Portland campus closed; McMinnville campus remains open
Lin eld University’s Portland Campus will be closed to in-person activities from noon Thursday
through all of Friday because of inclement weather. This includes clinical assignments for rst- to
third-semester students. Fourth-semester students are at their volition depending on weather in their
clinical area. Portland-campus students who have online classes should plan to attend them as
usual, and students who had in-person classes should expect to hear from their faculty members
about online options. The McMinnville campus remains open at this point.

COVID-19 case update for Feb. 11
Since the last report on Feb. 8, Lin eld University has had three positive cases of COVID-19 con rmed in
its faculty, students and staff on the McMinnville campus and zero cases from the Portland campus.

Public reporting for COVID policy violations
Lin eld University encourages all of its community members to report incidents of COVID-19 policy
violations. Students, faculty and staff may submit reports through the Public Incident Report Form.
Information submitted in Public Incident Reports is con dential and is reviewed and addressed by the
appropriate o ce (Student Rights and Responsibilities, Provost or Human Resources). It takes all of us
to stop the spread of COVID-19. Thank you for helping keep our campus accountable.

New member on COVID-19 response team
Nina Tall, director of Portland Campus Operations, has joined Lin eld's COVID-19 response team. Tall
replaces Chris Adams, former director of Portland Campus Operations, who served on the committee.

New FAQ added regarding advocacy
The Oregon Alliance of Independent Colleges and Universities, in coordination with other post-
secondary education associations, continues to urge the state to prioritize faculty, staff and students in
the state's vaccine sequencing. Learn more in the new FAQ in the "Vaccines" section of the Health and
Wellness FAQ page.

New county risk level status; Lin eld policies still apply
Effective Feb. 12 through Feb. 25, Multnomah County will be in the High Risk level, while Yamhill County
remains at Extreme Risk. The next assignment of risk levels will be announced Feb. 23 and take effect
Feb. 26. Regardless of risk level category, the following remain in effect until removed by the Lin eld
University O ces of Conference and Event Planning and Environmental Health and Safety:
 All in-person, on-campus events must be approved by the O ce of Conference & Event Planning
 (as is required in normal event-planning processes) via 25Live, Lin eld’s online event scheduling
 software.

All existing COVID-19 Lin eld Temporary Policies remain in place for all campus events,
 regardless of location, capacity, or purpose. Visit the O ce of Conference & Event Planning for

 No food at indoor events.
State-wide safety measures and Lin eld Temporary Policies such as continuing to wear masks, keeping
physical distance and avoiding indoor gatherings are still key to helping to stop the spread of illness and

Portland students - reach out if you don't feel well
Portland students can refer to the COVID-19 page for up-to-date information from the university. You
should continue to use the Health Monitoring Daily Checklist and stay home if you are not feeling well
according to it. If you are not feeling well, please reach out to Student Life at pdxstudentlife@lin eld.edu
and your faculty.

Stay safe this Valentine's Day ❤ 
Valentine’s Day: A holiday revered by some, feared by many, known by all. As with any holiday during the
pandemic, it's going to look a bit different this year. Here are some tips to keep in mind.

If you’re going on a date with someone new, keep it outdoors, maintain six feet of distance from one
another and wear a mask. This way, you’ll greatly reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 to one
another. Or, keep it virtual and chat over video.

If you’re going on a date with your signi cant other, keep others safe by wearing your mask and keeping
six feet of distance from people outside of your party.

If you’re looking for things to do:
 Consider having a picnic outdoors (weather permitting).
 Ride bikes, skate, walk or snowshoe outdoors together.
 Order contactless delivery from your favorite local restaurant.
 Keep it virtual and play a Zoom-friendly game. Here are 11 you can try out right now.

The CDC also has these suggestions:
 Make Valentine cards or decorations and drop them off to loved ones.
 Celebrate with loved ones virtually.
 Prepare a special meal or dessert with those in your household.

Feb. 12 drive-thru testing event cancelled
Yamhill County Public Health's drive-thru testing at the fairgrounds is cancelled on Feb. 12. Additional
free events will be offered throughout February:
 Friday, Feb. 19 from 4-7 p.m.
 Friday, Feb. 26 from 9 a.m.- noon
All events are held at the Yamhill County Fairgrounds. Additional information can be found on the
Yamhill County Public Health website.

Virtual Lunch & Learn: COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy
VaSheeta Charles and Jazmine Bowels, nurses at Healthy Birth Initiative, will lead a discussion about
vaccine hesitancy from noon-1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15 via Zoom (Passcode: 1234). Speci cally, the
conversation will highlight vaccine hesitancy among communities in Multnomah County with historical
trauma of the American medical eld. This event is co-sponsored by the Lin eld Public Health
Association and the Lin eld Chapter (Xi Mu) of Sigma Nursing Honor Society.

Discussing racial justice in courtrooms with Oregon Supreme Court Justice
Join the Oregon Judicial Department and the Yamhill County Circuit Court to discuss how
the Court is addressing racial bias and inequities in the justice system from 5:30 - 7 p.m. on Thursday,
Feb. 18, on WebEx. Oregon Supreme Court Justice Adrienne Nelson and Access to Justice Counsel
Valerie Colas will discuss what is being done at the state level. Local judges will discuss what is being
done in Yamhill County. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. No advance registration required.

New email distribution lists for college and schools
Effective Friday, February 12, new distribution lists will be established for the College of Arts and
Sciences, School of Business and School of Nursing. You can open Lin eld’s Global Address List (the
address book icon in Outlook, or tap the “To” button in webmail) and type “all” to view the lists. Please
note that “business@lin eld.edu” will be directed to the Department of Business and not to the School
of Business. Please also note that the School of Nursing and the Portland campus are not the same:
SON lists include all nursing faculty and staff, including RN-BSN and MSN programs, and Portland
campus lists include everyone who works on the Portland campus. If you believe you are not receiving
emails sent to an academic list, contact Amy Scholer.

Open Enrollment **ACTION REQUIRED**
All bene t eligible employees MUST complete the Bene t Open Enrollment process NO LATER THAN
Feb. 26. If you do not complete the process your current bene ts will END on March 31, 2021. To review

Project management survey
Lin eld is currently performing a needs assessment for selecting a project management software
system to manage all sizes and varieties of projects. Whether you are currently using, or have an
interest/need for a project management tool for managing and tracking tasks, timelines, reporting,
calendaring, event planning, or using a system to schedule and track your own work ow, your feedback
is encouraged. Please complete this Project Management Survey by Tuesday, Feb. 16.

FY21 Editorial Style Guide available online
You've updated the Lin eld logo on your materials, now it's time to update how we write about Lin eld!
The FY21 Lin eld University Editorial Style Guide is now available on the Lin eld brand webpage. This
guide includes information on the university's use of capitalization, spellings and the highly debated
Oxford comma.

Fitness Reimbursements for Portland students

Continuing for spring semester 2021: we are opening up the tness reimbursement to all gyms, tness
studios and online workouts. Students may be able to receive up to $50 in tness reimbursements at the
end of the term. Student Life will send an email out at the end of the term asking you to ll out a form
and submit receipts. Please note that Student Life has a budget of $5,000 for the spring term. If we
exceed that amount in requests, students will receive a percentage of their request. For example, if we
receive requests for $6,000 in reimbursements, each student would get 83% of their request
(5,000/6,000).

LAB Faculty Observation Group (FOG) applications due Feb. 19
LAB's Teaching & Learning Collaborative invites all faculty to participate in the Faculty Observation
Group (FOG). Through interdisciplinary collaboration, FOG seeks to answer the question, "What can I
learn from the teaching of may amazing fellow faculty?" Participants will receive a stipend upon
successful completion of the program. To apply, contact Jenn Williams and Rachel Norman.
Applications close Feb. 19. This program is sponsored by LAB, the Writing Center, the Lacroute Initiative
and Academic Affairs.

Open Enrollment prizes
We are now almost halfway through Bene t Open Enrollment. Thank you to all of the employees who

Faculty Lecture Series presentation focuses on disability and coronavirus
This month's faculty lecture, scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 via Zoom, focuses on how the
COVID-19 pandemic has impacted disabled people and their families. Elizabeth Straus, visiting assistant
professor of nursing, leads the presentation titled “Disability and the COVID-19 pandemic." Registration
is required for the event.

What's new in education? Changes coming to the Lin eld Education Program
The Department of Education is excited to share with the Lin eld community some of the new program
tracks, endorsement opportunities and programmatic changes coming to the Teacher Education
Program in fall 2021. New programs include a Bilingual Teacher Scholars Program and special
education endorsement, as well as several course redesigns. Join the department from noon - 1 p.m. on
Tuesday, Feb. 16 for a Zoom presentation outlining some of these new and exciting changes.

Applications being accepted for this year's LAB Summit Talks
Have an idea worth sharing about "Generation Z in the service of society?" Apply to participate in LAB
Talks, a series of TEDx-style talks debuting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 22 as part of the LAB Summit. All
students, faculty and staff are welcome to apply or nominate a speaker. Speakers will receive a $100
honorarium per talk. Talks can be collaborative. Nominations should be sent to Pat Cottrell and Lindsey
Mantoan by Monday, Feb. 15. Applications should be submitted in the form of a one-minute video
describing the proposed talk (preferred) or a single-paragraph abstract by Monday, Feb. 15. Talks will be
 lmed the week of March 15. Submissions should be sent to lab@lin eld.edu.

LAB Summit Persuasive Speaking Competition
Apply to participate in the LAB Persuasive Speaking Competition at this year's LAB Summit for your
chance to in uence community discussion while winning cash prizes! The competition is at 7 p.m.
Thursday, March 25. Students will present a speech focused on the question, "What is one of the next
big problems society will be facing and what should we (Lin eld students, faculty, and staff) do now to
best prepare ourselves to deal with it?" Prizes are $250 for rst place, $100 for second place and $50 for
third place. Submit applications in the form of a 1-minute video (preferred) describing the proposed talk
or 1 paragraph abstract by Monday, March 1. To nominate somebody, send their names to Jackson
Miller by Monday, Feb. 22.
