Why access to information is important in building healthy communities "Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages" UN Sustainable Development Goals https://sdgs.un.org/goals/goal3 "Ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements" UN Sustainable Development Goals https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/sdg16 "Much more in the way of opportunities such as this are badly needed. [This helps] ensure an equitable society where social policy decisions are not made in isolation from those social groups most impacted by those policies" Community Scholar

Scholar Stories & Healthy Communities: Evidence- based Planning & Programs "I was writing a proposal and hitting a brick wall... A quick search of the topic helped me focus and get past that brick wall. The library helps the unknown become known and provides specific information to break through knowledge barriers" Anonymous Community Scholar in the North "Being able to research using journals has broadened the perspectives I've been able to include in museum exhibits." Aimee Greenaway, Nanaimo Museum "Accessing true research can show us what factors have been researched as successful towards culture change, and this can promote creating an independent model that works for our site…" Vancouver Island Community Scholar
Scholar Stories & Healthy Communities: Program Evaluation "As part of my role, I am on a committee made up of experts in multiple fields of work. Sometimes, questions come up at that meeting that I will go away to research using CSP. This helps me to provide information and respond to questions from others and I am able to share useful research with them as well." Michele, Comox Valley Transition Society "I needed to dispel some myths about charging fees for services in my organizational management and I was able to find a great research article examining this topic, which I shared with the team and it helped us to make more clear decisions." Avril Paice, Family Resource Centre, Vernon, BC
Scholar Stories & Healthy Communities: Showing Impact, Winning Support "Was able to secure evidence required to complete funding applications and to support briefing notes for funding requests" Michele Hopkins, The Bridge Youth & Family Services, Kelowna, BC "The CSP has helped to change our non-profit society to one that routinely seeks out research in support of proposals we write or policies we are making. Great ideas for growth and development is an unexpected bonus from browsing your journals!" Sue, Terrace Hospice Society
The Future: Possibilities • Non-profits as the creators of content • Future Partnerships • Future benefits • To libraries (both public and academic) • To organizations • To the community
“a genuine public scholarship” “...is not simply performed for the public but… includes and is in fact given over to the publics with whom we work” From Generous Thinking, Kathleen Fitzpatrick
