I Rendezvous in the heart of Germany | 2 Ilia Papandreou I am an opera singer at Erfurt Theatre and I love living in Erfurt. It has everything you could want of a city, without any of the stress - or hecticness. There are fabulous cafes and restaurants, beautiful parks and of course our sensational theatre. I'm especially fond of the old quarter with its picture-perfect lanes and its Italian-style squares. It's so peaceful and welcoming, I feel perfectly at home in Erfurt! It's time everybody realised what a gem this city is! Growing Erfurt watercress – the main crop cultivated by founder of commercial horticulture Christian Reichart has become my life's work. When I'm not working I like to explore the great outdoors or ride my bike in and around Erfurt.
3 | Katsusaburo Saburi It is my ambition to bridge the cultures between Germany, Thuringia, Erfurt and Japan. Ten years ago I founded GINKGO GmbH, a cultural association for Japanese cuisine, and I'm a technical interpreter and translator. My Japanese restaurant GINKGO is located on Pergamentergasse in the heart of the old quarter. I also take Japanese visitors on guided tours of Erfurt to help promote youth exchanges between Germany and Japan. I am hopeful that these ventures will raise the profile of this medieval city even higher, and attract lots more Japanese tourists to Erfurt. That's why the support of the Erfurt Tourism and Marketing Board is so important to me. oF The ciTy Faces oF The ciTy Faces oF The ciTy Faces oF The ciTy Faces oF The ciTy Faces oF The ciTy Maria Seifert 200 m bronze medal winner at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London My favourite spot in Erfurt has to be Domplatz square with the cathedral and the Church of St. Severus. Petersberg Citadel is : the place to go for a fantastic view of the : : square. There's always something going on there and lots of people to see, with concerts, performances, St. Martin's day celebrations or even just the market and all its stall- holders. When the sun shines, I love to sit outside an ice-cream parlour and watch the world go by.
