ICU Recovery Program: Addressing Post-Intensive Care Syndrome
Emily Schmitt, MOT, OTR/L
The interdisciplinary team continues to learn about the long-term sequellae of critical illness.
With this increased information, we continue to explore ways to prevent, identify, and treat these
issues, collectively known as post-intensive care syndrome. Practice guidelines for follow-up care
continue to be in development, but Post-ICU follow-up clinics are on the rise. What do follow-up
clinics do for patients? What does this mean for PT practitioners? How can we best help ICU
survivors with long term functional outcomes? How has COVID-19 changed the landscape of
Post-ICU follow-up? During this course, we will share current beliefs and information regarding
these questions and more.
