SB Introduction The mission of the National Motor Museum Trust (NMMT) is to engage and inspire people with the story of motoring through world-class collections. The Trust is committed to promoting education, research and conservation in motoring history for the benefit of everyone. The award-winning National Motor Museum (NMM) is the UK’s first major museum dedicated to motoring and opened to acclaim in 1972 with the 3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu as a founding Trustee & Chair, and support from the British motor industry. For over five decades the NMM has been a leader and key influencer in the transformation of the independent museums, country house, visitor attraction and historic car sectors. The NMM and its Collections Centre sit within Beaulieu visitor site operated by Beaulieu Enterprises, who are a vital stakeholder and partner. Together with Beaulieu Enterprises, the NMM is a significant part of the local economy and a key component of Hampshire’s cultural landscape. The Museum has long provided leadership as the UK’s primary motoring collection and works in sustainable partnership with museums and other stakeholders, such as the Shell Heritage Art Collection and the Caravan & Motorhome Club Collection. As a nationally styled museum under the Arts Council England's (ACE) Accreditation scheme, the NMM has a national remit and an international reputation. The Museum's collections are designated by ACE as being of national and international significance, from world famous vehicles to a huge variety of motoring objects in the Collections Centre which are a key resource for projects, research, exhibitions, and education programmes. In total, the Museum collections include approximately 180 cars and small commercial vehicles, 100 motorcycles, 50,000 motoring related objects, over 1.4 million photographic images and 24 cubic metres of motoring archive. The specialist Reference Library has over 310,000 individual items and the Film & Video Library holds 26,000 moving image and audio items. The NMM also has a trading operation which provides a Motoring Research & Enquiries Service receiving queries from across the globe, a Motoring Picture Library and Film & Video editing and transfer services. The NMM together with the Beaulieu attractions delivers an integrated education programme which maximises the benefit of the wider site and all its elements, holding the Sandford Award for Heritage education since this mark of recognition was conceived in 1978. The NMM attracts around 330,000 visitors each year from all parts of the country and abroad, though many are within ninety minutes’ drive-time and others may be on holiday in the New Forest and Bournemouth areas. The large events held onsite in a normal year also attract thousands of international visitors. The NMM also has an extensive online presence, with 96,000 visits to its website in 2020. In terms of social media, the NMM YouTube site had 93,000 views last year and Facebook reach was 466,000. NATIONAL MOTOR MUSEUM| CHIEF EXECUTIVE

SB Context The NMMT is currently working with Trustees, supporters, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders on an ambitious and transformational five-year plan for the NMM, which commences in 2021. It aims to revitalise the organisation, reassert its reputation for innovation and realise its true potential. The NMM marks its 50th anniversary in 2022 and this provides a launch pad to demonstrate new and imaginative ways of sharing the story of motoring through the collections. The subject specialism of the NMM can make connections in a way that others cannot - motoring is familiar and all around us, it affects the lives of almost everyone and shapes society. The changes taking place in the motor industry are the most fundamental since its beginnings in the late 19th century and offer an exciting opportunity for the NMM to showcase the past, present and future of motoring as a continuum. One of the first steps of the five-year plan is for the Trustees to appoint a dedicated Chief Executive to lead the NMM. The postholder will be responsible for contributing to and realising the ambitious strategic plan, leading 11 full time equivalent staff and some 60 volunteers, and working in partnership with the wider Beaulieu visitor attraction. This is a hugely exciting moment for the NMM as it reopens after Covid, invests in its own strategic leader, celebrates the last 50 years, and looks forward to the next 50.
