the Du Pont Imagineering, Braun Prize, and Red Dot. He has also taught in EAFIT University in Colombia, and the National University of Singapore. Montana holds a BA in Industrial Design from Javeriana University in Colombia, and an MA and PhD in design from Kobe Design University. “Pleasantly surprised and hungry for more. Marketing Dr Yi Xiang CEIBS, Shanghai Yi is an Associate Professor of Marketing at China Europe International Business School, the leading business school in China that has achieved top tier global rankings for its postgraduate programmes. He has been a guest lecturer at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago; and Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley. He has published in major academic journals such as Marketing Science, Management Science, and Quantitative Marketing and Economics, and has received awards for research and teaching. He was a finalist for the John Little Best Paper Award in 2008, and for the HKUST Franklin Teaching Prize in 2009 and 2011, and a runner-up for the Dick Wittink Best Paper Award in 2014. Yi has worked with Bekaert and BaoSteel in China, and Philip Morris in France. Finance Wong Kah Teck FMTCS, Kuala Lumpur Wong has more than a decade of capital markets experience. He was a portfolio strategist at CIMB Investment Bank and AmInvestment Bank where he was responsible for spearheading investment advisory and product development initiatives strategies. He also played an active role in evaluating plain vanilla and hybrid fund-raising options. He started his career at the Securities Commission in research and capital market policymaking. Now the managing director and principal trainer for FMTCS, Wong has taught professionals in financial institutions and government-linked investment institutions. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and graduated summa cum laude with a dual degree in finance and economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and School of Arts and Sciences. “Kah Teck has in-depth knowledge, and is very passionate and eager to teach and share. Personal Leadership Helen Langhammer Aspire Consulting, Kuala Lumpur Langhammer has delivered leadership, team development, and account management training to multinational companies in Europe, US and Asia. She spent the first 10 years of her career in the pharmaceutical sector in the UK before moving to a consultancy which specialised in training for the B2B sector. Since 2002, she has been a director of Aspire Consulting in Malaysia. Her clients include Nestle, DHL, Pfizer, Emery Oleochemicals, and Monash University. About BFM Business School is a division of BFM Media, the operator of BFM 89.9, Malaysia’s only business radio station. Malek Ali Course Facilitator Malek is the founder of BFM Media. Known for bringing new products to the market, he was head of mobile content at Maxis, and head of mobile operations at Yahoo! Southeast Asia. Prior to that, he was one of the pioneering staff of JobStreet, and was a consultant with The Boston Consulting Group in Kuala Lumpur, and a corporate lawyer with Allen & Overy in London. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, and is a law graduate of University of Bristol. Noelle Lim Programme Director Lim is a producer/presenter and the first employee of BFM 89.9, and writes for Forbes Asia. She had worked for OSK Investment Bank, the Securities Commission, and Arthur Andersen & Co. She graduated from the University of Hull, and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW), and in 2015, the recipient of an Eisenhower Fellowship. Grace Yeo Account Manager Yeo is responsible for sales and customer relationship for BFM Business School. A well-travelled person, her work experience includes business development in the travel and tourism industry. She holds a higher diploma in tourism management from Taylor’s University.
