PCOA During the Pandemic Accessing Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic Due to the ongoing pandemic, many resources listed in this guide have temporarily changed their operating hours, locations and guidelines. We strongly suggest making contact by phone or email or checking websites for updated information before visiting any physical service location. This is true for PCOA’s services, as well. While we have continued to provide most services in some format throughout the pandemic, we encourage you to call our Helpline at (520) 790-7262 or email help@pcoa.org to determine how we can best assist you. You can also visit our website pcoa.org for up-to-date information about how to access our services, including classes and events being offered remotely. PCOA has developed a plan for which facilities and services will resume in-person service based on data about the level of COVID-19 spread in our community. Our goal is always to ensure the greatest access to services possible to those who need our help most. Throughout the pandemic, PCOA never stopped serving the public, and as we bring back in-person services, we remain committed to continuing to offer assistance in a variety of formats to meet the needs of older adults. A New Addition to PCOA’s Programming – The CareGiver Training Institute In April 2020, PCOA greatly expanded our impact in the area of direct care workforce development by bringing the CareGiver Training Institute (CGTI) into the PCOA family of nonprofit companies as a subsidiary organization. Since opening its doors nearly 20 years ago, the CareGiver Training Institute (CGTI) has educated and provided career coaching and job placement support to over 3,600 students who have made a difference in the lives of more than 250,000 people in southern Arizona. CGTI offers classes to become certified nursing assistants, certified caregivers, and assistant living managers. Frontline healthcare workers will remain in high demand for decades to come due to Arizona’s increasing older adult population. According to AARP, 10,000 Americans across the country turn 65 every day and will require the skilled care and support of trained healthcare professionals. Together, PCOA and the CareGiver Training Institute are working to train members of our community in meaningful, stable careers to address this growing need. To learn more about training opportunities, call (520) 325-4870, email learnmore@cgtiaz.org, or visit cgtiaz.org. Pima Council on Aging Guide to Services | Page 1 (520) 790-7262 pcoa.org
