Dear Roger, With great respect Re: Proposal to host the 17th IRPA Congress in Auckland New Zealand Kia Ora! I am delighted to submit a proposal to host the 17th IRPA Congress in 2028 in the breathtaking City of Auckland, New Zealand. Auckland is known in Māori, its indigenous culture, as Tāmaki Makaurau, “a place desired by many”, and it’s not hard to see why. Known for its urban setting and natural beauty, Auckland Mr Brent Rogers, President is a perfect mix of two worlds. Phenomenal dining and boutique shopping and is never too far Australasian Radiation Protection from stunning scenery that includes harbours and islands, volcanic cones, native bush and both Society white and black-sand beaches. It is the gateway to rest of New Zealand, which is currently ranked as the second safest country in the world by the Global Peace index. Naturally, Māori culture remains an important part of everything Auckland has to offer. Throughout the duration of their stay, IRPA delegates will experience ‘manaakitanga’ (warm hospitality), which plays a key role in Māori society, encompassing the acts of welcoming and sharing. This is just one of the reasons Auckland was voted in the top ten friendliest cities in the world in 2017. As host to several global events in 2021, including the 36th America’s Cup and APEC Leaders’ Week, Auckland’s city centre is undergoing rapid transformation, which will create a legacy that will benefit its visitors for years to come. By 2028, your delegates will experience Auckland at its best. If successful, IRPA 17 would be hosted by one of the premier IRPA affiliate Societies, the Australasian Radiation Protection Society (ARPS), who will plan a Congress Theme around the 120th anniversary of the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to New Zealand born Ernest Rutherford for his works in the chemistry of radioactive substances. The Congress would be held in the currently under construction New Zealand International Conference Centre (NZICC) which will boast 6,674 m2 of divisible, multipurpose hall space, 1000 hotel rooms connected via an air-bridge and 2700 m2 of meeting space, configurable for up to 33 separate 3
