All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible. -T.E. Lawrence 2

After graduating Penn State, Andy worked as a deckhand on the schooner WOODWIND in Annapolis and began doing offshore yact deliveries in 2007. Andy & Mia started 59º North in 2013 with the idea to share their passion for offshore sailing with like-minded people. Others are planning long-distance cruises on their own boats, so join us to get some ocean experience under their belts. Others still see it as a personal challenge, akin to climbing a mountain or running a race, and join us for the adventure of it. 5

OCEAN GLOBE RACE 2023 AROUND THE WORLD & IN RETRO STYLE! 59º North’s next and biggest challenge to date, where we’ll tackle the Southern Ocean, competing in a round-the-world race in a style that hasn’t been seen since the early days of the Whitbread - no GPS, celestial navigation by sextant, music on casette tapes, no modern tech, all human endurance. We’ll sail with 12 crew on each of the four legs - 4 of us ‘professionals’, plus eight paying crew. Of the paying crew, four will be along for the full circumnavigation, while we’ll reserve four spaces for ‘leggers’ who will switch at each stopover. We’re in the early stages of planning for the OGR and are currently selecting crew, seeking sponsors, volunteers, media support, fundraising and more. More details will be announced as we have them at 59-north.com/ogr 20
