A gift for anyone in love with huts
                            – or in love with life
                                              The Hut Lover
                                              Delphine Roux / Evelyne Mary

                                              • The thing he loved most of all was building huts with his friends
in the Little Wood. It was so good to hide away there, cosy and
sheltered from the world, smiling and having fun together.
                                              • Then one day his studies take him away from his friends,
to architecture school. Now he wanders through cities, pencil in hand,
discovering the tents homeless people shelter in. After this he becomes
a builder and works all over the world.
                                              • In Japan he meets Matsuko and falls in love, and one day in
the shelter of her tummy a new life comes into being: cosy
and warm there, slowly a baby is growing. A very beautiful picture book,
sensitive and refined, and unusual in telling the story of a life journey
                                              from childhood through to adulthood.

Age 6+ • Evelyne Mary’s subtle illustrations make this a lovely gift for anyone
19 x 26 cm, 48 pages in love with huts – and anyone in love with life.

Non loin de là, peuplé de lapins, de mousses
et de primevères, le Petit Bois accueillait

Reading the book to a child is a chance to explore all kinds of questions about life journeys,

A book and CD that encourage children

The Book that Speaks Many Languages
                                             Alain Serres / Fred Sochard

                                             • Here is a unique book and CD that make foreign words sing!
On each double-page spread there are a few sentences in French
followed by their translation into another language, which changes
on the next page. This way, children discover words in Arabic, Chinese,
Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Korean, Mongolian, Romani and Inuktitut. . .
                                             • The CD has the story in French, then in the medley of languages
that are unfamiliar to European ears. A third version interweaves
the story in French with these multiple translations.
                                             • The story is that of a little boy dressed in red who manages to escape
from the Big Bad Wolf thanks to his magic book, which keeps repeating
the same story in a different language each time!

                                                Gwendoline Raisson / Clotilde Perrin

                                                • According to folklore, boys are born inside cabbages
                                                and girls in flowers.
                                                • Boys are said to have springs under their feet and to enjoy
war games. Girls supposedly like to dress up as princesses
                                                and play with dolls.
Difficult, in that case, to have fun together. . .
                                                • A delightful fable about a child who brings girls
and boys together by making up games they can all enjoy!

A refreshing reminder that the sea
isn’t an endless source of food!
                                           Little Fisherman, Big Appetite
                                           Suzy Vergez

                                           • A little fisherman living on an island used to catch one fish for the
whole family to share but as time passed his appetite got bigger. . .
                                           • So he made larger and larger nets to bring in a bigger catch,
then he built a fish processing plant to help his business grow. . .
                                           • And soon the gulls were complaining that there wasn’t anything
left for them to eat! And the crabs were panicking: the seabed was
                                           becoming a desert!
                                           • The little fisherman has to leave his island to fish elsewhere.
There he meets a fishing community who treat the sea with
infinite care, tending it like their garden.
                                           • These new friends give him a few seaweed plants and a couple
of fish to bring life back to the seabed around his island. . .

A crucial book for talking about
                       war and child soldiers
                                        War Is Not for Me!
                                        Éric Battut

                                        • A young African, who calls himself Baki-the-football-king,
is recruited by a military group, even though he’s only 12 years old.
We follow his training sessions and the fighting he’s forced to take part
in until he is taken prisoner by the enemy.
                                        • Everything changes when Baki the child soldier manages to escape
and is taken in by a refugee camp where at last he learns to read. . .
                                        • Éric Battut’s hard-hitting book stands out from his prolific output,
not only because of its subject matter, but also because of the strong
but subtle images in fiery colours, especially in the final scenes where
everything calms down and the child becomes Baki-the-schoolteacher
                                        back in his village.

                                          Yves Pinguilly / Zaü

                                          • Alexandre wants to know more about his friend Mariama’s African
origins. Mariama tells him about the rainy season, the savannah,
and the long and terrible history. . .
                                          • She explains that her father’s great-grandfather’s father was a spirit
and that he had seen everything: the arrival of the white men from over
the horizon, the columns of human beings reduced to the status of slaves,
the departures in ships. The ancestor with magical powers then gave
his eyes to a bird to follow his people and bear witness.
                                          • Alongside Zaü’s pastel illustrations, as in the entire Histoire d’histoire
collection, the story is illustrated by etchings of the period, up until
the abolition of slavery in 1848 and the traces that remain today.

                              A courageous young woman
                              and an explosive love story!
The Siren Who Fell from the Sky
Raphaële Frier / Sandra Poirit Cherif

                                                      • Pierre, a fisherman and dreamer, sees a siren fall from
the sky. Once, then twice – and each time an explosion sounds
as the figure falls. The fisherman feels worried. . .
                                                      • In the village Pierre finds out that a wicked circus owner
is using her as a human cannonball – shooting her into
the sky to fill his own pockets!
                                                      • Horrified by how the young woman is being treated, he resolves
to be the hero who saves her from misfortune. The next time
he hears the explosion he heads out to sea, but his boat hits
a rock and he falls into the water. The siren dives in to save his life!
                                                      • Then of course they set out to sea together. Using one of
