2021 ELECTION VOTER GUIDE
SOCRA sincerely appreciates the consideration given to the candidates
regarding their nomination as officers and directors of the Society. Please
review the candidate profiles included within the following pages.
Duties of President: The President shall preside over all meetings, in general, supervise all of the affairs of the
corporation, may sign documents required to be signed for the Board, serve as an ex-officio
member of all committees, and have such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board.
The President will serve as the primary staff or management company liaison.
Duties of Treasurer: The Treasurer shall supervise custody and be responsible for all funds and securities of the
corporation. The Treasurer shall oversee the disbursement of the funds of the corporation
in payment of just demands against the corporation or as may be ordered by the Board of
Directors. The Treasurer shall provide, upon request of the Board, an account of all actions
taken as Treasurer and the financial condition of the corporation. The Treasurer shall perform
all other duties pertaining to this office or which are properly required by the Board of
Directors.
Duties of Director: Directors provide representation, support, oversight and development for the membership
of the Society. Membership on the SOCRA Board of Directors is intended to offer the society
oversight and leadership based on the individual’s experience in clinical research and based
on their expertise in healthcare.
Board members are asked:
• To contribute their experience and expertise to discussions related to issues important to the clinical research
community that would enhance SOCRA’s educational programming
• To encourage and develop relationships with organizations that may contribute to SOCRA’s educational programming
through educational grants
• To encourage potential sponsors and contributors to support our publications and exhibit at our conferences
• To develop membership through contacts and presentations to the healthcare community
• To volunteer to participate in SOCRA’s educational programming as a speaker, session chairperson or program
chairperson in order to utilize their expertise to further the mission of the Society

Vision Statement:
As a current member of the SOCRA Board of Directors, I have gained resourceful insight into the workings of our important and useful Society – for this, I am very
grateful. It has been a sincere honor to lead with such esteemed research professionals and leaders from across the globe during an international pandemic. Through
leadership and partnership, education and mentorship, within both in-person and virtual spaces, I hope to guide our board in conveying this expertise and knowledge
to expand our research-related information. By building equity in research, educating and serving others, and providing top-notch regulatory content, we can be
successful in promoting quality clinical research, protecting the welfare of research participants, and improving global health. Times have changed, dear friends, but
we can do this together by supporting, utilizing, and enhancing SOCRA’s exceptional education, certification, and professional information exchange. Becoming the
President-Elect of our Board of Directors will allow me to further serve our board and overall membership. By fostering professional development and peer recognition

We have seen research professionals furloughed and programs halted during the COVID restrictions, having profound impact on our members’ lives. The Treasurer position on the SOCRA board will have an important and singular mission, to serve as the custodian of SOCRA’s financial assets and maintain its strong financial position, during these changing times. As Treasurer, I would strive to ensure SOCRA’s financial stability is maintained. I am honored to be nominated for Treasurer and to contribute my experience as both a SOCRA Board Director and Research Manager to fulfill the responsibilities of this role. As a Senior Research Manager at the Indiana University Center for Aging Research, I oversee and manage multiple grant awards and budgets, including a $30.3 million, 8 year grant from Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services program. Because of these experiences, I have honed skills essential for the Treasurer role, including budget and fiscal management and thorough attention to financial details. Transparency and timely communication with SOCRA management will also be vital components I foresee in this role. In my more than 10 years as a member, SOCRA has been an invaluable source of education, networking, and excellence for me to grow as a research professional. I am excited for the opportunity to continue to serve SOCRA, the premier research professional organization, and for future generations of research professionals to benefit from SOCRA’s work, as I have. Vision Statement:
Having had the pleasure of serving as a Director on the SOCRA Board, I have gained a new-found appreciation for the work that is done by both the
organization and its membership. SOCRA has served as an unwavering and dedicated organization that has provided us with education and professional
development even during these trying times. Our membership has been steadfast and dedicated to solving our world’s most pressing issue and continues
to persevering even under exceptional circumstances. I find inspiration by so many of you through the experiences you share at our events. You serve as
an admirable example of professionalism for the next generation of clinical research professionals. However, you are all aware that maintaining a robust
and healthy financial outlook is critical to ensuring the ongoing success of SOCRA. Having a strong and stable financial position will ensure that SOCRA can

Vision Statement
As a clinical researcher for over 20 years and a certified member of SoCRA for over 18 years, I have acquired an abundance of experience, knowledge,
and best practices from colleagues all over the globe. My disciplines in Hematology/Oncology; Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and
Metabolism; Ophthalmology; Gastroenterology; and Neurology at public and private institutions, small and large, have given me a great appreciation
for the scope and breadth of expertise across all phases of trials, 0-IV (yes, 0 when it was “go!” or “no-go!”). Whether academic, government, nonprofit
or for-profit, the principles are similar in the operations. My firsthand involvement with investigator-initiated trials, co-operative, consortium, network
and industry- sponsored trials have presented me opportunities to share my experiences through networking with others through local chapter
meetings that I have run and presented, speaking occasions and teaching assignments.
As a member of the Board of Directors, I would contribute to the SOCRA mission by 1- encouraging certification and recertification in clinical research,
2- inspiring colleagues to courageously educate others through networking and 3- identifying potential gaps in this industry in order to close them
through education. Gaps may be the diversity and inclusion gap that is so needed in this industry across ethnicity and gender in the 21st century, or
the technology gap where paper and electronics still continue to collide. I want to empower and enlighten professionals of all races to bring their best
learned hard skills, along with their personal soft skills to the table and share with one another. It is then that science and research will bring out the
best that medicine has to offer for all of mankind!

Vision Statement
Since 2007, SOCRA has provided me with vitally important career building educational opportunities which has greatly contributed to my professional career
accomplishments. For this reason, I am committed to being of service to my fellow clinical research colleagues in their respective achievements. In my
eight-year tenure as Chairperson of the Houston Galveston SOCRA Chapter, I have developed and implemented relevant career building and professional

Clinical research has evolved over that time and, as the COVID-19 pandemic has shown, clinical research professionals must be able to adapt to the changing landscape of research. Education is key to helping clinical research professionals keep up to date on changes in regulations, moving into new areas such as electronic informed consent and documentation, and keeping participants safe while ethically collecting the data needed to answer research questions. SOCRA programs offered at both national and local levels contribute greatly to the training, mentoring, and supporting of clinical research professionals not only now, during the pandemic, but also during the career of each individual research professional. I have worked with a small, but dedicated, Education Committee in the Nashville Chapter to bring continuing education and professional networking opportunities to members in our region, while growing our chapter and continuing to look for ways to connect to distant members. Having remote access in place helped us rapidly adapt our procedures to not only continue offering continuing education safely and securely in the time of COVID-19, but also increase the number of sessions offered. When the restrictions lift, we plan to continue offering remote webinar meetings as well as resume in-person meetings for networking. We are proud of our Chapter, its continued growth, and being the recipient of the Chapter Chairperson Award for the past two years. Change is inevitable, but we can embrace change. My experience in research spans basic science, animal studies, clinical research, and research administration. SoCRA has helped me increase my knowledge, develop leadership skills, and network locally, nationally, and internationally. Utilizing my experiences in the Nashville chapter and in pre-clinical and clinical research, I hope to contribute to the forward thinking of the board—helping our membership to learn, adapt, and thrive in clinical research. My vision includes contributing to SOCRA’s continued growth in education and certification as a leader in clinical research professional organizations.
