The Acclamation Please remain standing.

The Collect of the Day
                The Lord be with you.
                And also with you.
                Let us pray.
                Silence is kept.
Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of
your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit
of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God for ever and ever. Amen.

The First Lesson Song of Solomon 2:8-13 Please be seated.
A Reading from the Song of Solomon.
The voice of my beloved! Look, he comes, leaping upon the mountains, bounding over the hills. My
beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Look, there he stands behind our wall, gazing in at the
windows, looking through the lattice. My beloved speaks and says to me: “Arise, my love, my fair
one, and come away; for now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the
earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree
puts forth its figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one,
                and come away.”
                Silence is kept.

Psalm 45:1-2, 7-10 Said responsively by whole verse. Please remain seated.

1 My heart is stirring with a noble song; let me recite what I have fashioned for the king; *
my tongue shall be the pen of a skilled writer.
2 You are the fairest of men; *
grace flows from your lips, because God has blessed you for ever.
7 Your throne, O God, endures for ever and ever, *
                     a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom;
you love righteousness and hate iniquity.
8 Therefore God, your God, has anointed you *
with the oil of gladness above your fellows.
9 All your garments are fragrant with myrrh, aloes, and cassia, *
and the music of strings from ivory palaces makes you glad.
10 Kings' daughters stand among the ladies of the court; *
on your right hand is the queen, adorned with the gold of Ophir.

The Gospel Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23 Please stand.
The Holy Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ according to Mark.
                Glory to you, Lord Christ.

                                                              2
When the Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around
him, they noticed that some of his disciples were eating with defiled hands, that is, without
washing them. (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not eat unless they thoroughly wash their
hands, thus observing the tradition of the elders; and they do not eat anything from the market
unless they wash it; and there are also many other traditions that they observe, the washing of
cups, pots, and bronze kettles.) So the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your
disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?” He said to
them, “Isaiah prophesied rightly about you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me
with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching human
precepts as doctrines.’ You abandon the commandment of God and hold to human tradition.”
Then he called the crowd again and said to them, “Listen to me, all of you, and understand:
there is nothing outside a person that by going in can defile, but the things that come out are
what defile.” For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication,
theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly.
All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
                 The Gospel of our Savior.
                 Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Reflection Please be seated at the conclusion of the prayer. The Rev. Weezie Blanchard

The Nicene Creed Said by all, standing.
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and
                 unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with
the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from
heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our
sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he
rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right
hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom
                 will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with
the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the Prophets. We
believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the
forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
                 Amen.

The Prayers of the People Please remain standing.
Let us pray for the Church and for the world.
Grant, Almighty God, that all who confess your Name may be united in your truth, live together in
your love, and reveal your glory in the world.
                 Silence is kept.
                 Lord, in your mercy;
                 Hear our prayer.
Guide the people of this land, and of all the nations, in the ways of justice and peace; that we may
honor one another and serve the common good.
                 Silence is kept.
                 Lord, in your mercy;
                 Hear our prayer.

                                                              3
Give us all a reverence for the earth as your own creation, that we may use its resources rightly in the
service of others and to your honor and glory.
                Silence is kept.
                Lord, in your mercy;
                Hear our prayer.
Bless all whose lives are closely linked with ours, and grant that we may serve Christ in them, and
love one another as he loves us. We pray for those who are expecting children, remembering
especially Elizabeth and Rob Hearne and Stephanie and Ben Stapleton; and we pray for those who
are celebrating birthdays this week, remembering especially Avery Butler, Larson Baker, Molly
Freeman, Nancy Yeaman, and Dawn Zumbahlen.
                Silence is kept.
                Lord, in your mercy;
                Hear our prayer.
Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit; give them courage and hope in their
troubles, and bring them the joy of your salvation. We pray for those for whom our prayers have
been requested, remembering especially the victims of the violence in Afghanistan and those on our
                parish prayer list.
                Silence is kept.
We commend to your mercy all who have died, that your will for them may be fulfilled; and we pray
that we may share with all your saints in your eternal kingdom.
                Silence is kept.
Concluding Collect
Confession of Sin and Absolution
Let us confess our sins to God.
                                               Please kneel or remain standing.
God of all mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you, opposing your will in our lives.
We have denied your goodness in each other, in ourselves, and in the world you have created. We
repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done, and the evil done on our behalf. Forgive,
restore, and strengthen us through our Savior Jesus Christ, that we may abide in your love and
                serve only your will. Amen.
Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through the grace of Jesus Christ,
strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

The Peace Please stand.
The peace of Christ be always with you.
                And also with you.
The Ministers and People greet one another in the name of the Lord.
After exchanging the Peace, please be seated.

Welcome and Announcements

                                              THE HOLY COMMUNION
The Offertory
Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself for us, an offering and sacrifice to God.
                                                                                                          Ephesians 5:2
                                                               4
Having listened to the Word of God, affirmed our faith, confessed our sins, received forgiveness, and shared in
the peace, we are prepared for the drama and miracle of Holy Communion. At the offertory, we gratefully offer
back to God some of what God has given us, symbolically in the bread and wine, and in the money we give
toward the continuing work of Ascension as the Body of Christ in the world.
In addition to giving in the offering plate, you can make a gift by texting “AscensionDenver” to
73256 or visiting www.ascensiondenver.org/give. Thank you for your generosity!
Offertory ”Non troppo lento” Cesar Frank

At the Presentation Sung by all, standing. Old 100th
Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise him all creatures here below.
Praise him above ye heavenly hosts,
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

The Great Thanksgiving Eucharistic Prayer 2 Please stand.
              The Lord be with you.
              And also with you.
              Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
We praise you and we bless you, holy and gracious God, source of life abundant. From before time you
made ready the creation. Your Spirit moved over the deep and brought all things into being: sun, moon,
and stars; earth, winds, and waters; and every living thing. You made us in your image, and taught us to
walk in your ways. But we rebelled against you, and wandered far away; and yet, as a mother cares for
her children, you would not forget us. Time and again you called us to live in the fullness of your love.
And so this day we join with Saints and Angels in the chorus of praise that rings through eternity, lifting
our voices to magnify you as we sing:
Holy, holy, holy Lord Sanctus William Mathias

              Please kneel or remain standing.

                                                             5
Glory and honor and praise to you, holy and living God. To deliver us from the power of sin and
death and to reveal the riches of your grace, you looked with favor upon Mary, your willing servant,
that she might conceive and bear a son, Jesus the holy child of God. Living among us, Jesus loved us.
He broke bread with outcasts and sinners, healed the sick, and proclaimed good news to the poor.
He yearned to draw all the world to himself yet we were heedless of his call to walk in love. Then,
the time came for him to complete upon the cross the sacrifice of his life, and to be glorified by you.
On the night before he died for us, Jesus was at table with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks to
you, broke it, and gave it to them, and said: “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do
this for the remembrance of me.”
                 Bells are rung.
As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine. Again, he gave thanks to you, gave it to them,
and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you
and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
                 Bells are rung.
Now gathered at your table, O God of all creation, and remembering Christ, crucified and risen, who
was and is and is to come, we offer to you our gifts of bread and wine, and ourselves, a living s
acrifice. Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Body and Blood of Christ. Breathe
your Spirit over the whole earth and make us your new creation, the Body of Christ given for the
world you have made. In the fullness of time bring us, with the Blessed Virgin Mary and all your
saints, from every tribe and language and people and nation, to feast at the banquet prepared from
                 the foundation of the world.
Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory,
and praise, for ever and ever. AMEN.
                 Bells are rung.
And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on
earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we
forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
The Breaking of the Bread Silence is kept.
                 Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us;
Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.
The Invitation

feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.
All are welcome to receive the Sacrament. For the time being, we offer the bread alone, which is full Communion.
Please indicate if you would like to receive a gluten-free wafer.

Hymn 660 O, Master, let me walk with thee Please remain seated. Maryton

Prayer of Thanksgiving Please stand or kneel.
               Let us pray.
God of abundance, you have fed us with the bread of life and cup of salvation; you have united
us with Christ and one another; and you have made us one with all your people in heaven and on
earth. Now send us forth in the power of your Spirit, that we may proclaim your redeeming love
to the world and continue for ever in the risen life of Christ our Savior. Amen.

Support Our Mission Partners in Haiti by Donating Now
Petit Trou de Nippes, Haiti was the epicenter of the recent devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake, which was
quickly followed by destruction of Tropical Storm Grace. Through our mission partner Locally Haiti, Ascension has
a longstanding relationship with the people of St. Paul's Parish and School, the medical clinic, and more in Petit
Trou. Their need is urgent, and Locally Haiti makes sure that relief support goes directly to them. Please donate
through Locally Haiti: https://www.locallyhaiti.org/donate or Episcopal Relief and Development:

 Covid Update
We are delighted to welcome everyone to our 9 a.m. Sunday service without advance registration. Because of the
recent rapid increase in infections and hospitalizations, especially among children, our Bishop has asked us to
resume wearing masks indoors and to be mindful of distances between us. In addition to being hospitable to
all our guests, please remember that wearing masks indoors allows us to continue singing and receiving
communion. We have also recently started a simple way to signal how you would like to be greeted by wearing
 a color-coded wristband:
      • Green indicates that you are comfortable with handshakes. It is wise to refrain from hugs for the time
          being;
      • Yellow indicates that you are being cautious in proximity to others and prefer an elbow bump or fist
          bump;
      • Red indicates that you are being cautious and request that others keep at least 6 feet of distance.
We continue to open our windows, use our air purifier and exhaust fan, and offer abundant hand sanitizer. Our
service is also livestreamed at ascensiondenver.org and on our Facebook and YouTube pages. Thank you to all of
you who have been and continue to be so caring of your fellow parishioners during these unprecedented times!
Love Your Neighbor, Love Yourself with the Covid Vaccine
As the delta variant causes an increased number of Covid in Colorado, we are eager for all our parishioners who
can receive the Covid vaccine safely to be vaccinated as soon as possible. Receiving the vaccine protects you and
those around you. Find out when and where you can get vaccinated here:
