Nazism and Fascism have defined our picture of what controlled Hitler’s Germany. But newly revealed
documentation shows, the marching storm troopers were driven by more than simple ideology. The Nazi
leadership’s vow to clean up the reputedly indulgent and pleasure-soaked culture of the Weimar Republic
— constantly coded as “Jewish” — was infiltrated by the new exotic substances provided by German drug
companies. Heroin. Meth-amphetamine. Cocaine. The age old problem of substance abuse permeated all
of the Third Reich, sometimes being ordered upon the troops. Come hear and discuss the story of the
Nazi Germany’s drug addiction.

Laughter Yoga is a unique concept based on the philosophy of "acting happiness"....tell your body what to
do and your mind will follow. Laughter yoga embodies a series of simple, yet structured laughter and yoga
breathing techniques, combined with simple stretching. No prior yoga experience is necessary; a
willingness to laugh is all you need. At Laughter Yoga you will decrease stress, strengthen the immune
system, and increase endorphin's, the "feel good" chemicals in the brain.

 Anniversary Perspective
“History doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme,” Mark Twain
One hundred years ago, the Victorian age dissolved into the 1920s. World War I had ended and the idea
of a modern reality changed employment, sexuality, literature, perceived necessities, and even our
concept of crime. In this hour we look at how the 1920s changed America, transformed how we see
ourselves, and made generations almost unrecognizable to each other. Is 2020 presenting us with an
equally revolutionary transfiguration? Come discuss the lessons from the past and present in this
interesting historical hour.

      Intelligence
“The arrival of superhuman machine intelligence will be the biggest event in human history. The world’s
great powers are finally waking up to this fact, and the world’s largest corporations have known it for
some time,” Dr. Stuart Russell, professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley.

In 1997, IBM’s Big Blue defeated the world’s greatest chess master using artificial intelligence. In
2017, Alpha Zero, the game-playing AI created by Deep Mind beat the world’s best chess-playing computer
program, having taught itself how to play in under four hours. And now when you start to write a cell
phone text, your phone might suggest how to finish a sentence for you. We can no longer separate
ourselves from artificial intelligence, but for this hour we need to look at what is happening and how
reality has shifted.

  the Dog and the Wolf
What pet is more beloved than a dog or species more feared than the wolf? Dogs and wolves are so
closely related that DNA analysis cannot distinguish a wolf from a dog or a wolfdog hybrid. It is assumed
scientifically, all dog breeds started as varieties of wolves. For dogs, humans form their social group. In the
United States, the wolf is now an endangered species, having been despised and hunted because of its
attacks on livestock and fear of its destructive nature. In this hour we look a humanities shared history
with the dog and wolf.

“Earth is a solar powered juke box,” Gordon Hempton.
Every place has a sound. What we call “silence” is the many layers of the echoes of what fills the world we
navigate. The “quiet” we hear in a forest is the presence of time, undisturbed. But the modern world
drowns out natural sound. Jarring sound can even be used as a military weapon. This hour we consider
the science and history of sound and celebrate the power and beauty of “silence”-nature’s real voice.

to ask: “Don’t people habitually do a lot of things which aren’t that smart?” This simple question changed
psychology and Langer’s work on it made her an authority on the differences between mindfulness and
mindlessness. Several of Langer’s experiments prove how the seemingly simple act of focusing on the
present moment improves health, happiness, and longevity. Come discover how being mindful can
transform your life.

games outside until the hours stretch into double digits. We have cities throughout the world which never

darkness.

               Dennis (Denny) Brunner Wood Working

Making useful and decorative wooden items for family and friends has been a passion for Denny since he
was a young adult. Denny spent 36 years at General Motors as a Mechanical Engineer designing “car
parts”, while woodworking in his spare time. After retiring in the fall of 2008, he was asked to
demonstrate his woodworking skills at a local senior living center. Believing that a “hands-on” approach is
better than just watching a demonstration, he developed a project for the participants to build under his
supervision. That was the beginning of ArborArt Workshops.

Since March of 2009, ArborArt has been conducting workshops for 4-H groups, schools, senior centers,
scout troops, recreation departments and libraries on weekly, monthly or one-time bases. Each session
has been created to give participants the opportunity to build useful items from wood, using a variety of
skills in assembling, sanding, drilling, nailing, gluing, staining and finishing.

until she was able to retire. Now, with over twenty years of experience as an artist, Diana has perfected
her own unique style of teaching, using common color schemes and specific size canvas to create beautiful

see their final product, she believes everyone has talent and bringing that talent forth brings a happiness
