Stud Merino Breeders Association of Tasmania Inc The Stud Merino Breeders Association of Tasmania organisation was formed on 13th June 1986 by a group of Merino Stud Breeders in order to promote the Industry in Tasmania. The organisation is a member of the Australian Association of Stud Merino Breeders (AASMB) of which every registered stud in Australia must be a member via their State Association. We currently have 45 registered studs. Frank Chester of Camelford at Campbell Town is our current President and Georgina Wallace our representative to AASMB. In 2016 it was decided to conduct a multi-vendor auction to give our members the chance to show case some of the best genetics in the Country bred in Tasmania for Tasmanian Conditions. Our first sale was successful beyond anyone’s expectations and we are indebted to those who have helped us out with sponsorship to help with running costs of the sale and the Livestock Agents and Wool Brokers who have given us their unstinting support. This year is our Fifth sale with 47 rams being offered for sale. The continuing success of this sale is testimony to the Quality of the rams offered for sale. Throughout this catalogue you will see the names of the those organisations who have supported us. Please give them your support so we can all benefit from these partnerships. Details on registering a stud are available by contacting the SMBAT office on 62547198 or via email office.smbat@gmail.com

Invercarron and Invercarron Poll Invercarron Merino and Poll Merino Stud is located at Broadmarsh and was established in 2013 by Andrew Jones, the eldest son of Phillip Jones of "Sydney Cottage Merino Stud". The stud commenced on Roseville Park ewes and sire RP11/11 a $22,000 Ram which was the highest selling on property Ram in 2012. A poll stud has also been added with Roseville Park ewes and only AI was originally used through industry leading sire Yarrawonga 961 with excellent results. The stud has continued with Yarrawonga and Roseville Park sires through both AI and also stud sires purchased. In 2018 the stud purchased ewes from the Okehampton Stud dispersal with the ewes AI’d to RP12-2792 that Okehampton purchased for $25,000 and the Langdene sire purchased by Okehampton for $52,000. At least year’s sale we obtained the top price ram at the multi-vendor sale with a Langdene sire. This year we have an outstanding line up of rams, both horn and poll with all rams sired by Roseville Park and Yarranwonga bloodlines along with our own stud ewes and the Okehampton stud ewes as mentioned above. In 2019 the stud purchased a stud ram from Tara Park which will be introduced to the sale in 2021 and recently we purchased two outstanding Poll Rams from the recent Roseville Park on property Ram Sale, Our original aim was to produce nourished heavy cutting adult 18/19micron wools on robust frames and our results over recent years certainly reflect that. Sally Peak Sally Peak Merino Stud consists of 180 stud ultra fine ewes situated at Buckland. For the last 12 years all stud ewes have been set stock on semi improved and native run country without any supplement feeding. No fly treatment has been used or necessary on stud ewes and minimal inputs are used regarding animal health products. All stud ewes are classed at shearing over the board on visual appraisal and fleece weights and again at lamb marking where all dry ewes are culled. The Ram Lambs are sired by the new top price stud ram from Pomanara Merino Stud. A 15 micron, 100kg ram with a lot of attitude. Sally Peak sheep are breed to suit the Tasmania climate and topography while cutting a traditional high value ultra fine fleece and a carcass to meet today's market without high inputs. The Rams at this sale are around 11 months old. Contact: Nick Ferrar: 0419 545 046 nick.ferrar@elders.com.au Damien Whiteley (Elders) 0417 583 263 Plassey Located in the Isis valley in the Northern Midlands Plassey Merino Stud was established in 2014. The stud originated from a Glen Stuart maternal line, but has been predominately sired by Merryville bloodlines sourced from Merryville, Rockbank, Glenara and Conrayn. The aim of the stud has always been to produce traditional superfine wool rams suitable for commercial use. The two rams presented are the first to be offered for sale as the stud finally produces more quality rams than can be used on farm. Trefusis The Trefusis Merino Stud at Ross was formed in 1965 by Jim and Jo McEwan and continues today under Georgina and Hamish Wallace. In 2009 the decision was made to infuse Nerstane Genetics to improve productivity through increasing body size, fleece weight and lambing percentages. Average Ewe fleece weights have lifted to 7.0 kg plus and lambing percentages to 105% whilst maintaining an average micron of 18.0. Subsequent sires and semen have been used from Langdene, Roseville Park and Eilan Donan. It’s the stud’s policy to continually source the best genetics it possibly can to pass the benefits on to their clients. In June 2018 Trefusis purchased Ewes and a Langdene Stud Sire from the Okehampton dispersal sale. Most of these ewes were sired by a Roseville Park ram that Okehampton and Trefusis had purchased in partnership in 2014. RP12.2792 and his sons have been very influential within the stud producing very productive sheep, 4 out of the 5 winning 2018 Lionel Weatherly group at Bendigo were by this ram. The Okehampton ewes have knitted well into the stud with an Okehampton line continuing to be bred today. Trefusis commenced a Poll Stud in 2017 purchasing a PP Poll Ram from Coryule Stud, Vic and Semen from Alfoxton Stud NSW. Subsequent Sires and Semen have been purchased from Alfoxton and Nestane. Results from these purchases are very pleasing to date. Trefusis Stud strives to continually improve by benchmarking itself not only in the show ring but also in many Sire Evaluation trials around the country. Much success has been achieved over the last 10 years proving that the stud’s objectives are on the right track – breeding profitable dual purpose merinos. Sale Rams can be viewed on their website and Facebook. Enquiries and Inspections are always welcome.
