History museum and the heritage development department in order to help the public discover the area in a different way.
LE MUSÉE D’ART ET D’HISTOIRE
Located in the former Hôtel Dupuy-d’Angeac,
the museum offers a set of collections based on
the history of the Cognac region, including local
archaeological collections and an astonishing
Neolithic pirogue. There is also a fine arts
section with collections from merchant families,
paintings from Saintonge, and collections of Art
Nouveau glassware including creations by Emile
Le Musée des arts du Cognac Gallé, Daum and René Lalique.

LA MAISON
DE LA LIEUTENANCE
La Maison de la Lieutenance is located at the
beginning of the rue Grande, the main axis of
the city from the Middle Ages until the middle of
the 19th century.
Of medieval origin, the building was rebuilt in
the 17th century. The carved wooden pieces,
visible on the façade, probably date back to the
15th century. The door flanked by pilasters as
well as the interior fittings (fireplaces, paintings)

IN A CHATEAU! Château Chesnel
A unique château in the region, thanks to its original
architecture.
The whole is a harmonious construction of outbuildings
and château that have remained intact since the first
stones were laid at the beginning of the 17th century.
The main part of the château is on two levels, flanked
by two wings at right angles and at the angles of the
quadrilateral are two massive square towers that are
topped by a parapet on strong cantilevers that mask
the roofs, decorated with crenellations that render this
imposing building particularly charming.
