Assemblymember Raul Bocanegra was present to tout the importance of the entertainment industry for California. "We represent you, and what we're hearing from our constituents is, you want a bigger and better film tax credit program," Bocanegra said. "We are going to go big, and we're not going home. When we go big, that means what? Jobs!" Bocanegra is one of the authors carrying AB 1839, which seeks to expand the tax credit in size and scope. He was joined by colleague Assemblymember Ray Bidenost (Chef Robert Motion Picture & Television Catering), Jimmy Gomez and Los Angeles Adrianna Cruz-Ocampo (U-Frame it Gallery), Pam Elyea (History for Hire), City Councilmembers Bob Doug Arseneault (VICA), Samantha Martinez (Kindel Gagan), Melissa Patack Blumenfield, Felipe Fuentes, (Motion Picture Association of America) and Helene Chemel (VICA) at Paul Koretz and Nury Martinez. VICA WEEKLY: Film/TV Industry Rallies for Tax Credit Expansion In This Issue Calendar Media Highlights Hot Issues Action Alert: Local Action Alert: State Member of the Month Organization of the Month Make Your Voice Heard at L.A. City VICA Job Opening Committee Reports Community Planning Forums Last Saturday, VICA staff attended the first Los Angeles Community Planning Forum held at the Granada Hills Recreation Center. At the open house, city staff offered one-on-one presentations and conversations on the Mobility 2035 Plan (the lead transportation planning document), re:code LA (the comprehensive re-write of the Zoning Code) and Plan for a Healthy Los Angeles (the General Plan Health & Wellness Chapter). The low-key event also allowed opportunities for both formal and informal input including public hearings and voting on city priorities. Unfortunately, due to the lack of greater business community participation, other stakeholders' priorities showed far greater support than economic development, an expedited development approval process and roadway improvements. We highly encourage VICA members to take just a few minutes to stop by these forums and help guide the discussion toward pro-business policies and prioritization of resources to the Valley. For more information, please click here. The second and final meeting in the Valley will occur Saturday, April 5 at the Marvin Braude Constituent Service Center (6262 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys) from 9 a.m. - 12 noon.
