Highlights of 2019 Welcome to our AGM booklet, which contains a roundup of 2019, a preview of our future plans and details about how to vote at the AGM. I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage you to use your vote, because every member and every vote counts. I’m delighted to say Skipton Building Society had another good year in 2019. Both our mortgages and savings balances increased, despite a challenging market. That performance has allowed us to continue to provide long-term good value for our members in a low interest rate environment. In 2019, the average savings rate we paid was 0.54% higher than the rest of market average for banks and building societies*. Some of my personal highlights of the year include the launch of our app and our new financial advice proposition, which is designed to make financial advice accessible to more people. It’s fantastic that we won Best National Building Society at the What Mortgage Awards for the sixth year running too. I’m also proud that Skipton has joined a growing number of global organisations committed to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We’ve set ourselves some challenging targets and you can read more on pages 16-19. We’re on a financial advice mission Customer feedback showed that financial advice was often seen as only being for very wealthy people, so we’re on a mission to change that.
