University Transfer Program In the University Transfer Program, students are able to explore their academic interests through first and second-year courses which may be transferred to colleges/universities for admission to the second or third year of a Bachelor’s Degree program. Transfer Across British Columbia Alexander College is a member of the British Columbia Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) system and has established transfer agreements with colleges and universities across British Columbia, including the most prestigious universities in the province. Associate Degree Programs The Associate Degree program is a foundational degree consisting of 60-64 credits, typically completed over a 2-year period. The program provides a comprehensive learning experience that also allows students to customize and focus their coursework in an area of personal interest. Options After Graduation On completion of an Associate Degree program, students may choose to either enter the workforce or continue their studies in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree. Post Graduation Work Permit International students completing an Associate Degree program may be eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (visit www.cic.gc.ca for details). English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program is a preparatory program designed to develop core English language skills within a post-secondary context. The courses are designed to develop students’ academic study and participation skills, while improving their English skills to a level that will lead to success in university courses. EAP Levels and Duration The EAP program consists of two levels, ENGL 098 and ENGL 099, each focusing on language learning through academic subjects such as Film Studies, History, Literature, Philosophy, Science, and Sociology. Each EAP level has a duration of 14 weeks, comprised of 10-15 hours of study per week. University Pathway Students who intend to pursue post-secondary studies in Canada may also begin to enrol for college/university-level courses while enrolled in the EAP program. English as a Second Language Program The AC ESL program offers a student-centered and interactive approach to English language acquisition. The program has been designed for beginner to intermediate- level students, and replaces the lower levels (ENGL 095-097) of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. Our Curriculum The AC ESL curriculum was developed by starting with the fundamental learning outcomes and working backwards, bringing the English language to life through the creation of an Building Confidence interactive learning experience. Student Association Alexander College’s Student Association (ACSA) is a group of students united by a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of other students. As a member of ACSA, students have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and play an integral role in the enhancement of student life at AC. ACSA volunteer experience may be beneficial when applying for further study and career opportunities. Be a Student Worker at AC Alexander College wants to provide our students with many opportunities to succeed as a college student, and one way is working as a student worker at AC. Student workers gain valuable work experience while studying full-time. This is great for a student’s personal growth and can be helpful in building a strong resume. With the flexibility of student’s work and school schedule, students can manage a balanced lifestyle between school, work and friends. Plus, students will be able to connect with many of our AC staff.
