AISM Co-Curricular Program 2020 SEMESTER 1 2020 PROGRAM INFORMATION Our Co-Curricular Program is designed to provide students with opportunities to explore and extend themselves in Sport, Creative and Performing Arts and Personal Development activities outside of their normal timetabled classes. PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM: • While it is not compulsory, the School encourages all students from Years 1 to 12 to participate in at least one activity each semester. • Students in ELC do not participate in the program activities, but can be supervised in crèche only if an older sibling is participating in a CCA. • Students in Year 1 may do a maximum of one activity each semester. • Students in Year 2 may do a maximum of two activities each semester. • Please note that all of our swimming CCA’s, Morning CCA’s and Friday afternoon CCA’s do not count towards their maximum activity allocation. TIMING OF THE ACTIVITIES: • Most activities run from Monday to Thursday after school between 3.20 pm and 4.20 pm. • There may be a small number of activities that run outside of these times, which will mean there will be no school buses provided. Parents are therefore required to provide their own transport for these students. This includes all morning CCA’s - (7.30 - 8.30am) and Friday afternoon CCA’s. PROGRAM DATES, SELECTION & ENROLMENT: • Activities for Semester 1, 2020 will begin on Monday, 17 February- Week 5 of Term 1 & end on Friday, 19 June Term 2. • A list of all available activities for Semester 1 will be available on Engage from Friday, 24 January, 2020. This allows families to peruse offerings prior to the online selection process. • The online selection will be available from 7.00pm Wednesday, 29 January. The online selection period will close at 7.00pm Thursday, 6 February, 2020. • All enrolments must be made through the Engage Portal. No private arrangements are to be made between the external providers and the parents or students. • All activities run for a semester. • All efforts will be made to ensure that students get their first choice; however, some activities accom modate limited numbers. This will be determined by the automatic selection process on Engage with a “first come, first serve” process.
FEES & BILLING: • A cost is charged for those activities where an outside coach/instructor has been contracted to run the program, the activity is off-site or there are costs for consumable items. • The cost is charged per semester, unless stated otherwise, and is non-refundable. Students may have a 1 week trial time before electing to discontinue the CCA. Pro-rata fees may be applicable in some cases. • If your child attends the activity for longer than one week, you will be charged the full semester amount. Therefore it is imperative to formally withdraw your child from the activity if they are no longer attending. To formally withdraw your child from a CCA, you must contact the relevant CCA coordinator in person or by email. See below for contact details. • It is expected that payment of fees are settled no later than 2 weeks after invoices are sent out. • Students with outstanding fees may be asked not to attend the related activity until full payment is made. Unpaid fees may also affect future enrolment in paid activities. CRECHE & STUDENT EXPECTATIONS AFTER SCHOOL: • There will be a Crèche offered Monday to Thursday for students in ELC to Year 1 who have older siblings participating in after school activities. If you would like your younger child to attend Crèche please indicate this on the online Engage selection form. • Years 2 to 5 students who have siblings participating in after school activities may attend the Sibling Games Club. • Students are unable to be supervised by staff on the school grounds after 3.20pm unless they are involved in an organised school activity. If they are not enrolled in a CCA they must not be on school grounds, and must go home. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION & QUERIES: • Please feel free to contact the CCA team any time regarding queries or concerns. • CCA Coordinators can also support you in the selection and enrolment process. • Please advise a CCA Coordinator if your child is going to be absent for 2 or more consecutive sessions. • Up-to-date information regarding the program is communicated through the web page, daily bulletin, parent newsletter and parent E-news bulletin. Junior This CCA is for swimmers with a level Bronze below Bronze ability in Barracudas Swim Squad squad. JASS develops the whole individual by offering recognition in four key areas – regular physical activity, exploring a personal interest, working for the good of the community or the environment, and completing an outdoor activity or challenge. Attainment 3.20 - 4.20 RM 200 Year 3-7 of the various award levels will require involvement in a range of CCAs, individual projects and service to the community. Please note that while some of the activities can be accessed at school, there is an external commitment as well, that will require parent support. It is possible to complete multiple levels across the year. 2019 Students are eligible to enroll. New enrollments require approval from Ms. Reece - Head of Learning Enrichment. Story Story boxes create unique opportunities Box to revisit the storylines of a particular storybook or use imagination to create their own. It will encourage children to discuss key elements such as character and plot and to make decisions about how they create the setting. Poetry Club Students can develop their own poetry writing and reading the work of extraordinary poets across time. It is the ideal choice for students who have a passion for creative writing, who enjoy literature and would like to develop their knowledge and skills regarding poetic techniques and structure. Poetry club allows students to explore their creative potential and play with 3.20 - 4.20 Year 6-9 Free language and sounds in a supportive and free environment. They will be able to develop and hone their craft by reading different poetry styles and then experimenting themselves with these various techniques. This CCA will assist students with their English studies as it requires them to think carefully about creating layers of meaning through the construction of language, form and structure. 15

Triathlon This activity is about preparing students to compete in triathlons. Selection in this activity will be assessed on ability. This is not a learn to swim program so you must have an 3.20 - 4.20 Free Year 1-12 ability to swim repeated laps without the help of an aid. Week A will be swimming and Week B will be the run and skills work for cycling. STEM- The Young Scientist Competition offers Young students a chance to pursue an area of Scientist: passion in Science or Technology. The Technology- Wednesday CCA will focus on Innovation Technology based projects however, all 3.20 - 4.20 Free Year 6-11 and Design projects will involve scientific investigations and mathematical investigations whilst they create an innovative product. Open to all MSS students, this allows an opportunity to pursue an Independent Project even if you don't study Design and Technology as a subject. Students who join this CCA will be eligible to enter their products into The STANSW Young Scientist Awards in the 'Working Technologically' Category. International Brainbox Chess Academy (BCA) was Chess founded by a group of elite national chess players with an aim to provide quality and structures chess training to the aspiring chess community. BCA caters for different age-groups and levels, and specialises in using chess as a tool for education and mental development through fun, interactive classes.
