Wellington Zoo background NEW ZEALAND’S OLDEST ZOO • NZ’s first Zoo, founded in 1906 • Not-for-Profit Charitable Trust formed 2003 • Just under 100 staff, plus volunteers, contractors and students on site • Over 500 animals in our care • ≈ 250,000 visitors per year • 365 day operation – only closed to visitors on Christmas Day.

WE WERE LOOKING FOR THE NEXT STEP FORWARD ON OUR H&S JOURNEY • Messaging to Leadership and Workers is all about Performance Improvement • Online Self-assessment was free • Repeatable process • Simple and accessible for staff • There was a clear path forward to on-site assessment to build on year-on-year progress
Report Outcomes WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF THE ONLINE SELF- ASSESSMENT AND WHERE NEXT? • Identifies the three lowest scoring questions and two questions with the biggest disparity between workers & leadership • Recommendations about next steps and where to go for more information • Can also see the overall scoring for each question in the SafePlus online survey website • Previous assessments are stored online under your organisation’s profile for future reference and if staff change
