In that time colleagues and customers have raised £1.5million. The DEC brings 14 leading UK aid charities together in times of crisis. It launches appeals to raise money to help those impacted by disaster, making sure that funds reach those that need them most. The DEC responds to disasters in the world’s poorest countries, using a set of criteria to help them decide when to launch an appeal, and how they can have the greatest impact. Heathrow Cabin Crew member Brian Hubah was instrumental in coordinating with local churches and faith groups to understand what supplies were needed, and helping to ship thousands of items to the islands. “I’m so delighted that BA is helping support those affected by the eruption,” said Brian. “It makes me very proud to have played a part in making a difference and helping get those impacted back on their feet.” INDIA COVID RESPONSE In 2021 we sent two specially chartered relief flights from Heathrow to Delhi to transport life-saving supplies, fully funded in partnership with IAG Cargo. The holds of the Boeing 777’s were filled with 18 tonnes of urgent life-saving oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, respirators, and blood oxygen saturation monitors, along with care packages for families in need, donated by British Airways. We worked closely with charities including the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), Christian Aid, Airlink, BAPS, Khalsa Aid, and the High Commission of India in the UK to send these supplies. “ The British Airways family has been deeply affected by the terrible scenes in India of the deepening humanitarian crisis that has impacted the lives of many of our people. We are fortunate to be in a position to help transport aid and I am so proud of the volunteers from across the airline and IAG Cargo who have stepped up to make this happen. We continue to stand with our friends in India as the country endures one of the worst crises it has ever known.” Sean Doyle CO M M U NITIE S IN CRISI S 9
