300 Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Aug. 2018 – April 2019 Mission Statement At Spirit Path we serve with open hearts, promoting compassion and understanding towards every person. We care for the earth and honor the individual connection to nature. We give back to our communities by empowering people with the understanding of how to maintain health of the body and peace of mind. Course Overview Along with diving deeper into the practice and philosophy of Yoga, this program imparts the knowledge of Ayurveda; giving teachers an expanded understanding of subtle energetics, and how to that integrate Ayurveda into your life, yoga practice and teaching style. More than providing information, this program is designed to assist your growth professionally and personally as you advance in your personal practices, embrace your authentic teaching style, and create balance in your life. Together we will create a community dedicated to supporting each other as we undergo a deeply rich exploration of the practice and philosophy of Yoga. Yoga and Ayurveda are pre-Hindu philosophies and metaphysical sciences from the Indian sub-continent. These philosophies emphasize developing self- awareness (looking within) along with seeking knowledge (looking without) for personal growth. Indian mythology, manifestation of creation, reincarnation and karma will be discussed. Participants must be willing to explore these concepts in class and will be encouraged only to adopt practices that resonate with their inner feelings. All participants are expected to be respectful toward each other’s spiritual or religious beliefs. Emphasis will be placed on: • Foundations of Ayurveda • Integrating Yoga & Ayurveda Spirit Path Yoga and Wellness | 505 W Northern Lights Blvd, Anchorage AK 99503 www.spiritpathyoga.com | info@spiritpathyoga.com | ph. • Advanced Physical & Energetic Anatomy • Advanced Principles of Alignment • Artful Sequencing and Creative Expression • Teaching Yoga to Every Body • The Sanskrit Language • Intentional Living • Yoga as a Transformational Practice and becoming a Transformational Teacher This yoga teacher training is a registered program through the Yoga Alliance (YA) and AK State approved by the Alaska Commission on Post-Secondary Education. The course meets the YA standards for 300 Registered Yoga School (RYS). The training is designed to build upon and deepen the trainee’s understanding of the fundamental concepts of teaching yoga that are generally taught at the 200-hour level. It prepares its trainees to teach principles and techniques of yoga that are more advanced, more detailed, and subtler. The training enables them to teach with greater skill than could reasonably be expected of a RYT 200. As an advanced program it is designed for individuals who have already completed a 200-hour program OR have extensive experience practicing and/or teaching yoga. Upon completion of this program students achieve one of the three standards for becoming a 500 RYT with the Yoga Alliance. Yoga Alliance standards for 500 RYTs are as follows: 1. Complete a YA approved RYS 500, OR 2. Complete a YA approved RYS 200 AND a RYS 300. 3. Have at least 100 hours of teaching experience after completing a RYS 200 or 500. Location and Facility This program will be held at the Spirit Path Yoga and Wellness Center in Anchorage. Our main yoga classroom accommodates large classes and provides props. Our secondary room is used as a classroom and doubles as a second yoga room. Our store carries books, herbal products, and yoga supplies for convenience. There are integrative complimentary health care services offered in the facility. Physical Address: 505 W. Casandra is the center director of Spirit Path Yoga and Wellness. She received her Masters in Acupuncture in 2004 from TAI Sophia Institute. She is also an Ayurvedic Practitioner and Registered Yoga Teacher. She maintains a full time acupuncture practice at Spirit Path. Instructors Lead Instructors: The lead instructors, Amanda and Jule met in Anchorage as college students in 2007. Both new to Alaska, they found a connection through their love for nature and wilderness exploration. They grew close through remote backpacking, rafting, pack rafting, and skiing routes throughout Alaska. Both avid yogis, they would frequently take their practice outdoors; discovering Yoga's magic both on and off the mat. Together they have over 20 years of teaching Yoga and both have studied and practice Ayurveda. They love sharing with others how Yoga, Ayurveda and a connection to nature helps one tap into "their spiritual heart" or "true self." They are looking forward to sharing these with you; and building a positive learning community in this advanced 300 Yoga Teacher Training! Amanda Montavon, M.A, E-500 RYT, CAP: Amanda has over 17 years of experience coaching and teaching people of all ages, fitness levels and walks of life. She’s worked in the fitness industry as a swim coach, personal trainer and group fitness instructor. She started teaching Yoga 15 years ago as a certified Hatha instructor through FiTour. At first, she was purely interested in the physical benefits of Yoga. However, upon experiencing the subtler benefits of her practice she became intrigued by Yoga philosophy, energetic anatomy and holistic health. Since then she’s completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) in Multi-Style Yoga, a 500 hour YTT in Traditional Tantra Yoga from the Shri Kali Ashram in Goa India and several continuing education workshops. Growing up surfing and hiking in Northern California, she moved to Alaska to study the therapeutic benefits of outdoor recreation. She received a B.A. in Outdoor Studies from Alaska Pacific University, and upon graduating she worked in mental health as a wilderness guide/behavioral health technician, activity therapist and as a Yoga therapist. Her continued pursuit of Yoga eventually led her to the study of Ayurveda, and she completed the training required to meet the standards of the National Ayurveda Medical Association for Ayurveda Practitioners. In 2014, she taught her first 200 hour YTT program as a capstone project for her Masters of Arts. Her thesis was on holistic teaching methodology; implementing teaching methods that holistically support others along their own unique path of personal growth. Since then she has been the lead instructor for four 200 hour YTTs and one 300 hour YTT accredited by the Yoga Alliance. She works full time as the Director of Programs for Onward and Upward a non-profit School for Adventure Based Learning and Self Discovery based in Palmer, Alaska. The study and more importantly the practice of Yoga and Ayurveda continues to be an integral part of her continual personal development. Check out her website at www.alaskaayurveda.com and her Instagram: @nature_based_yoga Jule Harle, M.A, 500 RYT, AHC: Jule started regularly practicing Yoga in 2005 as a way to restore and strengthen her body; she enjoyed the connection of movement with breath along with the increased energy it gave her for Alaskan adventures. She was drawn to many styles: Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Bikram, Kundalini, Ashtanga- and drew insight from all of them. A few years later, she experienced some unfortunate life events (as we all do) that prompted some self-reflection and desire for change. In 2010 she traveled to India with aspirations of becoming a Yoga teacher and completed a 200 hour YTT in Spirit Path Yoga and Wellness | 505 W Northern Lights Blvd, Anchorage AK 99503 www.spiritpathyoga.com | info@spiritpathyoga.com | ph. Rishikiish. Living in an Ashram for 2 months immersed in a Yogic lifestyle helped shed light on her mental turmoil while Yoga’s subtler aspects were revealed. India called again in 2013; she returned back to the ashram lifestyle to complete a 300 hour advanced YTT with her same teachers. Again, she was impressed at how great her body felt, how still her mind was and how much peace she found with herself from a regular asana, mantra, pranayama and meditation routine. Deep in her practice one morning, she experienced the first of many “a-ha!” moments; feeling true peace, contentment, appreciation and understanding for everything around her. It was in that moment she thought, “I need to share this light with others!” Jule views herself as a lifelong learner- she sees everyone and everything as a teacher. She has a B.A. in Counseling Psychology from Alaska Pacific University and an M.A. from UAA in Counseling. She’s also an Ayurvedic Health Counselor graduate from Spirit Path and currently near completion of the Ayurvedic Practitioner Program; studying Yoga’s ‘sister science’ has helped her understand how both facilitate deep physical and mental healing while supporting growth in her yoga practice & teaching style. Jule is also a Mental Health Counselor, specializing in the integration of yoga, mindfulness, Ayurveda with DBT & CBT counseling techniques; she sees patients through Spirit Path’s clinic. In the spring & summer she leads yoga retreats and wilderness adventures throughout Alaska- “time in nature nourishes & restores the soul!” Check out her websites: www.ayurvedamindbody.org & www.alaskayogaadventures.com Visiting Instructors: Alex Hester RYT 200: Alex has been practicing yoga for eight years and completed a 200 hour Ayurvedic- Yoga teacher training through Alaska Pacific University under Amanda Montavon in 2014. He first discovered AcroYoga through a workshop during the training. He has been acroing, learning, and teaching Acro regularly ever since. He is an Acro Revolution certified instructor and has taught private lessons in seven countries including Central America, Europe, and Africa. As a world traveler and people lover, Alex loves the opportunities Acro has given him to meet, interact, and bond with strangers from vastly different places, cultures, and skill levels. His favorite part of AcroYoga is the way it teaches you about yourself and your partner; primarily trust, communication, and creativity. As neither an acrobat or the most competent yogi himself, Alex has found that people of all shapes, sizes, skill levels, and backgrounds can learn and benefit from Acro, especially if they're willing to laugh at themselves. Amanda Joy Lyon: Amanda is a Clinical Ayurveda Specialist, Pancha Karma Specialist, Sivananda Certified Yoga Instructor, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist, a 200 hr. Massage Therapist, Reiki Master/Teacher, and a student of advanced Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis. She has received national acclaim as a featured speaker at many conferences including the National Ayurvedic Medical Association Conference and the Northern California Women's Herbal Symposium.
