HINTS FOR EXHIBITORS
We would like to encourage many more people to exhibit. It does not
require great expertise or special knowledge. We have all had to start
somewhere!

NOTE: If you make something that you sell i.e. cakes, clothes, painting,
Jewellery etc, then you can not enter that class, however, you can enter
anything else in the show.

For more information and tips on entering then please see the flower
show page on the village website www.thesombornes.org.uk Or, our
Facebook page, by going to Facebook and typing in ‘Kings Somborne
Flower Show’.

The single most important rule is to READ THE SCHEDULE. Make sure
that your exhibit is not classed as NAS (Not according to the Schedule).
Try to make your exhibit look as attractive as possible.

Evenness, freshness and freedom from disease are more important than
size, unless stated.

EXHIBITORS MUST COLLECT THEIR ENTRY CARDS BEFORE 8PM ON THE
WEDNESDAY BEFORE THE SHOW. Cards can be collected from any of
the people listed on the entry form or Wednesday evening between
6.30pm and 8.00pm at the village hall.

Before Judging, the stewards will make sure that all the entry cards are
turned over, so that the Exhibitor’s name is not visible. After judging, the
cards will be placed face upwards.

All exhibits, whether they win a prize or not, go to make up the Show.

                                     3

PROJECT LINUS UK
Project Linus is an international charity which donates blankets to
premature babies and sick children up to their teens. The name comes
from the Peanuts character, Linus, who was inseparable from his blanket
through thick and thin.

We have been asked to provide blankets for the premature baby unit in
Southampton and so they need to be small: approximately 20inches by
20 inches. We want to be sure that tiny fingers and toes do not get
caught in the fabric and so please avoid open lacy patterns with holes
and avoid hard ridges. It is best to use an ordinary yarn and please do
not embellish the blanket with buttons and bows etc. And bright
colours do much to enliven the sterile environment of the medical unit.

You can find more details of Project Linus on their website:
www.projectlinusuk.org.uk
If you would like inspiration for a pattern then there is a section on their
website you can go directly to: www.projectlinusuk.org.uk./patterns-
and-tutorials
As a guideline, 120 stitches with old size 8 or 4mm needles is
approximately 20 inches but this could vary according to the pattern you
use or your individual tension and if you choose to use different needles
or wool.
Last year we had some lovely blankets which the unit was delighted with
so please get knitting so that we can do a very small bit in supporting the
parents of the sick babies through a very difficult time and to support
the unit where dedicated staff do their best for their tiny patients.
