Phase 1- Retrofit Skills Market Analysis Opportunity: ▪ Low carbon jobs = less than 1% of all jobs currently in WoE ▪ To meet net zero by 2023 – 50,000+ net jobs required ▪ 29,000 direct jobs ▪ 20,500 indirect jobs ▪ 52% in construction & installation ▪ 10% manufacturing ▪ 38% ops/maintenance
Phase 2 - Green Skills Market Analysis What is a green job? WECA definition: “A job which will directly contribute towards the reduction of emissions and help to protect the environment” And/Or “will help to create the job functions, responsibilities, conditions, working practices and/or business processes which contribute towards reducing emissions, lowering the carbon footprint and protecting the environment.” ▪ 45,000 new green jobs at all skills levels & across all sectors by 2030 ▪ Low carbon services (green finance, digital, legal) ▪ Environmental consulting ▪ Engineering (nuclear, aerospace etc) ▪ Construction ▪ Low carbon electricity (solar PV, offshore, nuclear, hydropower etc) ▪ Transport (EV)

Supporting business & innovation Low Carbon Challenge Fund grants 1. Green Business Grants (£1.7m) • 150 businesses have had a Carbon Survey & Decarbonisation Report • Av saving of 10.58 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions 2. Innovative Local Energy Scheme (£1.3m) • Already funded a 150 metre wind turbine in Avonmouth • 2 further projects initiating in summer 2022 3. Innovative Housing Retrofit Scheme (£500k) • Pilot project to test innovative energy-saving improvements in 25 homes. • It will find innovative solutions for challenging properties. South West Energy Hub • Supporting public and not-for-profit organisations to set up green energy projects • Local Capacity Support, Rural Community Energy Fund (RCEF) & Low Carbon Retrofit Digital Engineering, Technology and Innovation (DETI) • Research, innovation & skills programmes • Supporting digitalisation in design & manu processes to develop sustainable products
Workforce for the Future (WftF)
Supporting homeowners and individuals Retrofit Accelerator • To provide an end-to-end offer that will encourage, support and guide homeowners • from initial thoughts about retrofit, through surveying and advice on measures to apply, and on to recommending and signposting to capable installers to carry out works • Will support a region wide marketing and awareness raising campaign. It was important to express her passion to work in this sector and the steps she had taken to try and find her way in, which had • Support with identifying been difficult as she did not come from a typical conservation background; she had grown up in training and development London and is of a BAME background. opportunities The application process was long but Future Bright was able to offer support to prepare her. She was successful and was chosen for the internship where she is developing the skills to forge a career in the conservation sector and make the sector more accessible to other under-represented groups.
Careers Hub • Vision = all young people to have skills, information and guidance to set high expectations and make well informed decisions • Working with all 95 schools and colleges • Partner with employers and providers to collaborate and better connect education to the labour market Green skills: • Green Futures Fund launched March 22 • Identify how we can use our funding to align school and college activity to the green skills agenda • Provide LMI to ensure students/parents are aware of opportunities in green jobs & relevant pathways • Engaging people currently working in the green economy to engage with schools e.g Enterprise Adviser Network and strategic cornerstone employers
