The history is still alive with its 19th Century sandstone warehouses that now serve as cafes, restaurants and artists’ studios. Quaint cottages and colonial mansions are all over the small city. There is the backdrop of Mount Wellington rising above the city and the River Derwent racing through its heart. Get a dash of history by wandering around the historic harbour, Battery Point, and Salamanca. The incredible MONA is only a ferry boat ride away from Constitution Dock. The famous Saturday Salamanca Market has the reputation as one of Australia’s best markets. Set in picturesque Salamanca Place, it’s essentially one walkable area of vendors selling their wares, buskers performing and yummy street food. Tasmanians enjoy a wonderful and relaxed lifestyle. Most people can afford to choose to live a short distance from their work, leaving time to do more important things than sit in peak-hour traffic.
