speaker spotlight Dr. Margo Macpherson Dr. Margo Macpherson received her DVM degree in 1990 from Michigan State University. She completed a residency and Master’s degree in Equine Theriogenology at Texas A&M University followed by practice at the University of Pennsylvania and central Kentucky. Dr. Macpherson is presently a Professor in the section of Reproduction at the University of Florida. She is interested in all aspects of equine reproduction, but has a special interest in problems affecting late preg- nancy in the mare, most notably placentitis. As a Diplomate and Past President of the American College of Theriogenologists, and most recently, the American Association of Equine Practitioners, Dr. Macpherson is dedicated to advancing equine veterinary medicine and supporting equine veterinarians as they grow their own passion for the profession. Dr. Theresa L. Ollivett Dr. Ollivett is a currently a veterinary epidemiologist and board-certified large animal internist. After graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 2004, Dr. Ollivett practiced in a predominantly mixed large animal clinic in northern NY. She returned to Cornell University in 2007 and completed a residency in Large Animal Medicine between 2008-2011. In 2014, she completed her doctoral studies at the University of Guelph by validating thoracic ultrasonography as a means of diagnosing respiratory disease in dairy calves. As an assistant professor in the Food Animal Production Medicine section at the School of Veterinary Medicine at UW-Madison, Dr. Ollivett continues to advance the academic, veterinary and professional dairy industry’s awareness and understanding of thoracic ultrasonography as a means of diagnosing and monitoring cattle health and the varied impacts of interventions on dairy farms. As a member of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Asso- ciation’s Food Armor™ Committee, Dr. Ollivett assists in the development and extension of a novel hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) plan intend to promote food safety and proper drug use by dairy producers, dairy cattle veterinarians, and dairy focused veterinary students. Dr. Garret Pachtinger Dr. Garret Pachtinger, DACVECC is a board-certified veterinary specialist in emergency criti- cal care and a member of the ACVECC Board of Regents. Dr. Pachtinger graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. He then pursued an internship at the Mat- thew J Ryan Veterinary Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he has also completed an emergency fellowship and residency at the Matthew J Ryan Veterinary Hos- pital at the University of Pennsylvania. He is an Associate at the Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center in Levittown, PA, internship director and trauma center medical direc- tor. Dr. Pachtinger has been published in numerous veterinary journals, textbooks, and peer reviewed learning tools and is on the editorial board of Today’s Veterinary Practice. Dr. Pachtinger lectures throughout the world on emergency and critical care and is the Co-Founder of VETgirl, a subscription-based service offering veterinary continuing education (CE). 12
Dr. Randall C. Thomas Dr. Randy Thomas is a 1992 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University. Following graduation, he worked as a small animal practitioner for 4 years in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 1996, he began a 3-year residency in veterinary dermatology at the University of Florida. Following completion of his residency training, he passed the certifying examination and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. Dr. Thomas is currently the owner of Southeast Veterinary Dermatology & Ear Clinic, with locations in Mt. Pleasant and Greenville, South Carolina, Charlotte and Asheville, North Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Thomas’ professional interests include allergic diseases in the dog and cat, diseases of the ear, and autoimmune skin diseases. He has contributed chapters to four veterinary texts: Cancer in Dogs and Cats (Morrison WB, ed.), Small Animal Dermatology Secrets (Campbell KL, ed.), Current Veterinary Therapy XV (Bonagura J, ed.), and Current Veterinary Therapy XVI (Bonagura J, ed.) He has lectured nationally at the NAVC, WVC, AVMA, and AAHA conferences, as well as numerous regional and local conferences. Dr. Mike Willard Dr. Willard is a 1975 graduate of the Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine. He did his internship and Masters degree at Kansas State University and his internal medi- cine residency at Michigan State University. After that, Dr. Willard held faculty appointments at Michigan State University, Mississippi State University, and Texas A&M University. He is currently Senior Professor and Professor Emeritus of Small Animal Clinical Sciences and spe- cializes in gastroenterology, hepatology, pancreatology and endoscopy (flexible and rigid). Dr. Willard has extensive experience with protein-losing enteropathies and gastrointestinal problems of racing Alaskan sled dogs. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Dr. Willard has given over 3,500 hours of invited post-graduate continuing education lectures (nation- ally and internationally), has over 80 refereed publications, and has over 150 book chapters in print.
