The Tigers were left shattered after a 51-12 loss to eventual premiers UQ in last year’s minor semi-final and will be out for revenge against the Students at Ballymore this Saturday. THE INSIDE WORD – Ben Mowen “It’s been a really rewarding year, but the target has never been to get a minor premiership, it’s always been to get the full premiership. “It’s a pretty special time of year to be involved, but we’ve got our eyes firmly on the task ahead. “It was disappointing last year for us to finish in the semi-final with a really poor performance. “I wasn’t fortunate enough to qualify last year, so I spent the day running water and we had a lot of time under our posts to reflect on how we should improve. 13

Mick Heenan has remained a constant alongside the new faces, with the head coach winning his first Premiership with the club back in 2010 over the Stingrays – will we see him add to his impressive tally again in 2020? The side will also welcome back Reds trio Angus Scott- Young, Jock Campbell and Josh Nasser, who will be crucial against the Tigers, especially in the battle of the forward packs. No side has won back-to-back premiership since the Canberra Vikings in 2003, but the Heavies are out to change that this year. THE INSIDE WORD – Pat Morrey “One of the benefits we’ve had this year is we’ve had a lot of new guys in the team, whether they’re from different clubs or are young blokes playing their first year of Premier Grade. “We’ve got quite a different team from last year so there’s a lot of hunger, not giving no credit to the guys who were there last year as well but going in with a different team is an advantage because there is the hunger there to succeed. “For guys like myself, the opportunity to go back-to-back is a really big goal. “We obviously tried to do it in 2017 but Jeeps pipped us in the Grand Final, so we know how tough it’s going to be and we’ve been preparing really well and are up for the challenge. “It’s my fifth-year underneath Heeno and not much has changed in terms of the game plan, but he acknowledges how different each group of players is and that changes every year. “The core principles and the core values of the team remain the same, blue collar work ethic, if we have to we’re going to grind a game out and playing for each other.” 15

How we’re helping Indigenous kids to chase their dreams Our Future Indigenous Leaders Program started in 2013 and encourages students in Cherbourg and Woorabinda to stay in school, seek employment or further training to help them become a leader in their community. We want to support talented Indigenous students to reach their full potential. It’s thanks to the achievements and commitment of these students, and their communities, that the program is seeing more and more students chase their dreams. riotinto.com
