Flowerr Baskets Flow Downtown's Most Popular Beautification Program: Over time the Business Improvement District (BID) has grown the downtown flower basket program to over 160 hanging baskets, overflowing with colorful petunias. Every spring the baskets are seeded and nurtured by a local grower, and once mature, they are hung throughout the streets of downtown Billings, signaling for many the start of Summer. The flower baskets are quite resilient, flourishing through Montana’s changing seasons and inclement weather. The BID team dedicates a significant amount of time to supporting the flower basket program each year, including a daily watering regiment of up to five hours and 150 gallons of water each day. Join Us in Our Efforts to Beautify Our Vibrant Downtown! The flower basket program is funded by the Downtown Billings Alliance through several fundraising sources, including individuals, organizations, and businesses sponsoring flower baskets and the green meter program. Did you know each time you park and pay at a green meter, a portion goes toward beautification of downtown Billings? Each basket sponsorship is $85. These sponsorships help the Downtown Billings team reach the program’s annual fundraising goal of $20,000. Basket sponsors Nowhere identifies will be listed on our BID webpage and also displayed on a tag alongside each sponsored basket and unites the throughout the summer. The Downtown Billings Alliance is cultural, economic, proud of this thriving program, bringing vibrant beauty and life to and elemental the sidewalks downtown. values of a city like If you would like to sponsor a flower basket for the summer or its downtown have questions, please visit downtownbillings.com today. 2 MAY 23, 2021 DESTINATION DOWNTOWN

HAVING IT BOTH WAYS A pair of one-way downtown streets get a two-way makeover ROB ROGERS rrogers@billingsgazette.com Billings is taking the leap this summer into multi-directional downtown traffic. The city is currently converting the flow on North 29th Street and North 30th Street downtown from one-way to two-way traffic. The project is the first piece of a potential six-part plan to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety and business access within downtown Billings. “The one we decided on as a catalyst was 29th and 30th,” said city engineer Mac Fogelsong. If the switch goes well, the city will undertake other conversions within the downtown corridor. Engineers and city planners selected 29th and 30th as their first because both streets have a lower traffic volume than others downtown, meaning it might be less disruptive. The two streets are also home to several shops and restaurants that would potentially benefit from the converted traffic flow. Work on the conversion began two weeks ago and is expected to wrap up around July 4.
