1. IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS Before moving on to the detail, prospective entrants are advised to read through the guidelines in full. These provide important areas of clarity for candidates about standards and the level of professionalism expected. The guidelines also include full details of the rules of entry. 1.1 Points to Remember for Entrants • Kindly note that it will be presumed that entrants of the awards have read & understood these rules and agree to abide by them. • A £50 admin fee is payable upon entry into the individual awards. The admin fee has been introduced to deter unwelcome applications. It also covers the cost of assessing your entry and will be deducted from the cost of your Award ticket if you are selected as a finalist. • Upon entering the Awards, it will be assumed participants consent to the transfer of their data & content to Administrator of the Awards Database where the provided data will be used for award administration purposes as well as other purposes for which participants consent to when applying for the awards. • Judges have the complete right to decline the distribution of awards either from one or all categories, if they do not find the presented content exciting or of winning quality. • The Organiser reserves the right to change the categories and the judging panel without prior notice to entrants, if he or she deems fit. • The decision of the Chairperson is final and legally binding, among the judges on all matters affecting this competition. • No correspondence will be entered in to. • The Organiser reserves the right at its absolute discretion to reject any entry that it deems inappropriate.
• Judges have the complete right to delcline the ditstrbution of awards either from one or all of the categories, if they do not find the presented exiting , are not winning quality or if the entry is found to be in contravention with one or more of the competition rules. 1.2 Points to Remember for Finalists • If selected as a finalist, you must be able to attend the awards ceremony to receive your award. Failure to do so will result in your withdrawal from the competition. 1.3 Points to Remember for Nominations & Awards • Entrants of the Individual Awards are reminded that they must operate in UK & Ireland and hold a recognised micropigmentation qualification and Certificate of Insurance covering the period of their nomination. • Entrants for Industry Awards must be a UK & Ireland registered company and its products certified for use in UK & Ireland. • Make sure you are nominating the individual, product or company for the appropriate award. • Identify at least one or more of the award criteria that the nominee exemplified, then explain how the achievement was outstanding. • Remember, nominations do not compete against one another but rather against the criteria for that award. • Each category will have one & ONLY one winner. AWARDS AND NOMINATIONS The Micropigmentation UK Conference and Awards 2021, herein known as the ‘Awards’, is organised by Micropigmentation UK Ltd, Sherwood Enterprises Centre, Nottingham NG5 1RH, herein known as the ‘Organiser’. The Awards recognise and reward individuals, products and companies within the UK Micropigmentation community that have showed excellence in their work during the past twelve months. They are open to individuals and companies at all levels within the industry that demonstrate excellence and/or innovation in each of the competitions award categories listed. MPUK is committed to the promoting best practice and activities that lead to improved technical results, business operations, enhanced products and services.
3. THE NIGHT OF THE AWARDS The winners will be announced at a lavish award ceremony, to be held at the prestigious De Vere, East Midlands Conference Centre. A venue chosen for its exquisite surroundings and is somewhere that we believe will provide the most perfect backdrop from which to both learn and celebrate some of the outstanding contributions and achievements within this amazing industry. The Awards event will commence at 7pm with a drink’s reception, followed by a lavish three course awards dinner and awards ceremony. The awards are attended by over 300 guests and including live entertainment, music and dancing. So, don’t forget to book your tickets early to guarantee a table on the night. Dress Code Cocktail Dresses and Black Tie Venue De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre is a modern destination for meetings, conferences, training and business events. The centre is conveniently located just 10 minutes from J25 of the M1, 20 minutes from East Midlands Airport, and with direct trains from central London. 4. THE AWARD CATEGORIES The Awards are divided into two categories; Individual Awards & Industry Awards. Details of each are as follows: 4.1 Individual Awards The “Individual Awards” are presented to professionals who can demonstrate a high and consistent level of technical excellence in their work. 4.1.1 Judge’s Preference Insight Particular attention in the judging of individual awards will be paid to the criteria listed below, which includes the candidate’s knowledge of Micropigmentation theory, their application of appropriate procedure and technique set out in their personal statement. 4.1.2 Individual Award Categories The Individual Awards are divided into the following ten (10) categories, each having its own separate position, criteria and importance.
1) Eyebrow Artist of the Year (Under 2 Years) Machine Method • Winner’s Description: This award will be presented to the eyebrow technician who has consistently delivered results of an exceptional standard using a standard Micropigmentation machine. • Judgment Criteria: Judges will be evaluating nominations on the basis of the symmetry, shape, color and end result. Judges will also be scoring your personal statement and success statement. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants MUST be able to prove that they have not held a recognised qualification in Micropigmentation for more than less than two years. 2) Eyebrow Artist of the Year (Over 2 Years) Machine Method • Winner’s Description: This award will be presented to the eyebrow technician who has consistently delivered results of the exceptional standard using a standard Micropigmentation machine. • Judgment Criteria: Judges will be evaluating based on the symmetry, shape, color and end result. Judges will also be scoring your personal statement and success statement. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants MUST be able to prove they have held a recognised qualification in Micropigmentation for more than two years. 3) Permanent Make-Up Artist of the Year (Over 2 Years) • Winner’s Description: This award will go to the permanent makeup artist who in the judge’s opinion has been the stand out technician in the Micropigmentation industry over the past year. The person is expected to be trained in carrying out a variety of technical procedures that include eyebrows, lips and eyeliner. • Judgment Criteria: Judges will be evaluating on the basis of the symmetry, shape, color and end result. Judges will also be scoring your personal statement and success statement. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be able to prove they have held a recognised qualification in Micropigmentation for more than two years. 4) Permanent Make-Up Artist of the Year (Under 2 Years) • Winner’s Description: This award will go to the permanent makeup artist who in the judge’s opinion has been the stand out technician in the Micropigmentation industry over the past year. The person is expected to be trained in carrying out a variety of technical procedures that include eyebrows, lips and eyeliner. • Judgment Criteria: Judges will be evaluating on the basis of the symmetry, shape, color and end result. Judges will also be scoring your personal statement and success statement. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be able to prove they have not held a recognised qualification in Micropigmentation for less than two years
5) Scalp Technician of the Year (Under 2 Years and Over 2 Years) • Winner’s Description: This award will go to the scalp technician who in the judge’s opinion is delivering high quality scalp treatments, showing excellence within their field and contributing to the raising of standards within the industry over the past year. This person is multi-disciplined in carrying out a variety of technical procedures, including scalp. • Judgment Criteria: Judges will be evaluating on the basis of the symmetry, shape, color and end result. Judges will also be scoring your personal statement and success statement. • Award Entry Requirement: Participants must be able to prove a UK recognized qualification in scalp Micropigmentation. 6) Medical Technician of the Year • Winner’s Description: This award will go to the medical technician who in the judge’s opinion has been the stand out performer of Medical Micropigmentation treatment over the past year. The person who is multi- disciplined in carrying out a variety of technical procedures, including areola, scar and camouflage. • Judgment Criteria: Judges will be evaluating on the basis of the symmetry, shape, color and end result. Judges will also be scoring your personal statement and success statement. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be able to prove that they have a UK recognised qualification in medical Micropigmentation. 7) Medical Areola Technician of the Year • Winner’s Description: This award will go to the medical areola technician who in the judge’s opinion has been the stand out performer of Medical Areola Micropigmentation treatment over the past year. The person a specialist in carrying out areola procedures • Judgment Criteria: Judges will be evaluating on the basis of the symmetry, shape, color and end result. Judges will also be scoring your personal statement and success statement. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be able to prove that they have a UK recognised qualification in medical Micropigmentation.
8) Microblading Technician of the Year (Over 2years) • Winner’s Description: This award will go to the permanent makeup artist who in the judge’s opinion has been the stand out performer in microblading over the past year. The person will be multi-disciplined and able to carry out a variety of technical procedures, including eyebrows using a microblading tool. • Judgment Criteria: Judges will be evaluating on the basis of the symmetry, shape, color and end result. Judges will also be scoring your personal statement and success statement. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be able to prove they have held a recognised qualification in microblading for more than two years. 9) Microblading Technician of the Year (Under 2years) • Winner’s Description: This award will go to the permanent makeup artist who in the judge’s opinion has been the stand out performer in microblading over the past year. The person will be multi-disciplined and able to carry out a variety of technical procedures, including eyebrows using a microblading tool. • Judgment Criteria: Judges will be evaluating on the basis of the symmetry, shape, color and end result. Judges will also be scoring your personal statement and success statement. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be able to prove they have held a recognised qualification in microblading for less than two years. 10) Lifetime Achievement Award • Winner’s Description: This award will be presented to the person who in the judge’s opinion represents dedication, determination and leadership and has made a significant contribution to the growth and development of Micropigmentation, and the Micropigmentation industry in the UK over many years.
4.2 Industry Awards 4.2 Industry Awards The “Industry Awards” are presented to companies or products that demonstrate a high and consistent level of excellence through their respective product or service. 4.2.1 Judge’s Preference Insight Attention will be paid to entrant’s knowledge of the Micropigmentation industry, and their commitment to providing products and services that highest standards. 4.2.2 Industry Award Categories The Industry Awards are divided into the following seven (7) categories, each having its own separate position and Importance. 1) Innovation Award • Winner’s Description: This award will be presented for innovation, in the form of new technology, system, product or widely available service, which in the judge’s opinion has led to the most significant advancement or improvement within the UK Micropigmentation industry during the past year. • Judgment Criteria: Judges will prefer a service that has led to the most significant advancement or improvement within the UK Micropigmentation industry during the past year • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be registered and licensed for use in the UK. 2) Best Pigment Range • Winner’s Description: This award will be given to the pigment range considered to deliver all round best value and performance. • Judgment Criteria: Judges will consider factors as the price, as well as the products accessibility, durability and finish. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be registered and licensed for use in the UK.
3) Best Customer Service • Winner’s Description: This award will be given to the company who in the judge’s opinion delivers the best customers service experience. • Judgment Criteria: Entrants will be assessed based on such things as telephone etiquette, listening skills, willingness to help and follow through using our ‘mystery shopper’ programme, amongst other judging methods. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be registered and licensed to operate in the UK. 4) Best Use of Social Media • Winner’s Description: This award will be awarded to the company that in the judge’s opinion demonstrate effective use of social media in marketing their business services. • Judgment Criteria: Entrants will be assessed on their overall social media presence, across multiply platforms, having a strong visual presence and clear messaging, is easy to read using plain English and, provides up to date and accurate information. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be registered and licensed to operate in the UK. 5) Best Website • Winner’s Description: This award will be awarded to the company whose website, in the judge’s opinion has the best overall package and is proving an effective tool in marketing the business and its services. • Judgment Criteria: Entrants will be assessed on their website having a strong visual presence and clear message. The website must be functional, easy to navigate and read, using plain English, provide good and accurate information, with contact information that is clear and visible. Must also have clear links to social media pages. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be registered and licensed to operate in the UK.
6) Make Up Machine (Under £1500) • Winner’s Description: This award will be given to the machine that in the judge’s opinion has the strongest overall function. A machine that produces the highest possible results, safe and hygienic. Must include a good range of sterile safety needles that prevent cross-contamination. • Judgment Criteria: Areas the judge’s will be assessing include; the professional look and feel of the machine, speed settings, ease of use and implants pigment evenly. • Award Entry Requirement: Entrants must be registered and licensed for use in the UK and cost less £1500 7) Make Up Machine (Over £1500) • Winner’s Description: This award will be given to the machine that in the judge’s opinion has the strongest overall function. 5. JUDGMENT CRITERIA Since there are two award categories (Individual & Industry), the criteria for judging is divided into two sections and different evaluation criteria for each category. Entrants can read about the respective Criteria below. 5.1 Judgment Criteria for Individual Awards Judges will assess the Individual Award Entrants using the five criteria highlighted below. Each entrant will be evaluated using a scorecard of between 1 - 5 stars. Your personal statement and success statement will also be scored. Criteria 1: Symmetry Criteria 2: Shape Criteria 3: Colour Criteria 4: End Result Criteria 5: Wow factor 5.2 Judgment Criteria for Industry Awards Judges will assess the Industry Award Entrants using the criteria mentioned below. The respective entrants will be evaluated out of 5 stars for each criterion, explained as follows: Criteria 1: Price Criteria 2: Quality Criteria 3: Ease of Use Criteria 4: End Result Criteria 5: Wow factor
6. RULES OF ENTRY 6.1 Who can Enter The competition is open to all stakeholders within the UK & Ireland Micropigmentation industry. NOTE: specific criterion for entry into each award category is outlined in these awards guidelines and can also be found on the MPUK website. Anybody professionally connected with the competition are not eligible for entry. This includes MPUK staff members, the Organisers, members of the Organisers family, agents etc. Participants must be 18yrs of age or older and be employed by or own a UK registered business offering services or products to or of use by the general public. 6.2 Rules of Conduct There is no limit to the number of categories that entrants can enter into. Entries will ONLY BE ACCEPTED if they are submitted through the awards section of the MPUK website and are completed in full. Responsibility will not be taken for any lost, late or mislaid entries or which otherwise do not comply with these terms and conditions or may be deemed invalid in the sole discretion of the Organiser. Participants shall be solely responsible for any and all content they present EXCEPT content introduced by MPUK. Entrants WILL provide consent to the Organiser for the publication of their content, documents or any material that leads to their entry into the awards. Anyone wishing to partake in the MPUK 2021 Awards must comply as per the above criteria to ensure their work is accurately and fairly assessed. Any hint or clue as to who the candidate is within the application will be treated as a serious breach of the rules and result in instant disqualification. Participants must provide their website address, which must demonstrate that they are eligible to take part in the desired category. 7. POINTS TO REMEMBER Entrants of the Individual Awards are reminded that they MUST operate in UK & Ireland and hold a recognized micropigmentation qualification and Certificate of Insurance covering the period of their nomination. Entrants for Industry Awards MUST be a registered company and its products certified for use in UK. Make sure you are nominating the individual, product or company for the appropriate award. The enterant must identify at least one or more of the award criteria that the nominee exemplified, then explain how the achievement was outstanding. Remember, nominations do not compete against one another but rather against the criteria for that award. Photographs, written submission and success statement is all marked by the judges. 7.1 Individual Awards Guidelines Written submission Entrants should provide a maximum 500-word explanation of how they meet each criterion. This must be anonymised and contain no reference to the applicants’ name, place of work, who they trained with or who they previously worked for, or any trading name and ensure the candidates identity is not revealed. This is to ensure that it gives every entrant the fairest possible chance to be judged solely on their technical skills. Professionalism: Consistently meeting or exceeding objectives, demonstrating a quality approach through working practices. Excellence: Evidence of meeting or exceeding the requirements and expectations of customers - whether “customers” means clients. Innovation: Used innovative approaches or technologies to enhance individual practice. Measurable success: Able to demonstrate performance improvements and delivery of treatment techniques. Continuous Professional Development: Able to demonstrate commitment to CPD through training or skills updated in the past 12 months. Each entry, therefore, requires five sections. Success Statement Entrants are required to provide a success statement of a maximum 250-words, summarising why they believe they should win this award.
Photographic Submission Applicants must submit raw images (no filters, enhancing aids or additional colour enhancing applications to be applied to images). Under no circumstances will we accept images with logos or watermarks or fancy frames. Every effort is made to ensure that the nominations process remains completely anonymous and awards granted based on technical merit alone. It is important to keep the lighting consistent when taking the photos, so we advise that your client’s final photos are taken in the same place and conditions. All photographs must be supplied in high resolution and must not be cropped as this will result in low resolution when trying to expand the image to see fine detail. i.e. If you are being judged for hair stroke eyebrows – we need to see detail so take this shot up close. Entrants should submit three (3) sets of photographic examples of work within the following categories: For the Eyebrow Artist of the Year categories, you will need to submit: • Three (3) different clients before, after and healed examples of your eyebrow work taken from the front, left and right side. For the Permanent Make Up Artist of the Year categories, you will need to submit: • Three (3) different clients before, after and healed examples of your eyebrow work taken from front, left and right side • Three (3) different clients before, after and healed examples of eyeliner taken from front, left and right side • Three (3) different clients before, after and healed examples of lips (photo front). For the Microblading Award categories, you will need to submit: • Three (3) different clients ‘before’ and ‘after’ examples of your eyebrow work taken from the front, left and right side. For the Scalp Micropigmentation Award categories, you will need to submit: • Three (3) different clients before, after and healed examples of your scalp work taken from front, left, right, back and top. For the Medical Micropigmentation Award categories, you will need to submit: • Three (3) different before, after and healed examples of your medical work taken from front which can include any areas of medical procedures carried out E.G areola, scar, cleft lips, camouflage or any other medical procedures which fall within medical Micropigmentation For the Medical Areola Award categories, you will need to submit: • Three (3) different clients before and after examples of your medical areola work taken from the front. 7.1.1 Important Note No more than 3 examples accepted. (maximum 9 photos per client) i.e. one before, after and healed photo from the front equals three photos. One before after and healed front the left equals 3 photos. One before after and healed from the right equals three photos. Each example must have a different model. Photo size limited to 100mb. Selfies sent by the Entrants’ clients will not be accepted! Remember no logos on your photographs.
7.2 Industry Awards Guidelines Entrants are required to nominate the company or product of their choice within each of the following award categories, which are also listed on the www.micropigmentationuk.co.uk website. Each entry must also be accompanied by a supporting statement, explaining reasons behind the nomination. Simply leave blank any awards that you do not wish to nominate. Best Pigment Range Award • Name the product and manufacturer you feel has the best pigment range and why? Best Customer Service Award • Name the company you feel has the best customer service and why? Best Customer Service Award • Name the company you feel has provided consistently high levels of service and why? Industry Innovation Award • Name the product and manufacturer you feel has produced the best Industry Innovation in the last 12 months and why? Best Social Media Award • Name the company you feel has the best social media and why? Best Website Award • Name the company you feel has the best website and why? Best Makeup Machine Under £1500 Award • Name the product and manufacturer of Makeup Machine you feel is the best and why? Best Makeup Machine Over £1500 Award • Name the product and manufacturer of Makeup Machine you feel is the best and why? Shortlisting will commence once the nominations have closed. All entrants will then undergo closer inspection by the judges and a decision made based on the combined scorecard of the judges?
8. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) Question 1: Can I submit more than one nomination? Answer: No but you can enter as many categories as you like, if they apply to the main activities within your business. Question 2: What happens after I have submitted my application? Answer: After the entry deadline date of Monday 22nd November 2020, a preliminary judging panel will consider all entries and select finalists for each category. If you are selected as a Finalist, you will be notified by email at the beginning of February 2021 by a member of the MPUK team. Question 3: Will, I be notified if shortlisted in the individual awards? Answer: After the entry deadline date, a preliminary judging panel will consider all entries and select finalists for each category. If you are selected as a Finalist, you will be notified by email in January by a member of the MPUK team. Question 4: Is it necessary for me to attend the Award Ceremony? Answer: Yes, if you are selected as a finalist. However, your £50 entry fee will be deducted from the cost of your ticket Question 5: What benefits will I gain if I become a finalist? Answer: You will receive a Certificate, Professional photograph, Social Media Banners and . Question 6: What information do I need to provide? Answer: A maximum 500-word explanation for how you meet each of the criteria within your award category, plus a maximum 250-word summary of why you believe they should win this award. Each entry is therefore required to provide: • Detail achievements against each of the criteria (up to 500 words) • A success statement (up to 250 words) • Photographic evidence of their work • Certificate of training • Certificate of insurance • All sections of the form must be completed • Portrait Photograph of the Entrant
