DESERT STAGES THEATRE SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA ACTOR'S CAFE PRODUCTION FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS Book by Alan Ball Directed by Deborah Lee Hall FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York
WELCOME Welcome to Desert Stages Theatre! Thank you for joining us at this per- formance of FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS! Congratulations to the cast and crew of this Actor's Cafe production for performances that range from comedic to heart-wrenching. The young women in the cast have embraced their roles and supported each other while addressing very sensitive subjects under the direction of Deborah Lee Hall. You are definitely in for an emotional wedding reception roller coaster ride! Kudos to Richard "Mickey" Courtney, Costume Designer, who created the titular "dress" for Desert Stages Theatre's production of this show - five times over! Ruffles...bows...floor-length...off-the-shoulder...bright orange...with outrageous shoes and hats to match! These women feel about their dresses the way they seem to feel about most of the men in their lives - they love to hate them! DST's COVID-19 safety protocols are changing - face masks are now optional instead of mandatory. If you wish to meet with your friends or cast members after the show, please arrange to do so in the food court area of the mall, so the lobby doesn't get congested. There will still be no large group gathering inside the DST lobby. Thank you for your patience as we continue to do our best to keep you, our actors, and our staff safe. Thank you again for your support of live theatre and for your attendance at this performance. Whether you are seeing your 100th show or your first at DST, you are a valued member of the Desert Stages Theatre com- munity, and we appreciate you more than you could ever know! Ellen Versen Walt Versen Executive Director Artistic Director
DIRECTOR'S LETTER "Standing Up" with your best friend or sister, or some other important person as they turn a corner in their lives and move on with their beloved, is a special life moment most people consider a great honor and privi- lege. Nevermind that the dress, shoes, makeup, and hair and attending various showers (and getting all those gifts) and perhaps even travel, can be extremely expensive, it's all about showing the love you have for your friend and the support you want to provide to the happy couple. Preparations for some weddings can take a couple of years, while some are a surprise, and happened within a couple of weeks or months, but all have various elements of drama, family conflict, and periods of self- reflection for all those who participate. Thank you for joining us as we witness the "behind the scenes" wedding day drama (and comedy) of these Five Women Wearing the Same Dress. Deborah Lee Hall Director

WHO'S WHO IN THE STAFF ELLEN VERSEN Executive Director Ellen is thrilled to be the Executive Director at Desert Stages Theatre. She has worked many years in the nonprofit and arts sectors, bringing years of theater leadership, development, and business experience to the position. Together with the DST team, she plans to welcome new artists, participants, pa- trons, and supporters into the Desert Stages The- atre family in an effort to sustain this performing arts organization for many years to come. Ellen is especially excited to be working with her hus- band Walt, DST's Artistic Director! Ellen grew up in Pasadena, CA, and has lived in Scottsdale for 26 years. She and Walt have two grown children, Joe and Emily. The entire family is fond of travel, the arts, and Jeopardy! Go, Irish! WALT VERSEN Artistic Director I have worked with and toured with Queen (w Fred- die Mercury), Heart, Cheap Trick, Scorpions, Super- tramp, Ratt, Peter Frampton, Genesis, Phil Collins, The GoGo's, dada, The Men, Right Said Fred, House of Lords, Charles and Eddie, The Escape Club, Julian Lennon, Tower of Power, REO Speedwagon and Ice Cube.
