Sasha, crazy, sexy, alcoholic, 23, falls in love with Alex crazy, sexy, alcoholic, 60. It’s the story of two people who fall in love with their alter ego.
Sasha, 23. She’s been out roaming Berlin streets day and night. All she wants is to forget: her past, her ex, life and herself. She drinks without a rest. She’d like to drop dead. This is when she meets Alex, 60. He drinks to forget as well. Both connect their philosophy of life and their refusal to participate in the world’s circus. But Sasha leads another fight: against people’s perceptions of her and their projections onto her. What starts as a fast-paced game ends in a trip of self-hatred and despair.
Directors Statement An older friend of mine told me he fell in love with a young woman. Initially I was repelled by the idea of a relationship between a young woman and an older man. Subsequently I pondered how could I be so superficial. But the image of the ‘Lolita’ is firmly embedded in our cultural history, albeit quite worn, and it is currently used against thoughts of emancipation. This topic and the discomfort caused by my own prejudices and cultural context held my attention for a long time. So I decided to go ahead with the experiment: What would have to happen to bring this unequal couple together without bringing sex or money into the play? What if we tell the ‘Lolita’ story differently? What are our expectations of a movie dealing with this topic? ‘Baby Bitchka’ is Sasha’s story, told from Alex’s perspective, like also Vladimir Nabokov’s ‘Lolita’ is told from men’s perspective. By the end the question is how Sasha serves currently as a mirror for societies prejudices?
