VIP Membership Everyone age 55 and over is eligible for VIP membership at the following rates: Clermont County residents: $12 per year Out-of-county residents: $30 per year Members receive discounts for many classes and activities. If you would like to become a VIP member, please indicate it on the registration form. Memberships run from September 1 through August 31, and are full price any time of the year. Dues are not prorated. NOTE: A variety of activities are offered for free. No membership is necessary for these programs. Everyone has the right to be treated with courtesy and respect. Appropriate language and attitude will be observed at all times. Appropriate hygiene and attire are required. Participants must be cognitive and physically capable of self care and must be able to actively participate in programming. (No personal care assistance is available at the centers.) Board of health rules are observed for food safety at the centers. Participants will refrain from attending a center, if they are ill or have been exposed to a contagious illness. Participants failing to comply with these guidelines or the Customer Bill of Rights (copies are available at the registration desk) will be subject to a warning and/or suspension from center activities. 3
Clermont Senior Services, Inc. Fine Arts & Crafts Watercolor Painting This class will help both the beginner, as well as the more advanced student, in watercolor painting techniques. With each lesson, special emphasis is given to mixing paint, handling various brushes while learning multiple techniques leaning toward a finished painting. Topics include landscaping, flowers, and buildings, as well as other subjects. Jan Pastor has been painting in watercolor for over 25 years. Lifelong Learning Winter 2020 Fine Arts & Crafts Creative Quilters Enjoy the company of novice to experienced quilters. Gather each week to learn, or join in a charity or group project with fellow quilters. You may just want to bring your own project or choose to complete something from a class, it’s up to you. You may choose to bring a machine or just some hand work. Show and tell is always a welcome treat. Wednesday - Union Township 12:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Free East Fork Woodcarvers Club The East Fork Woodcarvers Club is dedicated to preserving this craft. Each month, they gather to teach, show, and learn more about this ancient art form. Anyone interested in carving or whittling a small project is invited to join them. Instruction is free; catalogs to purchase tools are available. 2nd & 4th Monday of each month Union Township 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. East Fork Woodcarvers Annual Membership $12 Crochet Create fabric from yarn…gather each week to enjoy and learn the art of crochet. Clermont Senior Services, Inc. Fine Arts & Crafts Clermont County Library Visits - Bethel Branch The Library has a lot to offer, including on-site visits to Bethel Woods. The Bethel Branch Library staff will provide participants with some type of education and/or a how to make it project. If you like to sing, come and join us at the Miami Township Center. You don’t have to have a great voice to sing with a group. You’ll enjoy singing a variety of music and spending time with others. (September through December) Please call Lori at Miami Township, 513-248-4345 and join. 1st Thursday of each month - Miami Township 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Ceramics Have fun with ready to paint ceramic pieces! Brushes and a variety of paint colors to choose from are available. Ceramic pieces are available for purchase at cost. Pieces are clean, and no firing/kiln needed. Donna Stamper will lead the class as you design a stunning Irish Green Floral arrangement for your table. This arrangement is a class favorite, so sign up now! Thursday - March 12th - Union Township 1:00 p.m. VIP $20 Guest $25 Gathering Basket -Weaving Class Instructor, Georgann Bates instructs participants in the art of basket weaving. Her instructions are easily understood and provides one on one assistance if needed. This gathering basket is not only beautiful but useful as well. You’ll make a stunning and sturdy woven basket. And be amazed at how much fun it is to weave. Enjoy pastries and coffee in the morning and a light lunch @ noon. Call to reserve your place at 947-7333. Health & Wellness SilverSneakers FLEX, Fitness Programs The award-winning SilverSneakers Fitness Program for older adults recently launched its newest fitness enhancement - SilverSneakers FLEX. It’s designed to promote exercise at venues outside of the fitness center, with instructor-led activities in community areas and senior centers. SilverSneakers FLEX was created to provide members with more location options and fitness content to meet their needs. SilverSneakers FLEX activities are led by certified fitness instructors who establish their own classes such as Strength & Balance, Cardio and Yoga Stretch. For more information, visit my.silversneakers.com. Free for SilverSneakers members, class fees vary for all others. Strength & Balance Participants use tension bands, light weights and small balls to improve mobility, strength and balance. The Instructor is certified for Senior Fitness. SilverSneakers Free. Two classes are now being offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. See times below. Tuesdays & Thursdays - Union Township 8:30 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. Cost: $6 Yoga Stretch Participants are led through a series of seated and/or standing yoga poses. Yoga improves strength, balance, posture and range of motion. Restorative breathing exercises and the final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. SilverSneakers Free. Mondays - Union Township 9:30 a.m. - 10:20 a.m. Cost: $6 Chair Yoga Yoga improves endurance, strength, flexibility, and balance. Lifelong Learning Winter 2020 Health & wellness Tai Chi: Yang Style Since his first Cane defense and Tai Chi demonstration, students have been enthusiastic and want to know more about this ancient form of exercise. David Best will lead students in the core movements of the Yang Style of Tai Chi. Movements are easy to learn, effective and safe. It increases flexibility, muscle strength and mental activity, aligns posture, improves balance and integrates the mind and body. Clinical and research studies show Tai Chi to be a safe and beneficial program for anyone with arthritis. The CDC endorses and recommends this type of exercise in their Fall Prevention programs. The classes will be ongoing weekly, and beginners are welcome Mondays - Union Township 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Donation $1 Tai Chi for Arthritis: Sun Style The Sun style of Tai Chi consist of specific movements that are easy to learn, effective and safe. Instructor Robert Becker, teaches 8 movements that increase flexibility, muscle strength and mental activity, aligns posture, improves balance and integrates the mind and body. Clinical and research studies show Tai Chi to be a safe and beneficial program for anyone with arthritis. This class is ongoing and beginners are welcome. Clermont Senior Services, Inc. Health & wellness Cane Defense - Incorporated with Tai Chi Relying on a cane was once considered a sign of an aging, weakened body. But today, some seniors are finding empowerment through their canes. They’re using them for self-defense. Instructor David Best will demonstrate self-defensive moves using a walking cane incorporated with the Tai Chi class. If you have a cane, please feel free to bring it. If not, David will have a few available for use. The classes will be ongoing weekly. Wednesdays - Union Township 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Donation $1 Christ Hospital Physical Therapy: Active Your Way (Balance) Participants will be led through a 4 part series of exercises meant to improve strength, balance, endurance, and flexibility. The class is geared to meet you at your current activity level. It will help you build endurance, strength, balance, and flexibility in a way that enables you to make exercise and physical activity part of your daily life. Second of 4 part series below, with future dates TBA. This session will focus on balance as well as how to develop your own exercise plan. Lifelong Learning Winter 2020 Health & wellness Senior Self Defense & Balance Master George S Zabrecky, 5th degree - Tae Kwon Do and Certified SilverSneaker Flex is the instructor of this new innovative class. As we get older, BALANCE is key in feeling secure with independent living. This one of a kind class adopts the best balancing techniques of Tae Kwon Do to the needs of Seniors. We focus on what you can do, not on what you can’t. In addition to improving your balance, you will develop self defenses techniques customized to you. As you progress and eventually master your self defense, you will be awarded the first ever, “Senior Self Defense” black belt. Each class will be 45 minutes in length and consists of stretching, a review of basic martial arts balancing techniques; consisting of stances, punching, kicking, blocking, and breathing. Additional topics covered: Awar eness of your sur r ounding, Defensive hand grabs and kicks and Cane and Ground defense. NO physical exercise required Classes are fun and for anyone over 50 You don’t have to be strong to be effective at self defense, you just have to practice. Clermont Senior Services, Inc. Recreation Pinochle This trick-taking game is played with a 48 card deck. Players score points by trick-taking and also by forming combinations of cards into melds. Each hand is played in three phases: bidding, melds, and tricks. Players use strategy, social skills, card counting and teamwork to master this game. New players are welcome. Bridge Club Bridge is a card game of chance and skill. Knowledge and experience are required for those wanting to play. Signing-up ahead of time is mandatory in order to organize tables of four. Lifelong Learning Winter 2020 Recreation Euchre This card game is played with a partner. Points are scored after determining a suit and trick-taking. Players use strategy, social skills, card counting and teamwork to master this game. Clermont Senior Services, Inc. Recreation Line Dancing Line dancing is an excellent way to become fit and stay fit while learning the latest line dances. No partner necessary. Follow others in unison as you focus on footwork until it becomes second nature. It’s a work-out that’s fun. Kati will do a 30 minute presentation followed by individual time for those that need one-on-one. Kati encourages you to bring your smart phone, tablet, etc. to her class. Please call the Miami Twp. You will learn practical and simple cooking techniques, including demonstration and information on tools in the kitchen that will make your cooking experience easier and more fun. During our time with Gary, he will feature a recipe and show us how to cook the dish. Participants will then get to enjoy a delicious meal. Because of preparation, registration is required one week before the scheduled class. Her diverse career in the publishing industry spans more than 15 years. The last 6 years, Jessica has gotten serious about writing her own fiction. Lifelong Learning Winter 2020 Education Smart Drive Course - AARP Since 1979, AARP Driver Safety has met the needs of older drivers through educational programs. The AARP Driver Safety course has continued to evolve with the times. The roads have changed, cars and the technology inside them have changed, even the people behind the wheel have changed. As drivers, if we don’t keep up with those changes we put others or even ourselves at risk. Participants are awarded a certificate of attendance for drivers 50 and older. Please check with your insurance company for possible discounts. You must call ahead to sign up for the class, 513-947-7333. You will need to pay the instructor upon arrival. Clermont Senior Services, Inc. Special programs/events AARP Tax Assistance AARP volunteers are on hand to process your 2019 tax returns. You must bring your social security card and drivers license. Please bring a copy of your previous year’s tax record, all applicable state and federal forms, W-2’s, 1099 and non-taxable income documents. You must have an appointment. Thursdays - Beginning February 6th - April 9th Flippin’ Flap Jacks & Maple Syrup - with the Pratts Charlie and Mary Pratt will share their knowledge on harvest and making of Maple Syrup. Mary will demonstrate the right way to pour fresh maple syrup over hot golden brown pancakes, so that you can practice this newly learned skill as well. Sausage will be served too! Lifelong Learning Winter 2020 Special programs/events Brunch for Lunch & Quarter Auction Its time for the annual quarter auction! This is not your typical quarter auction...it has a twist. We’re going to change the rules just a bit, but everyone is sure to enjoy themselves and have a chance at winning some nice prizes. You’ll start with brunch, so you can chat with friends, and check out the prizes. Everyone loves breakfast for lunch and you’ll enjoy a variety of pastries, biscuits and gravy, breakfast casserole and fruit. Friday - January 17th - Union Township 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. VIP $12 Guest $15 Love is in the Air! The Miami Township Center is excited to welcome a very talented group, The Sharonville Chorus! The group began in 1999 under the leadership of Jude Jones, who is still the music director today. Jude co-directs with Davis McKinney, their piano accompanist. Sharonville chorus will feature many love songs you’re sure to know and enjoy. Prior to the performance, lunch will be served featuring lasagna, garlic bread, salad, and dessert. Every thing green is the theme, whether you’re Irish or not, and just wish you were, come wearing your green attire. Test your luck on various games and enjoy the sounds of the “Music Makers” ! Then feast on Irish stew, biscuits, green jello and dessert. Clermont Senior Services, Inc. Provident overnight trips Mardi Gras Mystery Tour February 24, 25 2020 Please join us on our Second Annual Mardi Gras Mystery Trip! Our trip in 2019 was great fun and our travelers loved it! In 2020 we keep the same theme, but of course a different destination. In a bit of a twist we’ll include two forms of entertainment, one a musical and the other a hilarious comedy, and add in an exotic animal encounter! Great meals and beautiful scenery add to the fun! Lots of delicious “Fat Tuesday” food, a bountiful southern buffet luncheon. Don’t miss it!
