DEDICATION We gratefully dedicate this publication to our founders and pioneers who had the vision to transform a pastime into donations for charity. Their dedication through the years first supported Boys’ Town of Italy and local charities, and is now endowing scholarships to institutions that take seriously the responsibility we share to keep our heritage alive for generations to come. To all our donors we express our gratitude for supporting us in our efforts to continue the legacy of giving so inherent in the foundation of our Italian heritage. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE President’s message A s Americans of Italian descent, members of the Italian Heritage Foundation devote our time and resources to help deserving young people receive a better education. We do this with pride, passion and the knowledge that helping others brings honor to our heritage. Through our fundraising efforts, more than one million dollars has been distributed to nearly 500 young individuals in our community! Your generous support will continue to bring a better life to our young scholars, and we thank you for the important role that you play in their lives. I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to serve with such a distinguished group of men and women who are highly regarded members of the business and professional community. I would like to commend the IHF board members for their steadfast devotion to our cause in the face of this pandemic. Despite the cancellation of our three major fundraisers, we were still able to make scholarship funds available in 2020. We look forward to better times in 2021 as we continue our commitment to helping those in need get a better education. Sincerely, Italian Heritage Jim Alesi President, Italian Heritage Foundation Foundation of Rochester Established 1962 IHF 2020 IHF 2020 Year in Review 4 5 5

Fairport, NY • 585-223-3034 • www.AncoBuilders.com Anco Builders and Casa Larga Vineyards are proud to uphold the traditions and legacy of our Italian heritage. The Colaruotolo family’s Italian roots began with the late Andrew and Antionette, affectionately known as “Mr. and Mrs. C.” Andrew Colaruotolo was born and raised in Gaeta, Italy. He came to Rochester in 1950 at the age of 19 and started working as a mason. Andrew learned to speak English at nights and also studied architecture. Antionette (Ann) grew up in an Italian-speaking home. She had to teach herself to speak English at the age of 5, a requirement before she could attend school. In 1958, they started the business that would become Anco Builders. In 1974, he planted the first vines at the top of Turk Hill Road in Fairport. Ann’s desire was to always keep her family close by and insisted that his vineyards be close to the family home. Over many years of hard labor and love, this site became known as Casa Larga Vineyards. Today, we carry on their values of hard work, quality, charity and tradition that are an integral part of our Italian-American heritage. A TRIBUTE TO OUR WORKFORCE. During this crazy political season and with the pandemic still very much with us, some people have become so frustrated, polarized and disappointed that they believe America’s best days are behind us. I don’t believe that for one moment. Throughout history, doubts about the resolve of the American people and the strength of our republic have been underestimated on many occasions. My bet is that this time will be no different. The USA has been the beacon to countless millions of immigrants and refugees in search of a better life from every corner of the globe. The simple fact is that in its 250 year history our country has elevated more people out of poverty (including me) than any country in the history of the planet. But our work is not done. In reality, the world has always been a trying and challenging neighborhood and although the U.S. arguably continues to be the best house in that neighborhood, should we rest on our laurels? Absolutely not. It’s our collective responsibility to constantly continue to fix, remodel, and upgrade this house of ours. By reflecting on this time stamp year of 2020, the time is at hand for all of us to look ourselves in the mirror and acknowledge that the status quo is not acceptable and we must do better. It’s time for all of us to double down on our commitment to respect the sanctity of every human being so that everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Indeed, all of us, in common and individually, need to take on the responsibility to contribute positively to the collective, inclusive, greater good. To that point, during this pandemic, LiDestri’s entire workforce looked themselves in the mirror, showed up, have been and continue to deliver to society’s greater good. During this pandemic they have produced emergency hand sanitizer for our community and have kept our production lines running 24/7 to help keep store shelves full. How cool is that? You are awesome! We salute you and dedicate this flagpole to you. ~ Giovanni LiDestri On behalf of the LiDestri Family, during the dedication of our new flagpole at 1000 Lee Rd.
