                                                                                    Catlin explains that the Block III Super Hornet
                                                                                 is “designed to operate in and contribute to a net-
                                                                                 work-enabled battlespace.” The newer avionics
                                                                                 allow pilots to join a network with other aircraft
                                                                                 in a strike package. With shared information,
                                                                                 every airplane in the package has a better view
                                                                                 of what’s going on around them—improved “sit-
                                                                                 uational awareness,” in fighter pilot-speak. They
                                                                                 cooperate to eliminate enemy aircraft.
