How to Sell the Scout Savers Coupon Card
Scouts, Units, and Families have two ways they can sell the Coupon Card:
1. Online Sales, and
2. Store Front Sales.

Online Sales:

Online sales are the easiest way to sell the Scout Saver Coupon Card.

Scouts, Scout Families, and Unit Leaders are encouraged to contact their network of friends,
family members, co-workers, corporations, and everyone they know, to buy the Coupon
Card. The savings are tremendous, and everyone can benefit from this years’ Coupon Card.

Below is a list of the people you should contact:
• Mom,
• Dad,
• Grandparents,
• Siblings, especially if they are in college,
• Neighbors,
• Friends and family—anywhere in the USA,
• School friends and parents,
• Teachers,
• Book Clubs and other volunteer organizations,
• Co-Workers,
• Employer—sell the cards at the office, or ask the boss to buy the cards for the employees
(makes a great thank you gift!),
• Aunts, Uncles, Religious Organizations,
• Buy for birthday and thank you gifts,
• The list is endless!

5 Easy Steps to Online Selling:
1. Make a list of everyone you know, including their email address and phone number.
2. Pull the Online/Mobile App flyer from the Training and Resources section of the SSCC
website; it has all the information about the Scout Savers Coupon Card and how to buy it.
3. Enter your Unit Information, Scout Family Last Name, and personal message in the
fillable section of the flyer and save it.
4. Send an email or text to everyone on your list and attached the flyer you saved in step 3.
5. Repeat

The Scout Savers Coupon Card has the potential to save people hundreds, even thousands
of dollars. Do a Good Turn Daily, and show people how to save money.

Online orders have free Shipping and Handling and will be mailed by the BAC. Additionally,
there are no Credit Card Fees charged to the buyer.

Please be mindful of our Youth Protection Guidelines. Scouts who send
information to an adult must copy another adult on the message.
                                          3
StoreFront Sales:

Unit members contact stores (in your area) to sell the coupon cards in front of their store.
Pick stores that have a lot of foot traffic. Schedule your storefront dates for late-February
through June 2021.

Below is a list of some of the organizations that make good StoreFront Partners:
• All Grocery Stores,
• Home Depot,
• Lowes,
• Garden Centers,
• Charter Partner Schools, Churches (all our Charter Partners)
• Sporting Good Stores,
• Restaurants,

Note: The StoreFront Partners mentioned above support Scouting. Contact as many as
possible. Many of them have coupons on the Online/Mobile App, including Safeway!

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines:

Your unit committee must develop a COVID-19 safety plan and share it with your Chartered
Organization to receive further guidance and permission to meet in-person. Your Chartered
Organization may have a policy and requirements on meetings and public outings. We advise
you to communicate this plan to each of your Scouting families.

Units must follow the safety guidelines outlined in the “COVID-19 Safety Guidelines
for StoreFront Sales” in the Training and Resources section of the SSCC website.

8 Easy Steps to Scheduling StoreFront Sales:
1. Make a list of the local stores in your area with a lot of foot traffic.
2. Contact the Store Managers and ask them if they will support their local Scouts by
agreeing to a StoreFront Sale.
3. Inform the Store Manager that the Coupon Card will benefit their customers by saving
them money.
4. Inform the Store Manager how COVID-19 impacted your unit and how this fundraiser will
help Scouts.
5. Inform the Store Manager that their store is on the Physical Card or Online/Mobile App
(please check in advance.)
6. Be prepared to inform the Store Manager of our Safety Guidelines for StoreFront Sales
and give them a copy of the document (mentioned above.)
7. Schedule dates.
8. Schedule your Scouters on the dates of your sales.

                                                4
StoreFront Sales:

Below is a list of some of tips for a successful StoreFront Sale:
1. Stores support Scouts and our Mission, NOT what we are selling, so go to as many stores
with high foot traffic (Safeway, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.
2. Set up Sign Up Genius for your StoreFront Sales and email to families so they can
    signup.
3. Only have 2 Scouts and Parents at a StoreFront Sale
4. Let Shifts know they need to bring change
5. Give every Shift an envelope to record Date & Time, Scout’s Names, # cards at beginning
of Shift, and cards sold and donated. Put $$ in envelop
6. Print Sign Up Genius and check envelopes received against sign up list o ensure you
    have collected from everyone
7. Record sales on a spreadsheet and provide to Troop Treasurer weekly
8. Ask everyone! People won’t buy unless you ask them.
9. Practice your Sales Approach “Would you like to save $ when you shop?” “Would you
help our Pack/Troop get to Camp this year?” “Would you like to donate a Coupon Card to
    a First Responder?”
10. Always ask the buy if they would like to buy another card and donate it to a First
    Responder
11. Speak clearly and use eye contact
12. Don’t crowd customers—only one Scout needs to assist a customer at a time
13. Be polite
14. Thank everyone, even if they don’t buy a card
15. Wipe down the cards before handing them to the customer and give them instructions for
downloading the app. Or, you can assist them on the spot.

Things to Bring to Your StoreFront Sale:
1. A Credit Card Reader
2. A computer to show the Online App, or a mobile phone to show customers the mobile app
3. Posters (Follow Social Distancing)
4. BOGO flyer and plexiglass stand
5. Instructions on how to download the Mobile App
6. Table and Chairs
7. Hand Sanitizer
8. Masks and extra masks
9. Gloves
10. CHECK THE COVID SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR MORE INFORMATION

SCHEDULE YOUR UNIT CAMP CARD KICK-OFF/TRAINING

Objective For Your Unit Kick-Off Training:
• Get Scouts excited about camping
• Ensure parents are informed about why their Scout should attend camp

Ensuring a Successful Unit Kick-Off:
• Make sure the Kick-Off has maximum attendance
• Be prepared to discuss summer camping opportunities in the Baltimore Area Council
• Make sure every Scout receives a packet of 20 Camp Cards

Sample Kick-Off Agenda:
1. Grand Opening with music, cheers and EXCITEMENT
2. Ensure each Scout signs out at least one packet of 20 Camp Cards
3. Explain Commission and Incentives.
4. Review summertime camping opportunities in the Baltimore Area Council (Cub Day
Camps, Scouts BSA Resident Camps, Cub Scout Resident Camp)
5. Review Goals and Key Dates
6. Scout Training - Role Play
7. Cover safety and courtesy tips
8. Big Finish. Send Scouts and parents home EXCITED to sell
9. Identify top 20 customer prospects for each Scout

REMEMBER, WE’RE SELLING SCOUTING, NOT JUST DISCOUNT CARDS
Ensure your families understand they are selling character, they are selling better community,
and they are selling the benefits of Scouting. Emphasize that each card sold helps a Scout go
to camp. The reason our sale will be successful is that people want to support Scouting.

FOR A SUCCESSFUL SALE, ENSURE YOUR SCOUTS:
• Wear a Scout Uniform, smile, and say their first name.
• Tell the customer their unit number.
• Tell the customer how much THEY can save with a Scout Savers Coupon Card.
• Tell the customer how the Scouts are going to use the money.
• Close the sale, and always say Thank You!

RETURN POLICY
Scout Savers Coupon Cards may be turned to the council office without penalty until July 9,
2021. The cards must be in new condition, including snap-offs still attached.

Bulk purchases are not refundable or returnable.

Units are responsible for any cards that are lost, stolen, misplaced, or damaged.
Scouts and parents should treat the cards like a $5 dollar bill.

                                              8
SUPPLEMENTAL ORDERS

The council will order Camp Cards based on the Unit Commitment Forms. A few extra cards
will be ordered. While supplies last, additional cards may be requested through your District
Executive/Director or at the Council Office.

Set a Unit sales goal!

Parents will support this program if there is a clear, concise goal and reason (i.e. Summer
Camp, Day Camp, Equipment, Trailer, Pinewood Derby Track, etc.).

A unit should establish a unit goal and then develop a per Scout expectation. Think in terms
of 67 Camp Cards (Cub Scout Resident Camp) or 125 Camp Cards (Scouts BSA Summer
Camp), minimum. Encourage every Scout to earn his or her way to camp. At a minimum,
Scouts can pay for their registration fee by selling only 25 Camp Cards.

Scouts should coordinate sales times using a poster in front of high traffic areas (stores,
banks, churches). Please check with your District Chair for information.

Conduct an ENTHUSIASTIC Kick-off! A boring and dreary sales pitch to the Scouts and
Families will result in boring and dreary commissions! Dream BIG! Small dreams have no
magic! Be VERY clear with parents as to how the money earned will be used for the Scouts.
This is especially important if it is to be used for anything other than camp!!!

Create a sense of urgency! People react to deadlines. “We would like to have our campaign
wrapped up by next week.” If given three months to sell, families will take three months to sell,
and sell everything the last week anyway.

Control your inventory! You will also want the flexibility to provide additional cards to Scouts
who are selling their Camp Cards quickly. Trying to collect unsold cards from Scouts in an
effort to redistribute them is very time-consuming.

Encourage and promote the Online Sales. This is the easiest way to sell the Scout Saver
Coupon Card. Coupons are accessible in all 50 States!

                                                9
Unit Incentives

Units that sell 500 Scout Saver Coupon Cards throughout the sale will receive a $50 gift
card to the Scout Shop. This offer is cumulative; for example:
• Sell 500 Cards, unit receives a $50 gift card to the Scout Shop
• Sell 1,000 Cards, unit receives an additional $50 gift card to the Scout Shop
• Sell 1,500 Camp Cards, unit receives a total of $150 in gift cards (and so on.)

The value of selling Scout Saver Coupon Cards:
(Listed below are the approximate costs of each of these items)

  New Uniform - $100 = 40 cards New Tent - $150 = 60 cards
Cub Scout Resident Camp - $200 = 80 cards (67 using Camp Commission)
Scouts BSA Resident Camp - $375 = 150 cards (125 using Camp Commission)
                        High Adventure Base - $1,400 = 560 cards

More Incentives Planned for Top-Selling Units and Scouts!
