Piano Battle lets students become part of the battle; it is in their hands who will be the first to cross the finish line! They will be given the opportunity to form opinions on the different pieces and how we present them and share them during the voting procedure and the Q&A session. TALL STORIES WILDE CREATURES Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, February 3-4 & 6-7 10 am and 11:30 am PERSSON HALL Performance Length: One hour Recommended Grade Levels: 1-6 Suggested Curricula: Character Education, Language Arts, Theater An empty platform in the town square is where the statue of the Happy Prince had once stood. There will be a new statue — but of whom? Which of the townsfolk is important enough to be immortalized in stone? Hauntingly beautiful tales are told with original live music, imaginative storytelling and a dash of comedy when characters from The Devoted Friend, The Nightingale and the Rose and The Birthday of the Infanta spring to life as the town’s pompous mayor, the love-sick student, and the petulant princess all compete to become the new town statue. The audience votes on whose values deserve to be celebrated. SHESHBESH THE ARAB-JEWISH ENSEMBLE OF THE ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC Tuesday, February 4 at 10:30 am RINKER PLAYHOUSE - PEAK Series Performance Length: One hour Recommended Grade Levels: K-5 Suggested Curricula: Multicultural Studies, Music SheshBesh, an Arab-Jewish Ensemble, searching for an elusive balance of East and West in music, embodies two cultures living together in harmony. It is comprised of three members of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra alongside four of the finest musicians from Israel’s Arabic community. HEALING THROUGH THE ARTS: RESTORATIVE PRACTICES FOR ARTS EDUCATORS Saturday, September 21 from 9 am to noon WORKSHOP LEADER: DR. MARTHA BROWN FOR TEACHERS OF GRADES 3-8 Arts educators will learn how to create an emotionally safe space in their classrooms, how childhood trauma impacts behavior, and how the arts can help students heal from trauma and build their social and emotional competencies. Teachers will consider how social justice-oriented projects build students’ capacity to act as change agents in their schools and communities. Attendees will participate in a circle, a restorative practice used to build community, nurture relationships, and transform conflict. Teachers are encouraged to bring a non- breakable, holdable object with personal meaning to use as a Talking Piece. ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS: BUILDING ACADEMIC VOCABULARY IN SOCIAL STUDIES THROUGH CREATIVE MOVEMENT* Friday, October 18 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am WORKSHOP LEADER: LORENA CERVANTES FOR CLASSROOM TEACHERS AND ELL SPECIALISTS OF GRADES 2–5 All students benefit from learning through multiple modalities— seeing, hearing, moving, and interpersonal interaction. In this fascinating workshop, learn ways to guide movement explorations in which ELL students authentically interact with and internalize academic vocabulary. In this workshop, participants learn how to guide young authors as they use storyboards to organize their stories into a series of pictorial scenes. They then direct their classmates in photo shoots to create digital picture albums they can reference as they write. Participants should bring their tablet or a laptop and camera for this exciting hands-on workshop! DISNEY MUSICALS IN SCHOOLS Thursday, April 9 at 6 pm DREYFOOS HALL The Kravis Center is proud to continue this education initiative in affiliation with Disney kravis center for the Theatrical Group called Disney Musicals in Schools. The main goal of the initiative is to performing arts west palm beach create sustainable musical theater programs in under-resourced public elementary schools by providing schools with the training and tools necessary to do so, and by creating a space for the community to share their students’ success. Up to four schools will receive a 17-week musical theater residency that culminates in a 30-minute Disney KIDS Musical at each school. Working with professional teaching artists, a team of faculty from the school will build skills necessary to produce a musical theater performance featuring students in grades 3-5. Through this process, students develop self-confidence, practice collaboration and strengthen speaking and reading skills while learning musical theater techniques. 19

The students receive workshop training to prepare them to write theater reviews and have the opportunity to meet with and hear from our local theater critics. Each student will receive a complimentary press ticket for the opening night performance of a designated Kravis On Broadway show and will then submit a review for publication in his or her school newspaper.
