2020 2020 2020 Same Job, Same SameJob, Job, 2020VISION Same Pay, Same Fight Same SamePay, Same Pay, SameFight Fight 2020VISION INDUSTRY CLAIM ON CLIENTS: WHAT IS IT? SAME JOB/SAME PAY/SAME FIGHT We know our industry is in crisis. We know the enterprise bargaining system is broken. Those companies paying good rates are losing contracts, and those companies that pay workers unsafe and unfairly low rates are winning work. The only winner is the client at the top of the supply chain. Thousands of transport workers across Australia, like you, have now endorsed a plan to fight back and reset the transport industry. This is the 2020 plan - Same Job: Same Pay: Same Fight. TWU members have resolved that it shouldn’t matter which transport company you work for; if you do the same work, you should get the same pay and conditions. You should get a union rate of pay, with the same safe and fair conditions, like we used to have in the transport industry. WHAT HAPPENS NOW? Now that the plan has been voted up by members at yard meetings across the country, the next step is for sites to endorse the client claim. If endorsed, the following claim will be served on over 120 of the largest clients across the country from every sector (retailers, Federal, State and Local Delegates endorse the 2020 Governments, manufacturers, mining, oil, claim at Delegates Conference fuel and gas companies, banks, airports etc). We will be writing to clients demanding they fund union rates in all their contracts. One by one, we will strategically take on clients and sectors to bring them to the table to lift standards in their supply chains. WHAT IS THE PROPOSED CLAIM? To endorse the claim, sign the DEMAND: WHAT WE ARE FIGHTING FOR IN OUR SECTOR: “Industry claim on clients” petition. Industry rates We demand the undercutting stops. We should get the same pay for doing the same job. We demand that all transport workers get paid an industry rate – a rate equal to the highest paying transport company in our sector. 15% To ensure dignity in retirement we demand all transport workers get a minimum of 15% superannuation superannuation. Job security We demand secure, permanent, directly employed jobs as well as site rates and cost recovery for owner drivers. We demand fair redundancy provisions, full utilisation and maximum 14-day payment periods. Workplace To ensure we have a strong voice, we demand fair dispute and consultation provisions as rights and well as union and delegates rights and protections. consultation Industry To improve and protect the sustainability of our industry, we demand support for fair sustainability legislation, a transport watchdog and contributions to an industry fund (TEACHO). 2020 2020 Same Job, Same Job, DELEGATESCONFERENCE Same Pay, Same Fight Same Pay, Same Fight DELEGATESCONFERENCE There are changes occurring across the whole transport industry. More casual workers are being employed, full time work is harder to find, a boss somewhere is attacking pay and conditions, wage theft is rampant. The need for a safer and fairer transport industry has never been more urgent. Every year the TWU Delegates Conference brings together members from across the transport sector in NSW. This year Conference Delegates endorsed a plan to fight back and reset the transport industry. They have taken a stand for the 2020 plan - Same Job: Same Pay: Same Fight. Delegates at our Conference tell me that they are encouraged to hear how TWU members are standing together in their workplaces and winning the fight against bosses who want to take conditions away. They have hope for the future. TWU members resolved that it shouldn’t matter which transport company you work for; if you do the same work, you should get the same pay and conditions. You should get a union rate of pay, with the same safe and fair conditions, like we used to have in the transport industry. 2020 2020 Same Job, Same Job, DELEGATESCONFERENCE Same Pay, Same Fight Same Pay, Same Fight DELEGATESCONFERENCE The 2019 Delegates Conference took the 2020 message to ALDI. Transport workers are angry, active and determined to turn this industry around. We want the same pay for the same job, secure work and safety to be a priority. We’ll achieve it by holding wealthy companies like ALDI and airports at the top of supply chains to account. Every year people are dying on our roads because “Supply chains like ALDI’s are killing people and clients like ALDI, those at the top of our supply chains in transport and aviation, need to be held to account.” That’s according to TWU National Secretary Michael Kaine. Australian Senators, Tony Sheldon and Glenn Sterle, former transport workers attended the rally. Glenn Sterle told the members “People like this mob here ALDI, all they care about at the end of the day is TAKING ACTION ON ALDI corporate profit and greed. We need to stand strong and take this message back to Canberra, back to our elected officials, our industry is facing a crisis.” Tony Sheldon said “2020 is about screwing the ones that matter, it’s to say to ALDI and those airport owners that Transport Worker families, our workmates and this community are a damned sight more important than them.” 10 | TWUNEWS SPRING 2019 FACEBOOK.COM/TWUNSW TWUNSW.ORG.AU TWUNSW.ORG.AU FACEBOOK.COM/TWUNSW TWUNEWS SPRING 2019 | 11

In presenting the lifetime membership, TWU NSW President, Tony Matthews told the delegates, “Tony Sheldon always had time for everyone and it is only fitting that we recognise the contribution Tony has made to the TWU”.
