Stretching your dollars with Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) Set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible expenses by contributing to a Healthcare FSA (HCFSA) and/or Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA) through biweekly payroll deductions. IMPORTANT: You must actively enroll in these programs to participate — elections do not carry over from year to year. Keep in mind: • The HCFSA and DCFSA are two separate accounts. You cannot use funds from one account to pay expenses associated with the other. • You may change your annual contributions during the year if you experience a qualified status change such as marriage, divorce or the addition or loss of a dependent. • If you leave the company, you will forfeit any unused funds on your last day. • If you enroll in the PIH with HSA plan, you won’t be able to participate in an HCFSA since IRS rules state that you can’t contribute to both plans. This also applies if you have been enrolled in an HCFSA during the year through another company, including your spouse or partner’s employer. His goal is to contribute a little bit each paycheck and treat it like another retirement account so he has funds to pay for his medical costs when he gets older. Because the PIH with HSA has a higher deductible than the PIH with HRA or Navigate plans, he also enrolls in Accident Insurance, which will protect him financially by giving him a payout if he suffers an injury while surfing or mountain biking. Depending on the injury, he could receive a few thousand dollars. MEET LAYLA Layla is excited about welcoming their child and wants to ensure she has the right medical coverage. She elects the Navigate Network-Only Copay plan administered by UHC for herself and Mariah. She knows birth and delivery will result in higher medical costs, and she wants a plan that feels more predictable. She would rather pay a little more in premiums than the other plan options, but less at the time of care. Plus, the Navigate plan has low copays for Mariah’s generic medication. Layla plans to deliver their child in the coming year, so she elects Hospital Indemnity Insurance to receive a cash payout for her hospital stay ($1,000 per visit plus $100 per day). She Layla recently married her also chooses to purchase Supplemental Life Insurance; Layla long-term partner, Mariah, wants to make sure her family is taken care of financially. and moved into a high-rise downtown. Javier elects the PIH with HSA plan and contributes the full IRS maximum of $8,750 ($7,750 plus his $1,000 catch-up contribution). Aside from the tax advantages, he likes having the money set aside in case unexpected health issues come up. He also elects all three Supplemental Health Benefits: Accident Insurance ensures he has the funds to go visit his children should they get a sports injury, and Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity Insurance give him peace of mind in case he or his wife are faced with an unexpected health issue. Finally, Javier takes advantage of Caregiving Support through Clorox’s partnership with Helpr to make sure his mother has the care she needs while he is at work. page 18
