MAYOR’S FOREWORD
Haere mai, nau mai, ki Kāpiti
It’s exciting to be celebrating 20 years of Kāpiti’s
vibrant art scene with the launch of this year’s
Kāpiti Arts Guide, and the list of artists who’ll be
hosting visitors during Arts Trail 2020.
This year has been like no other in memory, with
COVID-19 impacting us all in so many ways and
having a significant effect on the arts sector. The
Arts Trail highlights how social connection is so
critical to the wellbeing of our communities, and how artistic expression
explores these values and connections.
To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, we have a huge range of artists
working in a diverse array of artistic media on this year’s Arts Trail, and
they are all preparing for whichever COVID-19 alert level we are at so the
arts continue to be celebrated and supported in Kāpiti
This Guide is a perennial resource for art lovers – many artists in it have
galleries and studios you can visit all year round.
Kāpiti attracts and inspires creativity, it must be the magical combination
of lifestyle, environment and the innovative people who move here. If
you’re a visitor to our district, please take the time to enjoy all Kāpiti has
to offer while you’re here – our stunning beaches,
beautiful walkways/cycleways, craft beer, thriving café scene and
numerous other attractions.
My wife Claire and I are eagerly looking forward to seeing Kāpiti artists
“at work” in their studios on our traditional Mayoral tour of the Arts Trail
if the alert levels allow, and we look forward to seeing you here.

This Guide is for use throughout the year
and during the KĀPITI ARTS TRAIL..

Please Note:
• Artists and studios are listed alphabetically (by first name or
studio name) within areas. You can flip the Guide to start at
either end of the district.
• You can also go to www.kapiticoast.govt.nz/arts-trail for more
information about artists, the locations and their accessibility,
and to see more images.
• See the KāpitiCoastNZ centrefold in this Guide for information about
places to eat and stay in Kāpiti, also www.KapitiCoastNZ.com.
• A variety of payment types are available at artist locations, except
those that list cash only.
• Please ask permission before photographing artists, their
works, or visitors.
During the Arts trail:
• The Kāpiti Arts Trail flag will be outside each location. Also, look
for signage to help find some locations.
• The indicates when artists have put aside time to
demonstrate or explain how they create their artwork. Most artists
will be happy to show you at any time, if not otherwise busy.
• An interactive Google map with artists’ locations is at
www.kapiticoast.govt.nz/arts-trail/ for reference before, during,
and after the Trail.
Health and Safety:
• Visitors participate in the Kāpiti Arts Trail at their own risk.
• Artists will provide facilities for visitors to record their details at
each site.
• Children must be supervised.
• The wheelchair logo indicates full accessibility, but many
locations may be manageable with some help.
The Kāpiti Coast District Council thanks visitors, artists and galleries
for their wonderful contribution to this event and to the year-round
arts scene on the Kāpiti Coast.

Every effort has been made to ensure the content of this Guide is
correct at the time of printing.
KĀPITI ARTS TRAIL INDEX EXHIBITIONS 4 Sometimes the photo doesn’t give the full effect of the artwork. In 2020, you can visit several venues to see examples of each Artist in Studio. We’ve called these “index exhibitions”. It’s to give you a taste of the real thing, to encourage you to visit an artist in their studio on the Trail. The works in the index exhibitions will not be for sale during the Arts Trail but will be available from the artist after the finish of the Trail. Index exhibitions are marked with on the maps.
