September’s arrival is the beginning of new activities while old favorites resume. All our daily activities and lunches are currently back in full swing. Whether you participate in fitness classes, wellness programs, social activities, life-long learning, or volunteerism, Senior Centers like Beechwood, are resources for wellness, intellectual growth, creative expression, fun with friends, and information on aging. We are the future of what aging can be! Our newsletter gives you detailed descriptions of our current offerings. Stop by for a coffee, join a program or make a reservation for lunch. If it’s your first time visiting, please introduce yourself to our staff. We look forward to seeing you! North Kingstown Senior Association (Friends of Beechwood) News ~ Friends of Beechwood Board of Directors would like to welcome all of you back to Beechwood. We want to give our sincerest thanks to our Director, Marie Marcotte, and her wonderful staff for keeping our Senior Center operating behind the scenes, following both state and local Covid protocols, budget considerations, continued outreach to the community, and all functions to keep Beechwood efficiently running during a long and challenging year. Our wishes for a happy and healthy return to everyone. For the month of September 2021, the North Kingstown Senior Association will receive a $1.00 donation from each purchase of the $2.50 reusable Community Bag at the Stop & Shop store located at 90 Frenchtown Road, North Kingstown RI. NEW CLASS: Dance & Tone ~ Begins Friday, September 17, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at the Cold Spring Community Center, 30 Beach Street Drop-in program, fee is $2 per person/per class. Instructor: Daryl Brazo The Dance and Tone class involves low impact dance moves to favorite music throughout the ages. The dance steps/combinations are fun, simple, and easy to follow for a cardiovascular challenge. The toning portion will consist of (head to toe) strengthening exercises to build muscle tone while using a variety of equipment. Participants are encouraged to bring their own weights. Weights may also be borrowed from Beechwood and should be cleaned before returning the weights to Beechwood. Come join us for a different, enjoyable fitness experience! New Beechwood Policies For the health, safety and well-being of all, new building policies include the following: ⚫ If you are sick, please stay home. If you have a fever, cough and/or shortness of breath, contact your health care provider. ⚫ Pre-registration is required for lunches, social services appointments, transportation and programs. Please see page 2 for a list of staff and their contact information. ⚫ An appointment is required to meet with social services. Please wait or sit in designated areas only. ⚫ If state guidelines require that a mask or cloth face covering must be worn by individuals who are not fully vaccinated for Covid-19 while indoors in a public space, participants who are not fully vaccinated must wear a mask or cloth face covering while inside Beechwood. ⚫ Hand sanitizer will be provided at the front entrance. ⚫ Water bottles are allowed, but no outside food may be brought into the building. ⚫ The programs listed in this newsletter are subject to change. ⚫ We reserve the right to decline services to anyone who does not adhere to the policies. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Beechwood at 268-1590. New Transportation Policies For the health, safety and well-being of all, new transportation policies include the following: Grocery Shopping: ⚫ If you are sick, please stay home. If you have a fever, cough and/or shortness of breath, contact your health care provider. ⚫ If state guidelines require that a mask or cloth face covering must be worn while on public transportation, passengers must wear a mask or cloth face covering while on the bus. ⚫ Transportation reservations for grocery shopping will be accepted one full business day in advance. Please call Missy at 268-1590, one full business day in advance, to make a reservation or for additional information. ⚫ Seating may be limited. The maximum number of passengers per bus, per day, may be eight. ⚫ Passengers must choose to shop at Dave’s Market or Stop & Shop and will be limited to grocery shopping one day per week at the store they choose. ⚫ There is a maximum limit of four reusable canvas shopping bags per passenger. Large items such as soda, bulk paper towels, cat litter, etc. need to fit into a bag or each large item will be counted as one bag. There are NO exceptions. ⚫ The driver will bring groceries bags to each passenger’s front door. The driver is NOT allowed to bring bags into residences. ⚫ The transportation schedule is subject to change. ⚫ We reserve the right to decline services to anyone who does not adhere to the policies. Grocery Shopping Schedule: All shoppers will be allotted 1 hour and 15 minutes to shop. ⚫ Tuesday mornings from your home to Dave’s Market in Wickford at 9:00 a.m. ⚫ Thursday mornings from your home to Stop & Shop on Frenchtown Road at 9:00 a.m. ⚫ Transportation to Wal-Mart will resume on September 22, 2021. Although a Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) may cover your medications in 2021, the same plan may not cover the same medications in 2022. It is beneficial to review your plan every year.
