“Welcome to Bangor University International College (BUIC). BUIC is an embedded college on the Bangor University campus. Here, you can do the first stage of your integrated Bachelors or Masters course in a broad range of subjects before completing your degree at Bangor University. As a BUIC student, you will have access to all university services and facilities so will feel part of the university from the day you start. As College Director of BUIC, I am committed to ensuring that you receive the best possible learning and teaching experience. You will study with students from all over the world. Our dedicated team of experienced tutors will help you adjust to academic life in the UK so that you are ready for the transition seamlessly into University. Our tutors focus on developing your English language and academic study skills as well as core subject knowledge. Our classes are typically small and interactive in nature. You will receive a lot of individual support and regular feedback on your academic performance. All of this will help you to increase your confidence in communicating in a higher education context and put you on the path to both academic success and future career success. At BUIC, we are incredibly proud of the high level of individualised support that we provide to all our students on every step of the student journey, from pre-arrival to post-departure. If you join us, you really will feel looked after and part of the BUIC family. During the Covid-19 Pandemic, we will do everything to ensure that there is a safe environment for students and staff. The University campus will be open to students for the September 2020 intake, on 12 October 2020 for BUIC. We will be providing students with a Blended Learning experience which will be a mixture of online and on campus delivery with social distancing measures in place. For students who are unable or not ready to start on campus in October, you can also start your studies online on 12 October and transfer to online study when the time is right. IYZ provides 1-year of preparation for entry into the first year of a 3-year bachelor’s degree at Bangor University. PRE-SESSIONAL ENGLISH Provides you with an initial period of intensive English language training and assessments. This academic English support is delivered over half a term (6 weeks) or one full term (12 weeks). You will need to successfully complete this before you can continue onto your chosen pathway. BLENDED LEARNING BUIC is committed to delivering an excellent student experience without compromising your safety. This means that we provide you with a blended learning experience which combines online and campus-based learning. Keeping you safe on campus Bangor University has adopted a range of health and safety rules on campus such as a robust cleaning schedule, hand sanitising stations and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). International Year Zero (IYZ) stages of entry The IYZ is the first year of the 4-year IIB. Your first year is taught at BUIC. Once you successfully complete this year, you will continue studying the remaining stages of your degree directly with Bangor University. Pre-sessional English Delivered by Continue at The IIB degree offers a 4-year degree option at Bangor University in a range of popular subjects. International Year Zero (IYZ) is the first year of your IIB and is designed to help you gain extra skills in your subject area, as well as English language. IYZ is studied across three terms. COMMON MODULES FOR ALL IYZ PATHWAYS As well as modules unique to your specific pathway, you will also study several modules common to all pathways. These modules are: English for Academic Purposes (EAP) EAP aims to improve your English skills to help you with life and study in the UK. You’ll learn the critical importance of English Language competence in an academic context and prepare for continuing academic study at Bangor University. UK Government and Society Providing an introduction to government and society in the UK, this module explores how Britain has changed and developed since 1945. You’ll learn the main features of British democracy, the crown, Parliament, cabinet government, devolution, local government and the role of the civil service.
