Each scholarship has an application, unless otherwise noted. It will be either a common application (1) or a specific application (2). Specific applications will only be available on Naviance and can be accessed until Friday, March 5, 2021. Students are responsible for mailing (postmarked by) or delivering completed applications to scholarship donors by Saturday, March 6th. If you are a Southington resident but attend a private, technical or magnet school, you will need to contact SHS for specific applications. A list of the local scholarships are available at http://www.southingtonschools.org/schools/high-school/southington-high . STUDENT DIRECTIONS FOR APPLYING FOR LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS Southington High School makes available Local Scholarships eligible to Southington students and awarded at the Scholarship Awards Program in May. • Go through this Local Scholarship listing and identify all that you qualify for. • Complete the common application for scholarships requiring it, leaving the name of the scholarship blank (you will fill this in after making the proper number of copies for all those scholarships you are applying which require the common application). • For scholarships that require a specific application, log into “Naviance Family Connection” If you are a Southington resident but attend a private, technical or magnet school, you will need to contact SHS for specific applications. • In Naviance under the “Colleges” tab, scroll down to the “Scholarships and Money” section and click on “Scholarship List”. • To review these scholarships, access the pull down menu next to “browse by category” and click “Local Scholarships”. These local scholarships are noted with an asterisk, beginning with “LOCAL” as well as being in all upper case letters. View these scholarships carefully. Only apply for those scholarships for which you qualify. For instance, if your career choice is nursing, then you should not be applying for scholarships designed for students who want to be computer programmers. Most scholarships require the common application, unless otherwise specified. Specific applications that are required can be found on Naviance. Follow directions! Applications must be neat and legible. You must provide all requested information. Not following directions may cost you a scholarship! Before you submit your applications for consideration, it is the applicant’s responsibility to request a copy of your transcript via the Scholarship Transcript Request Form. You can choose to pick it up from the Student Support Center or have it emailed to your SHS school email address. Submit your request early as processing may not be completed until the last week of February. You are responsible for making copies and attaching one to each of your applications. When using the Common Application you may choose to complete one copy, add the transcript and then make copies. Do not fill in scholarship name before making your copies. After copying, you will then put name of scholarship on each application. Staple all materials for each application. All applications must be completed and mailed (postmarked) or delivered to sponsoring organization by Saturday, March 6th. Addresses of each scholarship’s contact person/organization are indicated in this listing. Applications going to staff members at SHS should be stapled and mailed or dropped off in the main office with the contact person’s name written on each. Access to the local scholarship listing & common application will only be available online through Friday, March 5, 2021.
