Governor Mike DeWine Director Dorothy Pelanda State of Ohio Ohio Dept. of Agriculture a warm welcome On behalf of the leadership team of the Ohio Agricultural Council, it is my honor and privilege to welcome you to the 2021 Hall of Fame Breakfast, our 55th Celebration. After our hiatus last year, our celebration will no doubt be a little livelier, the handshakes and hugs will feel a little warmer, and today’s breakfast will taste a little bit sweeter. As we sit down to this delicious breakfast, remember the farmers in Ohio and across our great country who have dedicated their lives to producing safe, wholesome food to feed our communities. Each has built a legacy that will endure for generations to come. Thank you for joining us to share in the accomplishments of these eight outstanding individuals – a formal recognition much overdue for our 2020 inductees. While we certainly miss the hustle and bustle of the Midway here at the Ohio State Fair, I’m sure you, like me, are so glad to see the livestock trailers and exhibitors – particularly the Junior Fair participants – return to the fairgrounds this year. We continue to be grateful to the Ohio Expo Commission for their hospitality as we gather here to celebrate our industry together. Enjoy this morning’s fellowship and festivities! ohio agricultural hall of fame Created by the Ohio Agricultural Council in 1966, the Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame has now honored more than 230 agriculturists who have dedicated their lives of outstanding work to Ohio’s number-one industry, agriculture. Induction into the Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame is Ohio’s highest recognition of an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the agricultural industry. Each year up to four prominent agricultural leaders are honored and inducted into the Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame for their superior service, dedication, leadership and plentiful contributions to agriculture. NOMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS Persons wishing to nominate an individual who he or she believes is deserving of consideration for induction into the Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame may download a nomination form by visiting ohioagcouncil.org/hall-of-fame. Nomination forms, along with three letters of recommendation, must be submitted by March 15, 2022, in order to be eligible for consideration in 2022. Three to five members including a former inductee are asked to serve as the Hall of Fame selection committee. In order to retain a high degree of integrity, the identity of the members of the selection committee is kept in confidence and precautions are taken to avoid the possibility of an individual serving on the selection committee more than one time. 2021 HALL OF FAME EVENT PLANNING COMMITTEE Shelby Bradford Roger Nicol Matt Sullivan Jim Chakeres Mandi Shirley Janice Welsheimer Lyndsey Murphy Lynn Snyder Meghann Winters -9-

‘20 hall of fame inductee JOE CORNELY For more than 40 years, Joe Cornely dedicated his time to improving the agriculture industry through communication – cementing his name as a true guide and trusted news source for Ohio agriculture. Joe began his communication career at WKTN in Hardin County, serving local farmers through his broadcast. He later joined the WRFD radio stations, developing the station’s 90-minute mid-day farm program that reached 80 Ohio counties. In 1998, Cornely was hired as the director of media relations at the Ohio Farm Bureau. As the voice of OFB for more than 20 years, he made numerous contributions to the organization: helping to create the Our Ohio magazine, developing the radio program Town Hall Ohio, and launching OFB’s social media accounts. Known to always be the consummate professional in his various communication roles, Joe was often the spokesperson for agriculture to the general media, assisting them in understanding agriculture. He has received numerous recognitions and honors and is past president of the National Farm Broadcasters Association. ‘20 hall of fame inductee DR. TONY FORSHEY A mentor to future veterinarians and a champion of preventative measures, Dr. Tony Forshey made invaluable contributions to the betterment of the swine industry in his 27 years as a practicing veterinarian. The swine industry has grown significantly due to his focus on herd health and disease prevention, rather than simply treating sick animals. As an adjunct faculty member of the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Forshey mentored countless students, many of whom are now involved in Ohio agriculture as livestock producers or food animal veterinarians. After leaving his private practice in 2005, Dr. Forshey joined the Ohio Department of Agriculture as the Assistant State Veterinarian, later appointed the State Veterinarian and Chief of the Division of Animal Health. In this position, he is charged with protecting and promoting Ohio’s livestock and poultry industries. Through his leadership, Dr. Forshey has made significant investments in the betterment of the industry, most notably the creation of the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board – the most comprehensive livestock care standards in the U.S. Ohio Association of Meat Processors Congratulates the Ag Hall of Fame Inductees - 13 -

Gearhardt moves with ease from his small family farm, raising crops and livestock, to the Ohio Statehouse, lobbying on behalf of Ohio agriculture. He was an advocate of private property rights, battling government’s overuse of eminent domain and strengthening landowner rights through his time on Ohio’s eminent domain task force. Gearhardt is known for his willingness to listen and advise, no matter the situation: whether it is an intentional phone call or a casual conversation in the grocery store, diner or local sporting event. He has spent his career perpetuating the advancement of agricultural law and serving as an ambassador to the farming community, political arena and beyond. ‘20 hall of fame inductee WENDELL L. WATERS An untiring advocate for the agriculture industry, Wendell Waters has changed the face of Ohio agriculture through the sharing of his time and experience. Following a short term as the vocational agriculture teacher at Ridgewood Local Schools, Waters and his wife Marcia formed WenMar Farms, Inc., which today consists of 4,000 acres of corn and soybeans, and a 3,600-sow farrow to finish hog operation. Waters, with several other trailblazers, founded the Ohio Corn Growers in 1977, which he would serve for eleven years in many capacities, including president. He also advocated for the Ohio Corn Marketing Program, which was established in 1989 for the betterment of Ohio’s corn industry. Waters was instrumental in creating the PGI Group in 1994, a coalition of hog farmers that lowers costs through standardized genetics, jointly markets animals to increase market prices and shares best practices to continuously improve the hog industry. For more than 50 years, Waters has been a champion for Ohio farmers, ensuring the industry continues to thrive for years to come. Members of Ohio Corn & Wheat wish to Congratulate the 2020 and 2021 Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame Inductee Classes. We applaud each of you for your dedication to bettering Ohio’s agriculture community. We hope that your legacy serves to inspire future generations of Ohio agriculturists. ‘21 hall of fame inductee RANDY BROWN Passionate about promoting Ohio agriculture, Randy Brown has made a positive impact on the industry at the county, state and national levels. For 41 years, Brown has worked on his family’s farming operation, which includes a sow and farrow-to-finish swine operation, cattle, and 1,100 acres of cropland. Brown focuses his time on the swine operation, adapting to the ever- changing production methods in the swine industry - from raising pigs outdoors on dirt lots, to building modern, high-tech barns with controlled environments. From the early stages of his professional career, Brown has served on numerous committees and boards within agriculture, including Ohio Pork Council President and board member, Ohio Livestock Coalition member, National Pork Board member and more. ‘21 hall of fame inductee KEITH M. STIMPERT Over the course of his career, Keith Stimpert has demonstrated a dedication, passion and belief in farmers and the betterment of agriculture. As Executive Director of the Ohio Soybean Association, Stimpert was asked to take on the legislative and education priorities of the Ohio Soybean Association. With the creation of a national soybean checkoff established in 1991, Stimpert worked with farmer leaders to create an organization that would manage Ohio’s portion of the fund; ultimately taking the helm of the Ohio Soybean Council. In 2009, Stimpert was part of the leadership team that helped to pass Issue 2 and the creation of the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board, which is still functioning today. The livestock care standards board created a national model for addressing livestock care and avoiding costly ballot initiatives. Stimpert retired from Ohio Farm Bureau in 2020, but his legacy in Ohio’s agriculture industry is evident, manifesting through lasting legislation, association policies and statewide programs that continue to impact the industry today. Congratulations 2021 Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame inductees! Including Keith Stimpert, who led the Ohio Soybean Council and Ohio Soybean Association in promoting the soybean industry. - 25 -
