Rider Accreditation At registration, each rider will receive a number plate and jersey bib which must be worn at all times whilst on course. Timing There will be a timing system used at the start line to record the time start and finish the course. There will also be a timing point at the half way point on the course to track where riders are. Should a rider decide to pull out of the ride or should they not make the time for each cut off point, they are encouraged to take the SAG bus back to the finish line. If a rider decides to continue outside of the cut off times, they are no longer apart of the event and they ride at their own risk. Late Starts Any rider who cannot make his/her start wave must report to the Registration tent within 5 minutes after the last wave start time to request approval for a late start. No rider is allowed to start late without approval. If no approval for a late start is given, the rider will be considered a DNS. Wrong Turns The Fraser Coast Gran Fondo course is clearly marked with directional signage. Ensure you read the course map before participating, follow course directions as much as possible and look out for course marshals, traffic controllers and QLD Police who are assisting with the event. Curfew Times The Fraser Coast Gran Fondo is built for the everyday rider looking to challenge themselves. As a result, the aim is to keep everyone riding for as long as possible. There however is an obligation to rider safety throughout the course. Therefore, there will be 5 curfew cut off points that riders must pass by certain times, otherwise riders will be asked to hop on the SAG bus or continue riding at their own risk. The curfew times are based on an average speed of 19 – 20km/hr with the aim to have all riders finish within 6.5 hours. Rider Etiquette Riders are to be reported to the Event Director if they: Disobey road rules; Be rude or disrespectful to other riders or marshals; Who behave in a way that puts any rider or marshal in danger; Is reported to litter on course; Fraser Coast Gran Fondo believes in the honest and supportive culture of road cycling and holds the safety of our riders a priority. If you stop to assist in a rider with a mechanical or injury, please report to HQ. Health and Safety Whilst there is a portion of the course that is fully closed, the majority of it will have live traffic, meaning road rules will apply. Riders must NOT ride in a bunch on the road or take over the lane. It is important to understand that while traffic management is in place, roads remain open to vehicles. Riders must always give way to cars. Riders who have medical conditions (eg Asthma) must carry their own medication for the duration of the event. All riders should carry enough food, water, basic first aid and a tool kit in their daily ride kit. There will be basic feed stations on the course to allow riders to adequately rest and refuel. Withdrawing from the Ride Should a rider decide to withdraw from the ride, they must notify official vehicles roaming the course, who will then communicate to the SAG vehicle to come and pick up the rider. As mentioned previously, should a rider fail to meet the curfew times, they will be offered transport back to Seafront Oval or they are free to continue riding at their own risk. Awards and Prizes The Fraser Coast Gran Fondo is a non-competitive ‘ride’ meaning there will be no prizes handed out for the podium finishers. There however will be multiple ‘fun’ prizes handed out for participants on the day. 8|Page

THE GRAN FONDO DOWNLOAD THE COURSE HERE Riders will begin their day by arriving nice and early at Seafront Oval for a big day of riding. Whether you are in the Gran Fondo or Medio distance, be sure to fill up your bidons with some enIQ hydration and stock up on energy bars and gels at the Winners Bar tent. The team at Giant will also be at Seafront Oval to help with any mechanical needs that need tweaking. As you are marshalled into your designated wave, make sure you listen out for the final briefing from the event staff. Once you are on the course, you will be directed around by event signage, so make sure you keep an eye out for directions and cautions along the way. The whole Esplanade through Hervey Bay will be fully closed, this will be for a 6km stretch until the course turns right onto Pier Street where it will become an open road with live traffic. The course itself will have traffic controllers at high density intersections, so ensure you abide by traffic rules as stated in the course briefing. As you ride out of town towards River Heads, be sure to utilise the shoulder as much as possible. In some cases, the shoulder will tighten, so it is fundamental all riders stay single file unless overtaking. Being a Saturday morning, cars will be frequenting this road as they head over to Fraser Island on the barge ship. You will be faced with a few short climbs to test your legs early, so push hard and be alert in your descents. As you come to the end of River Heads road, you will be directed into the car park where you will have your first feed station, as you descent, be mindful of several parked cars and vehicles coming off the barge ship. You will be directed to turn right to the first feed station, make sure you stop by, take in the sensational view of Fraser Island, rehydrate and refuel for the next leg of the course. 17 | P a g e
THE MEDIO DOWNLOAD THE COURSE HERE After leaving the first feed station, riders will head back on River Heads Roads towards their next challenge. As you are riding, be aware there are cyclists heading in the other direction on the other side of the road. This is the only stage of the course where there is two way traffic for both motorists and cyclists, so ensure you are alert throughout this part of the course. As you turn onto Bingham road, you will notice the landscape change, take in the views and enjoy the quiet country road. You will be instructed to turn onto Booral road which will have a traffic control presence as this is one of the busier roads on the course. Be sure to follow their directions, keep left and signal when turning. The Nikenbah region will again test the legs, throwing in a few nice 2-3% climbs, followed by Ghost Hill which will require a short burst of energy to conquer. You will then ride up and down Christenson street and descend down Woods road. Ensure you follow road rules on Woods road as you will be passing by the Sports precinct where many cars will be coming to and from Saturday sport. As you re-enter Booral Road, be wary of the tight shoulder and the large Highway 57 intersection approaching. At this intersection, there will be a police presence who will assist with riders passing by. Riders are to go straight through the roundabout and head towards Takura. Along the way to Takura, you will pass by the next feed station, again, make sure you stop to refuel, rest and rehydrate as you are approximately half way through the course. The ride on this part of the course again displays the wonderful changing landscape of the Fraser Coast region, from the beautiful blue seas to the green country landscape. As you enter Torbanlea, there again will be a police presence to help manage the roads with riders coming through. Here you will have your last chance to stop at a feed station, so be sure to stock up as you are approximately 50kms to the finish line. Riders will cycle through Burrum Town and take a sharp right towards Toogom. The roads are again quite busy on this stretch as riders make their way back towards the finish line. In this area there are two to 18 | P a g e
three sets of traffic lights that riders will need to abide by, ensure you follow road rules where necessary. As riders approach Eli Waters, they will meet the busiest intersection on the course with a set of shops on the left-hand side of the road. Whilst police presence will be in the area, riders must ensure they are alert and abiding by road rules. The final stretch of the course through the Point Vernon area is truly spectacular. The roads are much more residential, so look out for any vehicles exiting their driveways. As riders head back into Seafront Oval, they will be directed to the finish line (same as the start line). Please follow traffic controllers’ directions as there is a dense number of vehicles in the area . 19 | P a g e
ON COURSE FEED STATIONS – The course will see the below feed stations which will have eniQ electrolyte, water, Winners bars and bananas for riders. Gran Fondo Medio Feed 1 River Heads turnaround - 27KM Feed 2 Takura - 65KM Takura - 44KM Feed 3 Torbanlea State School - 79KM Feed 4 Toogoom - 67KM DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE ON COURSE – The course directional signage will be red arrows. ACCIDENTS ON COURSE – If a rider in front of you crashes, this is not an opportunity to pass! Please stop immediately and ask if they need assistance. The first rider on the scene should remain with the rider, if the rider requires medical assistance the second rider on the scene is to remember the rider number and move forward to the next marshal check point with a radio. This will allow for medical assistance to be called and first aid to respond. We highly recommend that all riders hold valid private health insurance with Ambulance Cover. QLD Ambulance transport is cost otherwise. THE MEDAL We’ve got the goods for you as you cross the line! Check out the medal design! 20 | P a g e
