Cactus Man Entrant: Mateo Perez Quilt Club: Friendship Category: Youth, age 11 Title: Cactus Man Pattern Source: original by Mateo Perez Made By: Mateo Perez , Mentor: Paula Straw Quilting: This piece was interrupted with Covid-19: Quilting pending. Size: I love playing Minecraft, and I thought it would be fun to make a quilt of Cactus Man. Paula helped me draw the pattern on graph paper, color it, then cut the pieces with fabrics. I really liked using the rotary cutter; Paula was worried! There were no trips to the hospital, and my mom is proud of me. We have not been able to finish it because of the virus. But that is OK, because somedays I would rather go fishing with Paula and John than quilt.

It was a real experience in Stop and Go....GO!.. all the blocks together. STOP! no batting, no backing. Wait for the on-line order during a pandemic...GO! Layers complete and on to quilting: I used a walking foot, and GO GO GO down a line, Stop, turn, then GO, GO, GO down another line. It was a fast, fun, and freeing quilting experience. Hope you enjoy the dynamic lines.

A Walk in the Mountains Entrant: Sue Hillhouse Title: A Walk in the Mountains Technique: Photography, Photoshop, Fusible appliqué, Thread Painting, Machine and hand quilting Pattern: Original design Over the years of living in the mountains of Colorado, we have hiked many miles and I’ve taken many pictures of the wonderful alpine wildflowers. After photographing my favorite flowers, I used Photoshop – Posturize to simplify the image, then translate those color values into the colors of the flower images, and use fusible webbing to adhere those pieces on to the background. The final step is to highlight the small details of the flower with machine stitching using rayon thread. This quilt has a lot of meaning for me. NFS!!!
Indian Summer Table Runner Entrant: Cheryl Yergler Title: Indian Summer Table Runner Pattern: Brenda Henning Technique: Bias Tape stained glass This project was at one time someone from Friendships’ UFO. I found it and the book on the free table. I took it home where it became my UFO. I finished it while on Safer at Home. I have made many Bias Tape stained glass projects I enjoy how they look.
Love is in the Air Love is in the Air Appliquéd and quilted by Carolyn Ray My inspiration to do this came from a class with Karen Kay Buckley a year ago in Durango. Bought the pattern and during the months of self-isolation thought it was a good time to finish it. Love the bright colors. It makes me think of a Mexican tile. Pattern by Karen Kay Buckley, Flowering Heart
Silver Star Silver Star Origami folding and quilting by Carolyn Ray The Origami instruction came from a pattern from Creative Grids. I enjoy origami using paper so decided to try it with fabric. The original was just a wreath. I added the points to make it a star. Quilted with silver metallic thread.
Neighborly Snowmen Neighborly Snowmen Hand embroidery, piecing and quilting by Carolyn Ray Pattern for embroidery is from Bird Brain Designs, Yard of Snowmen Table Runner. I love winter so thought this would be a good winter project. Well it took longer than winter, but I enjoyed it the full time. It used 3 full skeins of blue embroidery floss.
Sea Life Sea Life Pattern by Aloha Quilt Designs, KAI Reverse Appliqué, Sashiko , beaded embellishments and quilting by Carolyn Ray I took a class to improve my reverse appliqué skills and this was started at that time. Another UFO that has been finished. The background needed something to make it look more like the see life where swimming, so I added the Sashiko and beads for bubbles.
All Hallows Eve All Hallows Eve Wool appliqué by Carolyn Ray Pattern is All Hallows Eve by Laura Pedge This was started as my first wool appliqué, and at some point, got put away for a long sleep. Loved getting it finished and out of my pile of UFOs (unfinished objects).

The strips were all from scraps of quilts and other gifts that I have made for many dear people Over the years, a fun trip down memory lane. I love the modern look of it, and the simple (looking!) quilting.
Twinkle Star Entrant: Jan Edwards Title: Twinkle Star Pattern: Modern Patchwork Magazine, 2012 Technique: Hand quilted This is a wall hanging done in Sue Hillhouse’s class in 2019, completed this spring. It was a manageable size, so I tried out hand-quilting for the first time. I had taken a class in hand quilting several years ago but was discouraged by continually sewing my fingers to the class project. However, this quilt is neither still attached to my left hand, nor is there any blood on it. Win, win! Thanks to Verna Mullet for her advice and guidance on the project.
2001 Rocky Mountain Shop Hop Entrant: Jean Hatfield Name of Quilt: 2001 Rocky Mountain Shop Hop Pattern: my own design using Shop Hop blocks Technique: Traditional piecing Touring Denver-area quilt shops with friends was such fun!
