Celebrating World Book Day! The 25th anniversary of World Book Day – with the theme ‘you are a reader’- was celebrated by children and staff at Pendle Education Trust’s five schools. The Trust’s secondary school children and staff also dressed up as their favourite characters and at West Craven High School, a fun day including a form time quiz. Staff had taken pictures of their bookshelves at home and students had to guess who they belonged to. Year 10 students also enjoyed visiting Poetry Live in Bradford where they heard from Poet Laureate Simon Armitage and former Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy. Students at West Craven High School also enjoyed a day with comic illustrator Kev F Sutherland. He drew a caricature of each student taking part and students produced a page each for a comic book. Lynne Blomley, Pendle Education Trust Executive Principal for Secondary Education, said: “World Book Day is always a highlight of the calendar in our schools, not least because of our focus on being reading academies. We want all our children to be confident and fluent readers, understanding the diversity of our world and appreciating the richness of language, knowledge and human experiences through what we read. “World Book Day is a fantastic way of promoting this to our families and it was fantastic to see so much excitement and creativity in the schools this week.” Congratulations to Mr Ralph for best staff costume as the Plague Doctor from the book Plague, by Tony Bradman and to Charlie Idle for such an innovative costume as Mechagodzilla from the Godzilla Vs Kong novelisation.

Legally Blonde the Musical Junior What better way to spend a wet and windy Wednesday night, in half term, than at Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre? Mrs Price went to view the production of Legally Blonde The Musical Junior, and had an excellent time. The cast and crew put together a fabulous performance, drawing on their skills to raise the roof on opening night. It was a delight to see West Craven students, Natalie, Isla and Faith, dancing, singing and acting together as part of the Youth Theatre, as they told the love story of Elle Woods and Warner Huntington 3rd as they joined Callahan's class at law school, and what happened during that time. Former West Craven Student, Eden led the Delta Nu girls in supporting Elle as she worked through law school turning to her trusty hairdresser, Paulette, when the chips were down. Every member of the cast, their crew and supporting team should be very proud of what was an inspiring and clear performance. The time and effort put in by all the young people, especially Natalie, Faith, Isla and Eden, was clear to see. Mrs Price had a thoroughly enjoyable night and can't wait for next January's performance of Nativity The Musical! Mrs Price, Head of Geography West Craven cast members: Natalie Barritt, Faith Hargreaves, Isla Rigby and former student Eden Barritt.
Legally Blonde the Musical Junior Former Student Eden to attend NODA Awards This spring, former student Eden Barritt will finally be going to the North West Regional NODA Awards which were postponed in 2020 due to covid. Eden has been nominated for the North West Award after winning the District Award. Also, the review for Legally Blonde Junior has just been released with a glowing review for Eden. Well done!
