TRANSFORMATIVE LEARNING We recognise the importance of complementing formal education with practical application, and this is reflected in the extra-curricular activities we offer. Aspiring filmmakers can approach our Filmmaker-in-Residence, a position that is periodically filled by various Southeast Asian award winning and independent filmmakers. They serve as mentors and organise skill-based workshops such as Filmmaking for Dungus, which encourage students to realise their cinematic dreams. Upon completion, many of these films will have the opportunity to be screened alongside the works of other international and domestic indie film-makers at our Nasi Bungkus Cinema events. If you are looking to get a head start in your career, you can find opportunities at our annual NGO fair, which will introduce you to Malaysian and regional NGOs working on social and political issues in Southeast Asia. Through this event, you are not only presented with the opportunity to network with experts in the field, but can also apply for internships and other learning positions that will help build your resume and develop your skills. SEE THE WORLD One of the highlights of a degree with the School of Arts and Social Sciences has been the annual study trips. These domestic and international excursions encourage you to expand your horizons by immersing yourself in new cultures, and to put your interpersonal and academic skills to the test. Some examples of past travel locations include Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, and Borneo. This year, the reinvigorated Discovering the Asia Pacific study trips will become a full credit-bearing unit.
